I found a beautiful short (but not real short) cocktail-type dress today for my outdoor garden wedding this summer. At this dress salon, they show you a pallat of swatches with at least 2 dozen dress colors to choose from. I had the idea in my head that I would choose a dress that's white or ivory b/c that's a bridal color.
As it turns out, I look terrible in white, so white is out. I look better in ivory, but not great. But I look really good in a very pale dusty rose type color. My mother, two store employees, and another customer all think I should definitely go with the pale dusty rose. And looking better in it is a big plus. But if I go with the pale rose, I lose my "special bridal color." Any thought on which color to go with (ivory or pale dusty rose)?

Hi and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
I look terrible in white, ivory, yellow, etc. also, so I know what you are talking about. If I was getting married now, especially for a second marriage, I would definitely go with the dusty rose. Who cares? Everyone will know that YOU are the bride. Many on here are doing a color for their first wedding! I also think that the color of your dress will look great with the venue you have chosen. An outdoor garden....it sounds beautiful! I vote with your mom and the store employees....go with the color that looks good on you.

Ivory colored wedding dress?

So, I started looking at wedding dresses a few weeks ago. I narrowed it down to 3 dresses (I love all 3). They all come in white or ivory. The 3 sample dresses at the store that I tried on are all ivory. I love the color but my mom thinks that ivory is more of a 2nd marriage dress. What do you think?
I'm very tan - would pure white look better on me? Or ivory? The ivory looks white, it's just a little off-white. Know what I mean?
Answer
please, your mom is thinking like it's the 1950's still. welcome to the 21st century, where virgin brides are way outnumbered by the more sensible group of us who have tried the sausage before buying the pig. catch my drift? the color of the dress is meaningless because non virgins wear white all the time! pick the shade that looks best on you, period.
