I am getting remarried this spring. My wedding dress is off-white. My after wedding dress is lime green and light purple. What color eyeshadow/blush should I wear that will compliment both outfits?
I have hazel eyes olive skin and brownish red hair. I want to stay away from brown eye shadows because they tend to make my eyes look blah.

Answer
A light purple

Do you have to have a white wedding dress?

Hannah

I find white impossible to keep clean and I want my dress to be another color.Once I wear something white a stain gets on it really soon. Can you have a wedding dress of any color? I am also having a registry office wedding so what dress could i wear? I want my dress to be beautiful.

Answer
It's your wedding, do what you want!
But I don't think the dark ones would be great options. I thin Ice Blue, fresh green and yellow are also great colors. Or paste pink. You could choose a dress according to your wedding theme.
And Congratulations!

with a maximum of 100 guests, the lesser the better, and we are looking at a budget from US$4,000 - US$5,000.

how good that will be? in the philippines.
i'm the first to get married in the family, so i'm kinda stressed out, huhu, im far from home so im planning alone.
thanks guys for all the answers, they are very helpful.

chattemm, thanks so much...

Answer
First off, congratulations! Your budget converts to 164,000 pesos to 205,000 pesos. This sounds like a lot of money, but believe me, if you're planning on a wedding in Manila, it can get quite expensive. I was canvassing around for prices on the various things I would need for my own wedding, and I'll try to give you some suggestions along with the prices of things that I found.

First major item is the venue. I am guessing you're a Catholic and most likely would want to have your wedding at the church. However, I would suggest doing the ceremony at the venue of the reception. Like with my wedding, I was looking for a garden wedding venue. The best place I was able to find that was reasonably priced was Gazebo Royale in Quezon City. They have a choice of three pavilions for small, medium to large gatherings. Their largest pavilion can hold around 200+ guests. But since you're looking at 100 or less, the medium sized one will be good for you. I asked about the largest one and it was priced at 10,000+ pesos. They work with caterers ranging from affordable but good to very fancy and pricey. I would suggest going with Hizon's catering for the affordable choice, while I would recommend Auffrance for the pricier choice. I was able to taste both and their food is both delicious. Hizon's has a wedding buffet choice that starts at 150 pesos/head, while Auffrance starts at almost 200 pesos/head. One thing you might want to consider with Hizon's is that they offer a total wedding package that ties in with Gazebo Royale, so that will take care of the cost for both the food and the venue. Also, these venues offer amenities like the bridal car, wedding cake, mobile/dj that they include in their packages. This way, you won't have to worry about getting and spending extra for these things since they will be included in the price of the venue package.

Second important item(s) are the wedding gown and gowns for the entourage. There are coutouriers that offer packages that include making the gowns for the bride, maid of honor, and mother of the bride. Unfortunately, these cost in the hundreds thousands, as I found out. As an alternative, you might want to look for a good modiste who can make your gown as per your design preference. Then for everyone else, you can shop around for ready made gowns at the malls and you can just subsidize the cost of buying one. There was one boutique in Glorietta that had gowns starting at 1,500+ pesos.

For the invitations, you could try to do it homestyle and make your own. With all the different kinds of papers, ribbons, accents, etc that you can find nowadays, and with just a good printer, all you'll need is your creativity to make a really good invitation. I think the advantage here is also your chance to really personalize your invitation. With this option, I'm estimating that you will spend around the neighborhood of 3,000 to 5,000 pesos depending on where you will source your materials. Divisoria and Quiapo are good areas to shop around at for ribbons, accents and such. If you still want to get a printer to do it for you, there's this little shop in glorietta (I just forget the name at the moment) where I saw a particular design that cost 98 pesos per invitation. They have lots of designs and motifs to choose from and some are around 80 pesos per invitation. So that could mean from 8,000 to 9,800 pesos if you will send out 100 invitations.

Flowers for the bridal bouquet, the entourage, the groom and the venue(s - if you decide to have the ceremony at the church and the reception somewhere else) are another item to consider. For flowers, I would suggest working with a good flower designer and buying your flowers from the flower market at Dangwa. This way you get to choose exactly what flowers you want to include in your floral arrangements and bouquets. You will also get them for a cheaper price since flowers here are sold by bulk. If you decide to hold the ceremony at the reception venue, you can also just focus on spending for your bridal bouquet and for those of the entourage because the venue will include floral arrangements, plus the caterer will provide centerpieces for the tables during the reception.

A photographer and studio that will subsequently do your wedding album is another important item. There are of course many studios and photographers offering packages that include video coverage. I saw a range of packages starting at 10,000 pesos to as much as 25,000 pesos. The one I liked best was a studio in Marikina called Smart Shot Studios. They had one of the 10,000 pesos packages and I loved the style of the photography that they do. I found their albums very slick and professional looking as well.

Another item you may need to consider is the make up artist you will use for yourself, and perhaps your entourage as well. At the wedding fair at SM megamall a couple of years ago I got brochures from make up artists that ranged from 1,500+ pesos to almost 3,000 pesos. I didn't make any appointments for trials at the time since it wasn't one of the items on my priority list. An alternative to this is if you have a parlor or salon that you go to where you've had your hair and make up done before. They'll surely be cheaper, just make sure they do a good job by doing a trial with them.

Lastly, there's the wedding tokens to be given away to the guests. There are a lot of choices for this, and again, if you are of the creative type, you can actually make your own tokens. This will be cheaper as well. If not, your choices can be personalized cd's containing the couple's favorite songs (can be 30 pesos/cd), small box of cookies, small box of chocolates, clocks, etc, etc. An estimate of what it will cost, for 100 tokens, can be from 3,000 to 10,000. Again, it depends on what you will choose to get.

This probably doesn't cover everything yet. And with prices in the Philippines rising everyday, your estimated budget might end up coster a few thousand pesos more. I myself budgeted my wedding at around almost 400,000 pesos. But then, we were expecting around 300 guests maximum. Anyway, I hope this helps, and if you would like more help just email me and I'd be happy to do what I can. I have a portfolio with me containing the different suppliers I canvassed, and I'd be happy to share them with you. It's very stressful to plan a wedding especially if you're doing it by yourself, but it can be a lot of fun too.

HOW MUCH DOES A CIVIL WEDDING COST HERE IN PHILIPPINES?

dee-coy

my boyfriend and i are planning to get married in civil, and we are planning to do it in manila,is it possible? we lived in quezon province. and what are the requirements?
hey iscikedelic,

you mean i need to be 24 years old?
what about my bf? he's only 21 y/o so we need a parent's consent?
ohhh. that's sad, because we don't want our parents to know that we're gonna get married.

any help?

Answer
Hi,
I live in Quezon Province (Lucena City) and we got married 2007 through a civil wedding ceremony done in Mayor's office.
We spent less than 500 (five hundred) pesos for wedding license and everything else for the paperwork.
For the reception, it's all up to you.
Also, I did not wear any wedding gown so you can save bucks for that.

Before applying for the marriage license secure a:
NSO authenticated birth certificate (original and xerox copies) for you and your husband (if he is a foreigner he doesn't need to).
CENOMAR or Certificate of Non Marriage (you can get from NSO office as well)

Also you need your parent's consent if you are below 24 years old and your husbands' (if a foreigner, doesn't need to).

Goodluck, send me a message if you need any other info.

ADD: You can get married if you're 18 years old but you need parents' (either of your parent or guardian) consent to get your marriage license approved if you are below 24.
If he's 21, and a Filipino then he also will need a signed consent from his parent(s) or guardian.
It's not necessarily your parents will appear in the wedding ceremony as long as they will be able to signed the marriage license.
Marriage license process is 10 days from the day you apply so you shall wait for 10 business days so that you can proceed to wedding ceremony. It can be done in Mayor's office or you can hire a judge.

Hi everyone! Just wondering if you could let me know how big your wedding was and how much it all cost? If you could break down how much everything was that would be great. Also what state you live in and was your wedding outdoor, indoor, in your backyard etc. Thank you :o) ! Have a nice day!

Answer
These numbers are based on our budget, so our final guest count will probably come down from our budget of figuring all invited will show.

We are located in PA and having a pretty standard church wedding with reception at a nearby catering facility. Our budget is $20k and we are tracking at $19k now and expect to come in a little under that:

Ceremony: $900 (includes officiant, church fee, license, ring pillows)
Reception: $12,000 (includes food & open bar for 190, centerpieces, cake, 20% gratuity tacked on by venue, centerpieces, favors)
DJ: $700
Flowers: $700
Attire: $2,400 (this includes wedding gown, 4 bridesmaid dresses, 3 flowergirl dresses, 5 groom + groomsmen tuxedos, 2 ring bearer attire - - we are paying for our wedding party)
Photography: $1,100
Stationary: $600 (includes engagement announcements, save the date cards, invites plus all postage)
Rehearsal Dinner: $600

What are some cute dresses for a wedding?

joshnshel

My fiance and I will be getting married relatively soon. I was just wondering what are some cute wedding dresses that are on the cheaper side, like $100 and under. I like the more modern clothing style, and it DOESN'T have to be white. Just NO red.

Any links/suggestions?

Thanks!

Answer
Yayayayay!! It a while, but I think I found the same exact dress. I've only found it online. But with a little more research, I'm sure you can find it off line as well if you want. Here are two websites I found it on:
http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/23108358/WHOLESALE_IMPORTED_WEDDING_GOWN.html (scroll all the way down)

http://www.bridaldresswholesale.com/bestsale2.html (3rd one down, right column)

By the way, a helpful tidbit for finding it off line is by using the dress number: wswd066. Every dress has its own unique number, like a SSN.

This color combination for a wedding.?

partygirl

My fiance really likes the color of peridot green and I just love the color of Amethsyt. We were thinking about using these as our wedding colors. But somebody told me that they would look horrendous together. Is this true and what do you think about this color combo.
Plus any ideas on how I could possibly use these colors in the wedding party and reception hall.

Answer
I think the colors look great together. I am considering a very similar color palette. Try Googling "purple and green wedding" and look at Google images and see what comes up.

Here are some pictures that I have bookmarked:

I think it'd be lovely to have the bridesmaids in purple carrying either mostly green flowers but maybe with a hint of purple and maybe a hint berry. Although I have seen pictures of the bridesmaids wearing light green dresses and carrying purple flowers and that looked lovely too. But I think the girls would rather wear purple gowns than green gowns?

what is a white wedding dress mean vs a colored one i think they said if you wear white your a virgin but colored your not?

isnt it a tradition?

Answer
I believe traditionally it represents purity and a virgin bride. Kind of with the idea that you have been with no one else but the one you're marrying.

People generally used to marry in a colored wedding dress when it was not their first marriage. The idea that they were no longer the virgin bride.

Nowadays I don't think it really matters. I've known of several people getting married in a colored dress for their first marriage.

Do you think black wedding dresses are unorthodox?

INVALID

I honestly wanted to at my future wedding, to wear a different colored wedding dress instead of the traditional white wedding dress; the color black came into mind because I am deeply interested in dark, Gothic styles.

I personally think a black wedding dress would be alluring and very beautiful (seeing Vera Wang's designs of black wedding dresses led me to this conviction), but none of my family members agree. They believe that black wedding dresses would lead to misfortune and death and the color black in general should be worn at funerals only. What do you think?

Answer
I think that believing such a thing about wearing a different colored wedding dress is incredibly silly.
The practice of wearing a white wedding dress isn't that old and it wasn't ever written that you had to wear white to a wedding until after Queen Victoria got married and then etiquette books turned it into a tradition that represented purity.
Wedding dresses were most commonly a deep red among the wealthy before then and lower classes often wore neutral colors like black, gray, and brown.
There should be no dark omens or any such thing associated with the color of a wedding dress.
My mother wore a black wedding dress and my parents have been married 22 years now.

Hey, i really need help picking a wedding dress thats sexy!?

I have a rather weird figure, im a size UK 12. I have a flat stomach but all my fat is in my arms and shoulders. My shoulders are kind off broad and my arms are chubby. Strapless dresses often make me look really fat, dresses with strap also make me look fat because they show the fat on each side of the strap, halterneck sometimes look nice depending on how wide the strap around the neck is. I have not tried off the shoulder, but i have heard its good for broad shoulders that are fat. Anyone have any advice?? I would really appreciate it :) Thanx

Answer
That's easier than you think. You want to emphasis your waist and hide your arms, or at least keep attention off of them.
Yes, off the shoulder is great for disguising upper arms, but they can sometimes add width to your shoulders. Similar to the halter, you have to make sure that the material is wide enough to balance out, the more narrow the fabric, the wider you will look in comparison, while wider fabrics will make you look smaller.
Look for a V-Neck to bring the attention in, and away from your arms, which will also make your shoulders look more narrow, and keep the attention going towards your little waistline. A portriat neckline would br great here. It's not quite off the shoulders, dips into a V at the front, and usually has some kind of detailing at the point to keep the eye moving in and down.
You could also add an illusion sleeve (sheer fabric, either detailed or plain) with an off the shoulder dress to hide the rest of your arms. A bell (flares at wrist) or caplet (flares below elbow) sleeve would work great for this. The wide hem will make your own arm seem smaller.
The look for gowns with a fitted waistline to show off your middle. A basque or antebellum waist would be great for you, the point would keep the eye inward, and off your arms. Plus, it's a very slimming style on most women.
Then I would get a A-line or tulip skirt with just enough fullness to balence your top out. A sheath or column gown can make your top look heavier, while going too full with a ballgown might make you look heavy all over.
Just a few style examples so you know what these things might look like in a gown.

I printed this out for my Maid Of Honor.

*Entertain a party for the Bride and Groom, if possible

*Assist bride with going away clothes and luggage.

*Be sure the bridesmaids are kept aware of their fittings,

(Mother, Grandmothers, Organist, Soloist, Readers, Hostesses)

*Assist bride with her train before and during the ceremony

*Carry the Grooms Ring

Hand is back to her just before the recessional.

*Assist the photographer with identification of the bridal party members
And assuring the whole bridal party gets to reception early for photos.

*Witness and sign the marriage certificate after the ceremony.

*Stand in the receiving line. The traditional place to stand is
At the grooms left side with her bridesmaids to her left.

*Assist bride with her changing into Going Away Clothes

*With the best man, help the couple depart

Answer
I like the last one the best. It is simply gorgeous.
My 2nd choice would be the third gown. I don't like the second one listed, it doesn't look like a wedding dress to me.

I am sure you will look beautiful.

Congratulations!!!

What`s the oldest thing in your closet that you can't throw out?

April

Answer
I still have the costume I wore in "Brigadoon"~from my sophomore year of high school! So, that would be the mid-Sixties. My clever seamstress mom designed it, as well as sewing it so expertly that it still would be wearable.

I also have a powder blue velvet gown that my mom made for me when I was maid of honor at my sister's wedding in 1970.

I think those are the oldest, unless you count the boxful of items in the corner, which includes a number of items from when I was a baby; Mom embroidered them so beautifully that we always kept them. Later, I used them as doll clothes. So, those are from the early Fifties!

EDIT: I forgot about the vintage hats I have on the shelf~from the early Forties. They're beautiful, but I've never had the courage to wear them.

I hadn't realized that my closet is a time capsule because I have clothing from the Seventies to the present in there, too. I'm a hoarder obviously, not a packrat as many people erroneously say. A packrat swaps items~an acorn for your diamond ring, for example; a hoarder keeps everything! *SIGH*

Or will most nice wedding dresses cost more than that price? Can anyone please tell me of some reasonable stores with reasonable prices for wedding dresses? Or websites we can look at from home?
This question is for my sister, not me,I'm a guy and I'm not getting married.

Where can I buy inexpensive wedding dresses online?

october g

I'm getting married in 3 weeks and need to find a site that sells inexpensive wedding dresses. Looking to pay no more than $200 so it can't be one of those super duper custom made ones from China. I might get a Target wedding dress if I can't find anything else. If all else fails I can always make one myself, but I'd rather not walk down that road.

Oh, and is the David's Bridal $99 sale worth it? I want something strapless and simple, I'm a size 18. Not looking for anything extravagant.

Answer
David's Bridal $99 sale is well worth it. I tried on 7 dresses and the one I ended liking the best was the sale dress. Go figure. One I bought everything to accessorize I only ended up spending about $200. This saved us a ton of money to spend on the wedding and honeymoon. You may think this is crazy but I've heard that Target actually sells wedding gowns now. They are only available online though. Probably worth a glance.

what to wear to my own wedding reception?

next year i plan on having a wedding reception even though we are getting married in town hall next week. This is because of our twins that are coming in January, so I'm not exactly getting my dream wedding in a church with a beautiful gown and everything.

Not that i'm complaining, because I am so excited for my twins! But I wanted to know, is it okay for me to wear a wedding gown to the reception? Its going to be a black tie party, but i didn't want to commit a faux pas, you know?

Answer
Just a suggestion, I don't know your financial situation and what not
But one of my friends got married before her daughter was born. on their anniversary they had a renewal of vows at a church, and then had a reception. :)

Any who, just wear what ever you want. It is your reception:)

I wouldn't wear the full blown out wedding gown, but something simple yet elegant:)

What style wedding gown is appropriate for a vow renewal ceremony?

Q. I am a man that enjoys wearing women's clothes, my wife and I are doing a renewal of vows where I get to be the bride (I am so excited that I am giddy)!!! What gown styles and colors would be appropriate for me, and what do you think she should wear (gown or tux)?

Answer
Wear something sedately glamourous...think pale coloured ballroom or cocktail dress for a Duchess, you want dignity, here, not "Hubba-Hubba"
What your spouse wears is her choice, though she should not actively clash with you in colour or style.
If she likes the tux idea, perhaps her accessories (tie, kerchief and cummerbund or suspenders) could be in the same colour as your gown.
Good luck and many happy returns of the day!

What nutritional info should I be looking for on lables during a diet? What should I eat and not eat?

Brian

I am a 33 year old male. 6ft & 275lbs. I have a very large build so my ideal weight is around 200lbs not the 185lbs that you will find on most charts. I have started a diet. I am a little confused about what I am trying to avoid to get the best results from my diet. Calories, Calories from fat, carbsâ¦.. ? I have for the last week been looking only at the total calories in food and limiting my caloric intake to 800 to 1000 a day. Plus drinking massive amounts of water. I have lost 12 pounds. I do not know if it is ok to eat apples, bananas, oranges and such. I keep getting different answers. What I really need is to sit down with a nutritional consultant but there are not any in my area. Does anyone have any advice or know of a nutritional consultant that can contacted by phone? A web site? I am willing to pay for a service of this kind.

Answer
I too am dieting and trying to lose a bit of weight before my wedding, but this same method of dieting helped me lose 40 pounds in college. I want to help, so forgive my rather long answer.

What disturbs me about your question is that you are going to start you diet by limiting caloric intake to 800-1000 a day. I think that is perhaps very aggressive for someone of your build. I am 5'6" with an average build. My intake is probably 1000-1200 on my diet, some days maybe a little less and I'm losing weight fine (and my metabolism is DEFINITELY not high lol). Generally people that are tall and have large builds require more calories for everyday metabolic function than smaller people. But for YOUR ideal caloric intake, you should probably consult a specialist. If you have a primary care doctor, he/she should be able to give you a contact. A good thing to do might be to calculate your approximate caloric intake BEFORE your diet and cut it by half. Then you can gradually decrease calories as you go; your metabolism WILL eventually slow due to calorie loss, and you may want extra pushes to keep up steady weight losses.

As for the calories to avoid, you want to watch calories from carbs and fats. I personally stay away from sugars and any complex carbs that will be broken down into sugars (rice, pasta, bread, etc.) But I don't completely deprive myself. For example, if I want a sandwich, I use one slice of bread and cut it in half instead of 2 slices. That's 100 calories right there. I also have not been able to cut sushi out of my diet. And if you do eat grains, make sure they are as unrefined as possible (stay away from white breads, white pasta, white rice). But keep in mind the most important thing is total calories, so if every once in a while you eat a low cal ice cream sandwich or have some sushi, it's not the end of the world.

Generally I eat pretty much only fish, fruits/vegetables, eggs, and dairy. This was easy for me because these are the things I like eating the most, although I was sad cut back rice. Salads are great but a caveat: stay away from croûtons and be wary of salad
dressings. I would avoid fast food salads entirely and make them at home (these salads have a lot of calories and fat when taking into account the dressing, cheese, chicken tenders, whatever). Restaurants are the same deal; at a restaurant you're really better off just getting some soup or a simple fish and side vegetable. As for fruits, the only fruits I avoid are grapes and bananas. Grapes are pretty caloric and I just don't like bananas (I think they might be high in calories as well, but not sure). Apples and oranges are fine. Yes fruit has sugar and calories, but generally not much when you compare it to typical desserts or snacks. Yogurt is also great for a diet, just be careful of the calories, I've seen yogurt with 200 calories! I get yogurt between 60-80 and I think it tastes fine.

Also, if you're a drinker, beware of alcohol. Mixed drinks and beer can pack a lot of calories. I've had to give up Bailey's myself (sniff). If you'd like wine with dinner, which I usually do, dry, red wine is your best bet, it's not very caloric. I've been drinking quite a lot of Cabernet and it doesn't seem to affect my diet significantly. Maybe it's not good for my liver though. Oh and if you are at a bar with friends, and you feel like a cocktail, I recommend a vodka with club soda.

Drinking lots of water is a good idea; it makes you feel full and it keeps you from feeling effects from dehydration during exercise. Which is another point: whatever you decide to do in terms of diet, exercise. If you burn several hundred calories everyday in exercise, your diet doesn't have to be so painful. The larger you are, the more calories you will burn during exercise, everything is size-relative. Just be careful not to destroy your efforts by eating more, starting an exercise regimen can make you have the munchies at first. This passes, but some people eat what they burned, and get frustrated when they see little result. You would want to do cardio and weights; it's really easy for men to lose muscle on a weight-loss plan and you want to avoid that (make sure you get plenty of protein, but also remember calories come from protein as well, so don't go crazy with the shakes or energy bars). If you don't mind paying, many gyms have resident trainers who can be very helpful in creating a regimen. Here's what works for me: 10 min on treadmill, weights for various muscle groups, then 20-25 min again on the treadmill, then about 20 on the elliptical, and the some abdominal exercises. You don't have to do it this way, what's important is that you get at least 30 min of cardio, and that you do weights after at least part of the cardio. It's not a big deal, just give yourself as good of a workout as you can and then see how much you can do the next time, and so on. Exercise at least every other day.

That's it. But you should make sure of your health before you start your diet and exercise. It's never a bad idea to see a physician before starting something new. And don't become obsessive or inflexible in your diet, that's how people fail. Good luck!

Brainstorm: ideas & traditions for an Irish themed wedding?

wedding dress color superstitions

wedding dress color superstitions image

mellybee43

I am a bridesmaid and they are having an Irish themed wedding. The bride has some ideas already, the theme colour is green obviously. The ceremony will be outside under a gazebo, and the reception will be in an irish pub. Do you have any fun and unique ideas for the irish theme, as well as traditions so I can help the couple out? Thanks!

Answer
I think having an Irish themed-wedding is a great way to show the personality of the couple.

I would definitely throw in a lot of green, but other good colors to use would be white, black, and gold. The groomsmen would look great in green ties. The bridesmaids could wear green dresses and/or carry green flowers. Cymbidium orchids, green gladiolus, ranunculus, green spider mums, and green carnations would all look lovely. For fillers, you could use any variety of greenery or herbs.

Check out http://www.fiftyflowers.com/flowers/WeddingFlowersForestGreenFlowers_24.htm and http://www.fiftyflowers.com/flowers/WeddingFlowersLimeGreenFlowers_23771.htm for some more green flower option.

Using the claddagh, an Irish symbol of two hands holding a heart underneath a crown would be a beautiful touch. This symbol can be found in jewelry, but could also be worked into other areas of the wedding as well.

The bride and groom should consider doing an Irish handfasting ceremony in place of the unity candle.

The bride and groom should definitely have Irish music at the wedding reception. Having someone perform a jig would also be great.

If the bride wanted to go all-out, she could have an Irish wedding cake, which is an iced fruit cake, but the guest might prefer traditional wedding cake.

A lot of Irish tradition revolves around luck and superstition, so picking a 'lucky' day for the wedding would be nice. Saint Patrick's Day is an obvious choice, although the luckiest day to be married is December 31st so the couple starts the new year together.

I would use horseshoes and four-leaf clovers sparingly. It sounds like the bride is looking for ways to incorporate her theme while still keeping with the basic traditional wedding. It could be easy to go overboard with the Irish theme, but I think a little Irish will go a long way.

Unfortunately, something the bride may not have thought about is that a unique wedding theme doesn't necessarily mean it will be cheaper. In fact, depending on how elaborate she gets, she might find herself paying more for her wedding as she tries to make it original. So I would suggest this site to her: http://www.savemoneyonawedding.com. It's a great place to find advice on saving money in all areas of the wedding.

What are the things you need at a wedding?

person

i saw on tv that you need something blue or borrowed or something like that?
can someone explain that to me?

Answer
its a traditional rhyme - probably originating from lancashire in 1883.while viewed as superstition, its just something fun and i dont get why some people get their knickers in a twist over something that is seen as a bit of fun now.this is the full rhyme:

Something old
something new
something borrowed
something blue
and a silver sixpence in her shoe

each item represents a good-luck token for the bride.something old symbolizes continuity with the bride's family and the past.something new means optimism and hope for the bride's new life ahead.something borrowed is usually an item from a happily married friend or family member, whose good fortune in marriage is supposed to carry over to the new bride.the borrowed item also reminds the bride that she can depend on her friends and family

blue has been connected to weddings for centuries.in ancient Rome, brides wore blue to symbolize love, modesty, and fidelity. Christianity has long dressed the Virgin Mary in blue,so purity was associated with the color.a silver sixpence in the bride's shoe represents wealth and financial security.it may date back to a Scottish custom of a groom putting a silver coin under his foot for good luck.for optimum fortune, the sixpence should be in the left shoe.many companies sell keepsake sixpences for weddings or you can substiute with a penny

Best dress to wear to a wedding?

plus size wedding gowns tea length

All right. I've been to one other wedding but this time I'm going with someone who I just want to BLOW away by looking great. Firstly, what dress is appropriate to wear to someone's wedding? Evening gown? Cocktail? Ball? Women! Gay men! Help! Let me give some details: I'm about 5'4" -- Green eyes, brunette, olive skin tone. I'm full figured... I have a chest, I have a butt, I have hips. I would like something that flatters but doesn't make me look like a walking tea-pot. I'm not a plus-size. Any suggestions on color, style, shoes and hair would be great! Thanks!
The wedding is your standard formal wedding. It's at night. I'm in Arizona and it's in February.
I'd prefer a dress over pants. I rarely get to be dolled up for anything so I'd like to take the opportunity. My hair is long, but not excessive. Right below the shoulder blades.

Answer
If you want to blow him away you must look like you did not put too much effort in looking great. Therefore, "excess" is something that you need to stay away from. You don't want everybody's eyes on you for the wrong reason: you want his eyes on you for the very right reasons.

Choose a discrete, elegant, non show-off dress. Check out America Ferrara's dress at the Golden Globes ceremony last Monday. She too is full figured, yet not plus-size. She has your same complexion. Her dress was beautiful, it showed off her main attributes. She has boobs and she showed it, yet in a very elegant and classy way. I think the color of the dress was some shade of purple/blue. Beautiful. Purples go wonderful on green-eyed brunettes. I would not wear an evening gown. A cocktail dress would be appropriate, it will let you show some leg as well. The shoes I'd pick depend a lot on the dress, but as in the dress' case keep it simple, classy, and sexy.

You don't mention your hair length, but if it's not too long, say at your shoulders' length, I'd keep it loose, very natural, brushed straight but with volume on the roots and tips, that you can add with a curler. If it's long you may want to curl it up some, with long wide waves, like Jennifer Hudson at the Golden Globes. Or check out at the Golden Globes too Grey's Anatomy actress Sara Ramirez. She was beautiful, her hair, her dress, gorgeous.

Good luck... and good looks.

Need color combinations for bridesmaids dresses?

Christina

I want them to wear a dress with a different color sash. Not sure what would be great together. Should they be in tea length or floor length? Any manufacturer styles would be appreciated as well. My fiance likes navy blue (all shades), and red. I like pink, all shades of blue, coral and lavender. Any suggestions would be great. Most likely for a Fall wedding, but will take all color and dress ideas. Thank you!

Answer
Just whatever colors you like really. That is one of the wonderful things about having navy as one of your colors is it's a neutral. It goes with everything!

What I suggest is looking for bridesmaids dresses first with your 2 most different bridesmaids. For example if your best friend is a olive skinned gypsy with long brown hair and weighs 100 lbs soaking wet but your sister is 200 lbs of Irish redhead and freckles, take them both. Then you can see what looks good on both. For me, my sister was very well endowed so many of the dresses I liked didn't cover as much as I would have liked.

When you pick the dress, you may hate the shade of purple that it comes in but love the green.

Fall weddings tend to be dominated by the colors of nature--olive, rust, cinnamon, orange, deep yellows, chocolate. But of course it doesn't have to be. Again I'd let my bridesmaids determine that. Do they look good in those colors? I look horrible in orange and olive colors.

Your bridesmaids are the people who matter most to you and they can't be changed out but early on in the selection process your colors might change several times based on how the girls look and how many shades the dress you like comes in.

However navy is a great accent color. You can get navy sashes on every color. It's a deep rich color that is a neutral and goes with everything. It's easy to find and not too girlie if you are putting your groomsmen in vests.

What I think would be gorgeous would be navy and some spice color like cinnamon/sienna/dark pumpkin. You'd have the girls in navy dresses with the sashes be the accent color. The bouts could match the sash but the bouquets could be any color but I imagine a lot of greenery and yellows.

Crimson is another great color. Very vibrant color. Easy to find flowers in it. Great fall color. You can pair it with navy to give a lot of warmth. Difficult however if you are thinking Sept wedding since it may still be quite warm wherever you have the wedding.

Coral is also a great color to work with. A lot of dresses come in it, a lot of flowers, and it is one of the universal colors that everyone looks great in. Coral was one of my wedding colors but I tend to think of it as being more summer/tropical.

Using lavender, I really love an earthy green with lavender. Stay away from something too spring time like clover, but something richer. Either something like mossy with a silver base in it would look great with lavender or something deeper like the color of pine tree needles or a green with a brown base close to an olive. Another idea would be a sandy green. I'm thinking like those giant bushes--narrow green leaves and pale tan spears out of the top. Then you could mix it with a much stronger bolder lavender since the tan/green would be paler.

I love when bridesmaids carry white flowers. It pops against darker shades plus allows the brides bouquet to really stand out as you can use all the colors in the bridesmaids lineup. Both the color of the dresses, the sashes, white and green all mixed in since that would really pop against a champagne/gold gown.

Are you wearing white or a darker color? It doesn't really matter all that much but if you were going with gold or champagne I'd have darker bridesmaids colors to really help you stand out and pull the obvious fall connection.

Tea length dresses are more casual and more suited to an earlier wedding (midafternoon) or a more casual affair. Floor length are usually evening and formal. I also think tea length would be better if your fall wedding is Sept/Oct and the weather is warm. Floor length if it's cooler or closer to November. I love tea length dresses but it really depends on weather.

Pick the bridesmaids first though. It's impossible to look at gowns on a website on a white 100 lb flat chested model and imagine a size 14 curvy latina girl in it. Especially if you aren't built like your bridesmaids, it's very hard to shop for someone completely different than you.

What to wear to a black tie opional wedding?

mangofanat

I have to attend a 'black tie optional' wedding in Atlanta, Georgia, this weekend. Can anyone post links to types of dresses that would be appropriate for such an event? Or describe what would be appropriate?

If you know Atlanta, the wedding will be at the Fox Theater, and pretty classy. Could I get away with a black empire waist corset skirt and silk blouse...OR should I wear a taffeta or satin gown?

Any advice appreciated!

Answer
If it's black tie that's pretty classy ....i would wear a gown to be honest because u don't want to be underdressed and feel dumb....do u know anyone else who is going ask them and see what they are wearing.....that way u won't be over or underdressed by yourself...but i would go with the gown!!
