Coming home in September and will have a weding reception in Oklahoma, we rented my gown to be married in from a store near where we were married. However we would like to rent me a gown to wear to our reception there. Any suggestions?

Answer
Have you tried the Yellow Pages? Or just check
an online search for "wedding gown rentals" and
Tulsa or Muskogee.

What are the cheapest months to get married in Cleveland,OH?

LaTashaF

Need prices on wedding gowns, bridal dresses, tuxedos, flowergirls, and ringbarers, venus for wedding, and reception, wedding favors, and anything else that goes with weddings like invitations.

Answer
OK well first of all I think that all those extra questions will be done better if you call places around the city to get your quotes. As far as cheapest time I think the Fall and Winter months are the best time everyone wants to get married in the Spring and Summer so you may find more openings in the end of September all the way up to March that would be pretty cheap. I don't think you can rent a flower-girl and a ring-barer unless the family is desperate enough to rent their children out.

Can I have separate themes for my wedding ceremony and reception?

wedding dress color in japan

wedding dress color in japan image

tealady

My colors are turquoise and brown. I am using that for dresses I'm having made and the flower arrangements I making. I'm also making elegant tree branches with lights and ornaments for the ceremony. The reception, however, is themed as a tea party and we are setting each table up with a different tea set theme (japan, vietnam, garden, english, victorian, so on...) The problem is that that reception will have lots of different colors. How should I organize the two themes so that it doesn't look scattered and unorganized?

Answer
I would have all of the tablecloths for the reception be brown. It is a neutral and would go with all the different set-ups at each table and would act as a unifying element.

You might also consider continuing the tree branch decor element from the wedding for the centerpieces on each table. You could hang themed ornaments, unique to each table, setting on the small branch in the center of that table. Like for Japan, you could have the tiny paper drink umbrellas on the branches or for England, you could have tiny silk roses (natl. flower of England).

Everything else on each table could be different and yet they would visually be tied together by the brown tablecloths and the center branches. It sounds like a charming and unique idea for a reception!! : )

What is considered formal wear for a woman in Japan?

Maria

I am heading to Japan to visit my fiance and his family. My fiance has asked me to bring formal wear to Japan, but will not tell me anything else. He said it is not for New Years and when I mentioned a knee length elegant and sophisticated cocktail dress that I've worn before, he just said that I would be cold which is his subtle way of saying that's not the right outfit. I asked if I should wear a suit, and his response was slightly warmer but still noncommittal. When I pushed him for details he would only tell me it's not for a New Years Party or anything like that, and that it's a surprise. Even after checking about the suit option and the cocktail dress option he just kept repeating, "Just bring formal wear". I know that he would normally tell me so that I could make the appropriate choice, but he really does want to surprise me and so I'm left with that somewhat vague statement. So basically I need someone to tell me what the Japanese definition of formal wear is so that I'm dressed appropriately. Do I need an evening gown or is a suit appropriate? Please Help! Thank you!

Answer
I think you'd better bring several outfits, such as a conservative dressy suit (think "mother of the bride"), a floor-length black skirt, cummerbund, and fancy long-sleeved blouse (think "evening at the opera"), and a very modest evening dress made from high-quality material (think "military ball"). It'll be an investment, but perhaps you can leave the tags on until your fiancé helps you select which outfit you should wear, and then return the others when you get back home. Plan to bring one pair of shoes you could wear with any of them.

Pearls or gold jewelry would be better than sparkly things.

Japanese women are generally much smaller than American ones, so unless you're very petite yourself, you would have a hard time finding something in Japan at short notice that would fit you. In any case, a covered-up look, with sleeves, a knee-length or longer skirt, and no low neckline, would be appropriate. The Japanese women would probably wear their good kimonos.

Maybe he's planning a formal ceremony of betrothal.

I ran your question by my husband, who's more familiar with Japan than I am. He thought that the "surprise" might even be a wedding all arranged and ready for you to take your vows together so his family can be present. If you even suspect that might happen, bring a long white brocade skirt instead of the black one, with a matching white brocade cummerbund, and white shoes. Red is the other traditional color associated with Japanese weddings.

Get on http://www.google.com/advanced_search and look up information on Japanese wedding customs. There are quite a few good articles.

How should i dress for spirit week?

dress color of the day image

cupcake <3

So next week is Spirit Week at my school, and i'm sort of at a loss of what to do. Here are the days:
School Spirit Day (we're blue and gold)
Jersey Day (as in New Jersey, not like sports jersey's)
Wild West Wednesday (cowboys and indians)
Stars and Stripes day (anything patriotic)
Class Color Day (we're yellow)

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should dress up as? For the Jersey day, i was actually thinking of dressing like Snookie. Like, the poof, big earings, short skirt, heels, dramatic eye makeup, and a horrible orange self-tanner.
Any ideas for the other days?

Answer
School Spirit Day: Try finding some fabric glitter in gold. Smear the gold glitter all over the blue shirt. For pants, try finding some long, gold spandex leggings.

Jersey Day: I think that the Snookie idea is really cool! Maybe leave the self-tanner out. That won't wear off for a few days.

Wild West Wednesday: Try finding a white and red plaid shirt. Try knotting the access shirt in the front. For the jeans, wear skinny jeans tucked in with cute cowboy boots.

Stars and Stripes Day: Use a white shirt and find some red, and blue fabric die. Squeeze the red and blue die over the white shirt to give it a really cool patriotic look! For your hair, streak your hair with red white and blue (the kind that washes out).

Class Color Day: Use a cute, yellow dress and pair it with a white cardigan and a thick, brown belt. Wear your favorite shoes with it (preferably flats).

Good luck! -Gabby

If I am wearing a black dress, what color should I paint my nails?

Melanie

I'm going to a sweet 16 in a few days and I am wearing a simple black dress with some lace on it. I usually paint my nails darker colors such as black and dark browns. I'm not sure if that will look good with a black dress. What color would look best?

Answer
Get Vixen by Revlon. Its a really dark reddish plum color that looks close to black if you do 2 coats of it. More sophisticated than balck or purple.

I'm in a wedding next weekend and the dresses are cute but a pale yellow color. I have light tan skin, dark blonde hair and blue eyes. What color eyeshadow should I wear with a yellow dress? I'm thinking browns may go best but I'd like more input. Thanks!

Answer
Yes I think you are on the right track, I would do very natural eyes with a dash of golden glimmer dont forget to put the white highlight under the browbone, if you want something a little more dramatic do a brown smokey but still keep it bery subtle. it will really compliment this dress nicely, also just as an extra suggestion i would do a glossy pink lip, just keep your look fresh and summery.

Answer
Make it classic since the cut is classic. I would wear black tights and black pumps. You can wear vintage like jewelry and a black clutch. If you want a mature look then wrap your hair in a bun anywhere on your head. For a more youthful look braid a ponytail to the side.

I am having a semi-formal wedding at the end of June. The reception hall has darkish sage colors. The tablecloths are white. I am wearing a light gold wedding dress and carrying calla lillies. I would like to incorporate the color ivory into the centerpiece. Any ideas would be much appreciated. I have 25 tables to decorate, and would like to do so for under $4/table. Thanks!!!

Answer
Monogrammed Luminaries:
*Buy white paper lunch/craft bags. Get the ones without the handles, as you will be cutting the tops. Use peking shears with a pretty shape, cut the bag straight across the top to make it whatever height you wish.
*Using black ink, put a "porportioned" stamping of either just the last inital or monogram initials in the center of the bags.
(monogram=Grooms 1st initial-smaller size, Last name initial in middle-larger size, Brides 1st initial-smaller size)
You can do this just on one side or both.
*As far as the colors of bags/ink, you can customize it to whatever the wedding color--EXMPL--white bag/black or color ink...light colored bag/black ink...dark colored bag/white paint (Not sure if you can find white "ink"!)
*Pour a weight-base into the bag about 1-2" thick using anything like sand, salt, sugar..even kitty litter! Then place either 2 tealights or 1 small jar candle in each bag. (They make really nice scented jar candles found at dollar stores and it would provide a nice aroma to the reception area)
*Place in center of tables and around the base of the bag you can scatter a variety of things (based on the decor theme): Glitter, fake snow, flower petals, small river stones/pebbels, glass marbles (the flat ones used for crafts/flower vases)a long stemmed rose....or you could tie a wide tewell netting or organza bow loosly around the bottom.
**Plus, whether guests take them or you just toss them at the end-who cares!...what can you do with 30-40 glass bud vases or such afterwards anyway!
I did this for a wedding of 350 people and it was BEAUTIFUL, easy, and very inexpensive...maybe $60 for 35 tables.

~OR~
Easy floral vases:
*Get large clear vases (found at $ stores)
*Empty one bag of frozen peas in each vase (I know, sounds weird, but looks really pretty! And great for June!) You can use more or less of the peas, depends on your taste and size of vase.
*Fill the vase w/water
*Place a few loose flowers (the Callas would be nice, but you can always go w/tulips or even daisies for something really inexpensive!)
* Tie a gold organza ribbon around the middle of the vase.
* an optional step would be to place a votive on both sides of the vase for some mood lighting.

~OR~
Garden party theme:
for something a little more rustic and less formal.....
*Get some small tin, copper, bronze (or mix up your metals!) watering cans...I've seen them at our local dollar/discount stores.
* Plant some spring mix flowers in them. Being that time of year, you should be able to get some really pretty "wild flowers" in flats for a resonable price at your local greenhouse.
*Dress them up w/organza ribbons

I have TONS of other ideas......feel free to email me!

Do you think it's ridiculous to wear a wedding dress to get married at a court house?

Mama De

In that case what do you wear?

I don't know If I'm getting married at a church yet. I would rather just go to the court house but what should i wear if that's the case

Answer
Getting married at the courthouse makes me think of 40's and 50's movie starlets for some reason, with their lace trimmed dresses and trim pencil skirts...so I'm going to show you one or two contemporary dresses but I love the vintage look that getting married at the courthouse inspires in me. The one thing you didn't mention was your body type so I'm going both ways.

If your plus sized this website has some really, really beautiful dresses:
http://www.igigi.com/
My faves include this cute knee length strapless dress (contemporary but classic):
http://www.igigi.com/priscilla-wedding-dress.html?source=GAN
This dress is more retro but would pop with a cute cage veil:
http://bios.weddingbee.com/pics/35543/bird_cage_veil.jpg
and a pair of peep toe pumps

Another great website:

This sheath dress is very reminiscent of Veronica Lake a cage veil would also look good with this dress as well as a cat eye and a bold red lip:
http://www.onewed.com/wedding-dresses/designer/davids-bridal-woman/dress/strapless/sheath/knee-length/9n9871/

This ivory, strapless baby doll dress is modern but I love the knee length a-line skirt and contrasting belt with the beading embellishment:
http://www.onewed.com/wedding-dresses/designer/pure-by-justin-alexander/dress/strapless/baby-doll/knee-length/oj00/
This empire waisted gown is also modern and I love the embellishments on the sash:

Another retro inspired dress this reminds me of the 1950's:

A gorgeous shoe that I could easily see being paired with it is this gorgeous pair of Aruna Seth peep toe heels:

Lots have asked to see it, but I thought it would be bad luck to post it before the wedding. This is the wedding gown that I made for only $29.00. The fabric came from eBay, the lining was $1.00 a yard at Wal-Mart. The ribbon was also an eBay find. The lace trim came off of my mother's wedding gown and was hand made by grandmother. The train is also from my mother's 45 yr old wedding gown, hand made by my grandmother. There are 5 pics, including the $6.00 bridesmaids gowns. All were designed and sewn by me, I'd like to know what REAL BRIDES think.

Could I wear this dress as a wedding guest?

I was planning on wearing black leggings, but I've never been to a wedding and I'm not too sure what to wear.

Here's the dress:

https://www.urbanog.com/Rebecca-Dress_101_29860.html

Answer
It's rather close to white, and as you may have heard, a white dress is only for the bride. Some bridal gowns are actually ivory, blush, cream-color, or even pale beige, as well as white. So if you do decide to wear that dress, accessorize it with a very colorful sash. Wear natural-colored panty hose with the dress, not leggings.

As for black, that's not a good color to wear to a wedding either.

What do you think about my high school dress code?

dress shirt color with khaki pants image

lmdramos

Ok so our dress code is a long sleeve dress shirt tucked into khaki pants with a brown or black dress belt and brown or black dress shoes. We have to wear this with a tie that is snug to the color and extends to the top of the belt buckle. Our sleeves are to be buttoned and the wrist and our collar is to remain fastened at all times and our ties are never to be loosened. From November to the end of march we have to wear this with a sport coat as well.

Answer
My school has a similar uniform. It is this: It looks good not really like a uniform, but it gets annoying
Guys:

A-Day: White dress shirt, black suit pants, black dress shoes, long black socks, matching suit jacket, blue & black striped tie

B-Day: Blue Dress shirt, black pinstriped suit pants, matching suit jacket, long black socks, black dress shoes, blue & white striped tie.

C-Day: Choice of combination of any a or b day, may wear suit vest or sweater instead of suit jacket

Guidelines:
Shirt always tucked in
all buttons done on shirt
tie always done up
jacket must be buttoned (all 3) during classes

Overall mine isn't ugly and more formal attire like but still gets annoying
Don't know what 1 you would rather have

well the day obviously before the wedding what do you wear?
i was thinking a dress but a more casual one.
any examples you can give me or links to dreses

thanks
oh im 14 and the weddings in texas in may

Answer
like the other people here, we need much more info. I would talk to the bride and ask her, because I don't think it would be very good if you "outshine" her, even at the rehearsal dinner. You don't want to have a bunch of attention on you. My guess that a nice dress, one that you would wear to church or interview would always be appropriate, or a business suit (short black skirt, really cute top, with a trendy small jacket, great shoes and purse). When in doubt, I don't think you can go wrong with this.

More info that you are 14....I would just wear a pretty sun dress with some type of little jacket cover-up thingy that you could have on or off depending on what is appropriate. Sandals or shoes. (don't wear flip-flops)

What's a good job for a single mother returning to college?

What is a good job choice, while going back to college full time?
For a single mother who has to work and go to school full time?

Answer
I am a mother of three and full time college student but my husband supports me. The only thing I can think of that may work is work study where you get to work in the library or computer lab and get to study between serving customers and some sort of Job like selling crafts on Etsy.com. I always thought that getting into the wedding planner/ rental business would be good since it would require weekends and little time in between. If you made silk bouquets and boutonnières, an arch with a swag in the center and decorated a fake reusable Styrofoam cake with plaster or Spackle with a small real cake on the top for show when the bride and groom cut it and served sheet cake and punch with a simple meal option of cheap soup like Italian wedding soup made with rice instead of pasta and homemade meatballs made out of meatloaf which has a filler of rice or bread crumbs instead of plain sausage with sandwiches. If you had a good crafter friend you could hook couples up with inexpensive wedding ring options. and if you had plain white dresses in small medium, large and extra large with a couple added ribbons and frills and made veils you could eventually make a mark in the gown rental business. The key is to make it appeal to the largest audience possible. Brides may want a keep sake bouquet or other keepsake heirloom. You could also offer service as a photographer and possibly offer to do scrapbooks depending on how much time you would want to put in it. To do the most weddings you need to appeal to those who would have otherwise eloped. Stick with classical rather than than trendy unless you want to offer a couple rental packs for each wedding like one with red roses on black and white package and one in whatever the trend of the year it or do it by season spring, summer fall winter etc. Make sure that you familiarize yourself with all options and prices in your area and that you price yourself both competitively but realistically.

Youtube video will me out a lot so i can learn how to do them before my reunion in about mid to late October. Thank you to everyone who helps out with this one.

Answer
I normally think the higher-neck dresses should have hair up.
Lower necks should have hair down.

Although dress #1 has the lowest neck, there is a lot going on with the sleeves. Since there's a lot of fabric, I think it would be best to have hair up.

This hairstyle would be pretty with dress #1:
http://i1261.photobucket.com/albums/ii596/lolita56381/taylor-swift-updo_zpsb53668bc.jpg

I think something more proper and pretty would look good with dress #2:
http://i1261.photobucket.com/albums/ii596/lolita56381/loose-side-bun-hairstyles3_zpsccc296d4.jpg

I feel like dress #3 would look nice with either a total updo or a half updo.
I would either wear one of the other updo styles with this one or something like this:

I have been asked to be the photographer at a Halloween themed wedding. Dressing up is not required but encouraged. What should I wear? I dont want to stand out to much but they want me to dress up. by the way I will be about 6 months pregnant by this time..

Answer
You need to wear something that you can work comfortably in, and it also needs to be easy to get out of, so you can use the bathroom. And it needs to be something that is good with comfortable, flat shoes.

- A pregnant cat (cat ears are always cute on chicks, and this is funny)
- A hippie (makes sense with pregnancy)
- Grecian woman (wear a longer dress)

My fiance and I are having a japanese themed wedding and for the ceremony I want to wear a wedding gown (the typical white gown) but for the reception I want to wear the traditional wedding kimonos.

Answer
Yeah good luck with that. Traditional kimonos cost THOUSANDS just to rent.

And by the way, the Emperor and Empress dont usually get that title until later in life-- long after they got married. There is no special "wedding outfit" as you put it.

Please dont do a Japanese theme if you know nothing about the country. Youll make a fool of yourself and confuse your guests.

And also... wearing a proper kimono is very difficult and even modern Japanese have a hard time with it. Youll never survive. And you certainly cant dance wearing one. Have you ever tried wearing the shoes? Yeah, good luck with that.

Answer
After well over twenty years in this business I am going to give you two things that you would have to pay for if you waited for my book---so you'll owe me somewhere before long at all because both of these will pay off better than the slots------

First off--make a couple of simple three ring binder mini portfolios---and take them to local tux rental businesses and bridal gown shoppes---talk out offering them for the customers there to look through while they're in the store--be sure and have your name and contact information on the book and leave quite a few business cards as well--try to stop by and check up on these every so often and make sure they never run out of your business cards

The other place that this idea works is in bakeries that either specialize in or have areas within their business that specialize in the production of wedding cakes---these places are gold mines for prospects

The other takes some logistics---some planning ---and some real effort --but can pay like splitting stock options---and that is a thing called the POLK DIRECTORY--This amazing little power house comes out new every year in most sizeable cities in America and within its pages has the cross referenced names and addresses of every citizen in the city---this will run into an investment here because these puppies are not free--cost somewhere around 150 usd each---NOW THE POOR MAN'S VERSION would be the phone book -- but the phone book will not be nearly so targeted-------you take this little book and the local paper---you read and make notes on each and every engagement you find announced there--you note--especially the bride to be's name and where she's from--and then you use your book to find that person's address and you send her a run down on the services you offer--your price lists--and a personal invite to view your work and talk out her particular needs for her wedding

I have done tens of thousands of dollars using nothing more than these two simple public relations tools and you can benefit from them too---hope this helps you--I just hope I haven't turned loose another competitor in the Dallas, Texas area------------

Where to rent a wedding/bridesmaid gown in the Dallas/FW area?

Answer
Wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses are hardly ever rented and if they are it is done at an elopement establishment.

You can get cheap gowns at Davids bridal or even at department stores like JCPenny.

Deff. berry pink!..... This color should cause you to stand out in a crowd of more basic colors, which people tend to stick with. Also bright colors give a boost of confidence!

For my wedding each of my bridesmaids will be wearing a different color dress, I want their flowers to match their dress color. What flower would work the best for dying them?

Answer
Any white flower can be dyed by just sticking the stem in a bottle of ink*. Carnations are often dyed that way.The florist can probably do that for you.

*You can split the stem and put them in different bottles. Half the flower will be one color, half the other color.

What hair/makeup should I use for my 8th grade graduation?

michigangr

Ok so I have pretty pale skin and blue eyes. My hair is normally pretty straight but semi-wavy. My hair is a light brown with natural (not dyed) golden blonde highlights. My dress is floral with a lot of different colors but it is mostly blue with splashes of pink, orange, etc. My shoes are a light tan color. I would like some ideas for good hair/makeup looks that would look good with all this. I do wanna wear enough makeup so that it is noticeable that I am wearing some!

Answer
For your hair, I would curl it with loose curls and then put it half up half down and bump it but jut a little bit. And for your make-up I would use brown eyeliner and just trace your eyelashes and for mascara, make them look full and long so you can see them from a little distance. Then for your eye shadow, do the smokey eye with probably a purplish pink and white but make sure than it's shimmery eye shadow... I think that would look really good!
