Bridesmaids Dress???

Soon2BMrsC

Has enyone bought a bridesmaids dress instead of a wedding dres to wear for thier ceremony??

http://www.belsoie.com/html/web1/belsoie_3_photo1.asp?id=121

This is the dress I bought...I absolutely fell in love with it as soon as I saw it and I saved a lot of money by not buying an actual wedding gown. What do you think??

Answer
Hi I just looked at your dress and I must say it's the typical look of a very expensive designer dress that brides are wearing now a days. I have a cousin who was married last September and spent $20,000.00 (YEAH THAT'S WHAT I SAID) on her dress and it didn't look like a years pay to me. If you know what I mean, This dress that you have picked is just perfect do a partial updo with your hair if you have long enough hair to do so and put some beautiful jewel encrusted bobby pins or haircombs. And have a beautiful wedding! Oh one final thought you could also play off the color of your bridesmaid dress by putting a matching shash or tie around your waist that is the color of the bridesmaid dresses

Choosing bridesmaid dresses. HELP!?

iDefyGravi

Okay I have 4 bridesmaids. and they all look SO DIFFERENT. none of them are plus-sized, but their complexions and curves are so different. i still have no idea how to find a dress that all of them will feel good in.

bridesmaid #1. Light brown hair, olive skin undertone, 5'11, supermodel body
#2. Natural platinum blonde, yellow skin undertone, square on top, long legs
#3. Natural black hair, blue eyes, pink skin undertone, curvy, but not plus-sized
#4. Chocolate Brunette, very pale skin, 5'2, thin

I'm leaning towards silver/gray for the color... not sure yet.

help please!!
i love these two... what do you guys think?

Answer
color is a HUGE deal. try looking at a champagne color. It looks good on different skin complexions. I have to go to a wedding in September in Vermont and my bridesmaid dress is really light pink and I have really pale skin. I am NOT looking forward to it. a good idea is letting them pick the design. I have to wear a strapless dress. doesn't work on my body type so I'm going to be way uncomfortable. it's important that your bridesmaids are comfortable.

Davids bridal??

witchywoma

It's been years since i was in a wedding and the dresses they are getting are from davids bridal..Do thier dress sizes run small?? I found the same dress on ebay for a lot less and i am trying to see what size i would need. Would it have to be a size or two larger than my reg. dress size?? I really dont have time to run to davids bridal to try on to see what size i need being the bidding is ending soon...Thanks

Answer
I JUST got a few dresses from David's bridal. Here's the thing. I wear a size 10 in pants a size 8 in dresses.

I just bought a size 10 wedding gown and it fits like a glove. In the bridesmaid dresses, I fit into a size 8. (I am a little more "bottom heavy") That is in the a-line style dresses.

If you are going for a slimmer style, go up another size in the wedding gown. If in doubt, go up a size because it can be altered..... BUT to save alteration costs, I'd say the bridesmaid dresses are pretty true to size, but the bridal gowns run a tad smaller.

Also, if your top and bottom are different sizes, go by the largest part of your body and have it altered.

I need websites for wedding gowns, not David's Bridal, nor Vera Wang and dresses under $500, I appreciate it.

smokejumpe

I'm looking for websites for wedding gowns that are under $500, preferably not David's Bridal. I am looking for gowns that are unique and may be lacy with a touch of color.

Answer
Try Jessica McClintock. I'm going to be in a wedding at the end of the month and I almost got my bridesmaid dress from there but the bride liked one from David's Bridal. If you're in CA there are also two Jessica McClintock outlets and you should definitely be able to get a good deal there.

Can one skin tone look good in all colors? Help please (:?

Angela V.

Hi (: I'll be competing at a pageant in the summer and I want to pick out the perfect gown. The perfect gown involves choosing a color that suits me well. My skin is very light and my skin tone is cool, and I don't plan on tanning. I have dark ashy brown hair and my eyes are medium brown with golden undertones. The color I had in mind was coral but according to what I've seen online it doesn't suit me. However I have people tell me that I look good in every color because of my coloring. Is there a skin tone that can pull off every color? What colors would look the best on me? Which ones should I avoid? Do you think coral would look good on me? How about blush?

http://www.newyorkdress.com/Jovani/5831Jâ¦

http://www.newyorkdress.com/La_Femme/185â¦

I had these color dresses in mind (: Do you think they'd look good on me? The first one in the blush/pink and the second one in the coral color.

Thanks!

Answer
Skin tones can wear different shades of colors that aren't usually suited to their skin tone in the base shade. For example, you probably can't wear orange as good or at all, but look good in peach shades which have a little pink in them ~ or a shade of coral that doesn't have much orange in it.

Hold the dress or whatever up to your face. If your eyes/face/skin appear more attractive and prominent, then these colors work for you. If your face and eyes kind of fade out or make your skin look bad, and the color itself is more prominent than your face, then these colors Don't work for you.

The blush/pink may be ok if it doesn't make you look faded out. Again, you need to hold it up to your face to see how it looks. That's one reason on line purchasing isn't great.

There's a book called "Color Me Beautiful" that helps with picking colors. It was written years ago, so it's in most libraries now. Go check it out to guide you more; it's really helpful. It has pictures of gals showing how their faces fade away and makes their skin look bad with the wrong colors, and how much better they look in the right colors. Try this website for help w/your colors > http://www.colormebeautiful.com/seasons/index.html They may have some examples on there like in the book.

It also helps to check colors in daylight up to your face as fluorescent lighting isn't true light, and can throw off the colors.

how to find dresses with color combination?

rose

Answer
your question is not understood at all though, well if color has to be selected than you can choose the colors according to the skin tone and it also depends where are you planning to wear these colors. if you are attending an event in the night than you can choose to use dark colors and some event in the morning or in day time than you should go for the light colors..

Wedding Dresses???...?

Deemz

Please help me find a wedding dress under $500!
I'm desperate!!!
I'd prefer a ball-gown style dress, and I don't want anything custom-made.
Thank you so much!!!

Answer
Here are a few options that I found online:
This first option is way below your price range but has a 5 star customer review rating. The gathered style of the dress makes the eye wander and not just focus on the top of the dress. If you are a smaller chested person, the sweetheart neckline would make you appear larger without drawing the eye straight to your neckline.
http://www.lightinthebox.com/Ball-Gown-Sweetheart-Chapel-Train-Taffeta-Wedding-Dresses-for-Bride--HSX1251-_p38787.html

This dress is also way under your price range and has a 5 star customer review rating. I love the defined waistline on this dress. It would give you an hour glass appearance while adding to the detail of the dress. The back of this dress is stunning and I feel it complemints the overall feeling expressed in the dress.
http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&catentryId=6165418

I love the embroidery on this dress! The dress is elegant yet looks like it is fit for royalty. It's train seems to flow.
http://www.bestbridalprices.com/eden-select-wedding-dresses-style-5104-p-51776.html?cPath=1&sort=3&style=5&prHigh=600&prLow=400

This is my favorite dress yet. It is almost $200 below your maximum and in my opinion, it is by far the most beautiful. I love the gathering and beadwork on the bottom of this dress. The back of the dress seems to continue the theme of the front. It is an absolutely gorgeous ball gown wedding dress!

Congrats and Good Luck

Do you have an actual internet link to these images? We can't view things saved to your computer.

Go to tinypic.com and upload your photos. Watch the video and type in the answer to prove you're not a spambot. And then copy and paste the "direct link for layouts" or "url for email and im" either one of those will work for us.

EDIT
First dress is from Israel based designer Yaki Ravid

^ I'm providing that link because it has info with where to buy them.

Also if you need help finding any other dresses. Go to Google. Up at the top click on "Images" And in the Google search bar you will see a camera. Click on that. You can either upload an image saved to your computer or paste in a internet link to the photo. You'll get a lot of websites containing that image. But surely at least one will help you find what you need.

gosh i am having so much trouble finding a wedding gown? what gown would look best on a short petite person?

mocoh80

but still feel like i am a princess on my wedding.??

Answer
I was watching a wedding show that was all about advice for brides (Wedding Dos and Don'ts) but this is what they said about petite women:
-do not get a big, poofy dress because they make petite women appear smaller
-slender gowns make petite women appear taller and more elegant (you can still feel like a princess without having all the poof)

here is some other advice i found:
DONâT pick a dress thatâs so trendy that in 30 years everyone will know the exact season you were married. If youâre wondering whether those enormous puff sleeves or that glittered bodice might not be as in-fashion a few years down the road, youâre probably right.

DO find an âof the momentâ It dress that is timeless and classic. This dress by Monique Lhuillier is the type of dress every woman dreams of getting married in. The look is incredibly modern but the texture is soft and romantic. A voluminous skirt is offset by a form-fitting bodice, which really emphasizes your curves. Ultimately, the most important thing is that you feel beautiful in your dress â and it would be near-impossible to feel anything but great in a dress this fabulous.

DON'T try to go to 'sexy' in the wedding dress design - you WILL have to move around, bend over and stretch throughout the day, and you don't want to give the room a show. Save the 'sexy' for the honeymoon wardrobe!

DO Go to a wedding dress specialist. You should visit several wedding boutiques, and learn from the pros. Of course, keep in mind they are selling, so you should take everything with a grain of salt.

DO Keep an open mind while you shop for your wedding dress. Try lots of things on. Often the dress you thought youâd never like is the one that makes you look and feel the best.

this site is all do's and don'ts for different body types:

hope all this helped! and congratulations and good luck!

Wedding gown suggestions?

jadee.poo_

Alright, we wanted to have a ballroom wedding, but, as much as I like them and as beautiful as they are, I don't want to wear a big ballroom-esque dress, being only 4'11", and rather slim, I'd be rather swamped by a dress like that. Any suggestions on what kind of dress I should wear for my wedding?

Answer
Here is some information that I was able to find about petite brides:
The challenge is to add height or length to your silhouette. Look for dresses that have vertical lines.

A-line wedding gowns and Princess wedding gowns are good choices if you keep the flare moderate. The addition of princess seaming add length to the body.

The empire waist wedding dress can give length in the torso. But be careful. If you have a prominent bust or very small busted, the empire waist style wedding gown direct the focus of attention to the bust area.

The sheath style wedding dresses and mermaid wedding dress style are choices you can consider also.

Be careful though of the mermaid style. If you are a petite bride, this is not easy to wear. The gown is designed for a figure that is 5â7â to 5â9â. So the flare might not start on you in the right place.

Also if you have to cut off a lot on the hem, you are cutting off a lot of the fullness in the flare, which may or may not be a good thing.

So if you want to wear this popular style and you are petite what can you do? First wear the highest heeled shoe you can manage. Try on different mermaid style wedding gowns. Note where the flare starts and how much hem will need to come off.

I have seen this style work on some petite brides but the trick is to make sure the flare is minimal and start at your knee.

What about a ball gown? Experts say you should avoid this style. But if you must try it get a style isnât very poufy in the skirt. Full poufy ball gown wedding gowns have a tendency to shorten the figure.

Also, avoid long trains because this overwhelms your figure and make you look shorter.

Details like appliqués, lace motifs and embroidery must be scaled down in size in proportion to your body. Large motifs and design details will be over powering for you.

Not a traditional wedding dress? Is it wrong to add color?

Tiffani L

I am designing my own wedding dress-for the most part the wedding is fairly traditional, but I want m dress to have color. It's a Christmas wedding and the colors are burgundy, cream, and gold (with touches of mauve). Anyway, the dress will most be cream-pretty simple on top, but the skirt will have the burgundy and gold laced in the ruffles at the bottom. It is 1850's Antebellum style. The outer layer will be cream, but you will be able to see the burgundy and gold. I know celebs where color, but I'm curious if it's considered "bad taste"?

Answer
Who's to say if it's bad? It's your wedding. Traditionally a first-time bride always wore white to signify virginity. A woman marrying for the 2nd time could not wear white.

This is from a wedding etiquette site:
This is your first wedding so you can wear what you like, most any style and color. However, your dress length is considered when you look at the formality of the wedding you are planning. A knee length dress would be appropriate only for a very informal affair and has nothing to do with age. most brides wear either tea length or floor length gowns.

Should a woman ware a wedding dress color symbolism purity if she's not a virgin?

Q. Since it is so rare for a virgin bride to marry she should wear a different color dress than brides who are not virgins.

Answer
White wedding dresses came into fashion after the wedding of Queen Victoria
I think that was in the 1840's
Some time in the 1900's Christian churches said white wedding dressed are for virgin
They were just trying to have people not to have sex

So I would assume, a non virgin would be doing the white dress base on Queen Victoria, a fashion statement; not the view that came many years later that white wedding dresses are for virgin

Today they have maturity wedding dresses in white

In some cultures, they do not wear white, they wear red or black or other colors

Wedding Tradition?

C4ndyGirl

It is tradition for a woman to wear a white dress on her wedding night to show her purity. Which means she was a virgin. If a woman is not a virgin, but came to the Lord and repented, vowed sexual purity until marriage, would you think it to be right or wrong for her to wear a white dress to her wedding?
Do you think that by her wearing an off white dress she would be showing the world that she wasnt a virgin?
Oh and this is not a wquestion for me so stop telling me that I can do whatever I want haha...I want an opinion, I'm doing research.

Answer
it depends on the cultural background of the bride. while white or off white is the color of choice for american christians (to signify purity) other colors are used in different cultures. in some cultures the color white signifies death not purity..which I find quite appropriate in some instances hahaha in some asian cultures red is the preferred color of a wedding dress.

My wedding is on July 10th 2011. That means that it's only 11 months away!?

Kara

I have found two dresses that I love because they are simple and would be great for a summer wedding. I am having the wedding at the Hilton Hotel and the hotel itself is big and beautiful. I need to know which one of these dresses would be a better fit for the venue and the time of year. Plus I have no idea how early I should buy the dress. I have heard of girls buying a year in advance and 6 months in advance.

http://www.ariadress.com/Desciptions/Desc185FB.htm

http://www.inweddingdress.com/style-de035.html

Answer
I work in a bridal salon as a consultant. I always suggest to my brides to allow 6-9 months to special order a dress. Yes, I've had it take 9 months to get a dress in before, it doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen, especially if you're wanting to make changes or you want the dress in a color they don't do all the time. As far as which dress you should select, you should try them both on, and see how you feel then, and pick the dress that makes you feel absolutely beautiful and like a bride. A bride knows when she's got THE dress on, you'll get emotional, you'll carry yourself differently, you'll glow, both inside and out. They both have a completely different feel, the first is definitely more vintage inspired, very 1950's New Look. The 2nd dress is more modern, particularly with the ruffles. Never pick a wedding gown from pictures, remember those are models wearing those dresses, they're about 5'10" to 6' tall and are about a size 0 or 2.

You wouldn't be unusual to go ahead and purchase your dress. Many brides do, and the dress really dictates so much about the wedding.

Good luck!

When should my bridesmaids order their dresses?

hjd_79

I'm getting married in July 2011. When should my bridesmaids order their dresses? I have the dresses picked out already. And when should I order my dress?

Answer
Sometimes, salons have what are called "in stock" dresses --- ones that are popular so the manufacturer has them readily available to ship & you can get them quickly. And the salon can usually give you an idea of how long it will take, too.

I'd be hassling them to order now or by end of January at the LATEST. Two of my bridesmaids are plus-sized and one of those two is very tall and needed extra length on her dress. It took 5 months for the dresses to come in and then they had to get alterations on top of that!
And you should also be ordering now, too. Wedding gowns can sometimes take longer than bridesmaids dresses to come in!

What was the traditional Tudor Era wedding dress?

AshleyMari

I remember hearing that wedding dresses from the Tudor Era weren't white, white back then meant something else.
So what color was the traditional Tudor Era wedding dress??

Answer
White for wedding dresses wasn't the norm until late in the 19th century.
In the Tudor period, a woman would wear a "best dress"and it could be any color. There was no specific color that a wedding dress was expected to be.

Princess Mary Tudor, Henry VIII's sister, married Charles Brandon while wearing a black dress trimmed with pearls
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mary_Tudor_and_Charles_Brandon.jpg

In Anne Boleyn's wedding portrait, she is also wearing a black dress:
http://moretea.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/anne-boleyn.jpg

In what appears to be Jane Seymour's wedding portrait (to Henry VIII) she is wearing a dress of dull red
http://www.theanneboleynfiles.com/jane-seymour/837/

But if you do a google search for "tudor wedding dress" you'll find replica tudor dresses in white, because that's what the modern eye expects to see.

Dress color.?

Ashley E

Im kind of a bigger girl, and I know that some colors dont look good on bigger people, what colors do you think is good for a fancy evening dress.. for like a senior dinner.

Answer
It also depends a lot on hair colour/skin colour.

I think darker colours are a safe bet- black is always classic. Or try navy blue for something a bit more trendy.

And the style of dress is really important too. A-line skirt with a V-neck is very flattering. Wearing a skirt and top also looks good because it breaks up your waist a bit. Otherwise you could choose a dress style that comes in a bit at the waist to give you definition.

Light colours such as white and yellow tend to make you look bigger than you really are (as do horizontal stripes-while vertical stripes are slimming).

Which dress color would suit pale skin and dark hair?

Ana H

I was thinking pale green? Or maybe beige?

I don't wanna look washed out, but I think striking colors don't suit me well.
Please help.

Also, which shoe color? ;D

=)

Answer
crimson or wine-red. I know they sound bold, but try it on, it'll probably look incredible and it won't wash you up. Don't go with beige or pale green--those really will wash you out. If you like green, try emerald green. If you like earth tones (or aren't in the mood to go as bold as these colors) try a rick, deep brown silk. If none of these seem to work, or if you're going more casual, light blue looks lovely with that hair/skin combination, or a richer navy blue.
Shoes should, obviously, match the dress. For reds, go with black shoes. For greens, I like brown, for earth tones go with something wild, like bubblegum pink heels. For blues, try to pair dark blue dresses with light blue or mint-colored shoes, or light blue dresses with dark blue shoes.
