I'm having trouble picking my colors for a september wedding. September is in between summer and fall and can't decide on the flowers or the bridesmaid dresses. My wedding is sept 26 and feel very lost on what to do.

Answer
Do you have a favorite color? If you do I would go with that. You should use the colors that you love.
If you don't have a favorite color there are lots of options that you have. You could go with a burnt orange color - maybe you can throw in a little bit of yellow and red as well; or even a rich pink color.

I have never heard of the color claret - is it a purple hue - pink brown? What?

Googled it- it is maroon or red or deep purple - they had this all classified under claret-

If its more purple then Orange would be nice

If it is Maroon then gold is nice

if it is red then black is nice.

hi, i am getting a pale blush type color wedding dress and cant really decide what colors would go best for linens and all the wedding decor. it is a vintage style dress and i love it soooo much its so romantic and totally fits my personality and no matter what im wearing it but i need help with this predicament, thanx so much i will try to post a picture

Answer
Starting with the view that guests will see first, around where you and fiance will stand, be it church or other, palms (not tropical) from florist about four behind officiant and beside you and f, springeri ferns on pedestals, framing you, nothing added unless a bit of baby's breath. Pew markers pale pink tulle bows with springeria fern trailing down and in middle, very simple. BM in sage green, MOH in pink, a shade deeper pink than your gown. MOH with bouquet of pinks, sage and cream. The cascading kind not the clumpy round. Your bouquet more of the traditional also, ivory flowers with a touch of pale pink and some greenery, just enough to accent gown but not take away from it's beauty. Sort of a vintage victorian era look. BM carrying arm bouquets of long stem roses, about three with greenery and stems covered with the color pink of MOH dress with a small bow at base of flowers and a few small ribbons trailing down tied with lover's knots. Something different than all the strapless dresses and hand tied clumpy bouquets. Airy, delicate, to show off flowers. Gibson girl style hair do's and minimal jewelry, creamy pearl earrings. Picture this with you and f in the middle, like a V with you being at the point. Roses/deeper shades of pink with cream rannuculus. Pale pink) asiatic lillies, not callas (stems too thick, not delicate) for you with cream roses and a bit of lilly of the valley. Greenery, especially for arm bouquets=bells of Ireland, not too long. Groomsmen in black tux with sage green vests and ties or a sage green/tiny pink stripe tie with bouts color of MOH dress. Groom in ivory/cream vest and tie, with a pale pink bout.
Tablecloths sage green, pink napkins, no table runners or throws, no bows on chairs unless on one side of back of chair a small rose or peony with greenery and streamers, keep simple elegance,, or no bows on chairs, let focus be on centerpieces-add a bit of lilac, no blue=baby shower, do a combination, different things on each table, ie: tall eiffel tower vases with three very, very long stem roses or carnations with bells of ireland greenery, some with small antique looking bird cages filled with flowers, a tiny bird on top perhaps, small floral arrangements with hurricane globes with the thin (regular) tall pink candle, tall candelabra filled with flowers, hanging gems with pink votives around base.Sage and pink pillar candles sitting on a brocade napkin with colors green, pink and rose on some tables, mix it up a bit, not seeing floating candles, but maybe. Other tables small on side or larger hanging upside down, creamy lace umbrellas with flowers and streaming creamy pearls in and around handle and draped loosely around handles/ribbon thru and around just loosely or a bow at top where umbrellas stems(ribs) attach to round part. Perhaps small pillboxes, tea cups/saucers, crystal/glass heart/round shaped (small glass containers) (the small kind found at $ stores) with lid propped against with pearls in and streaming over, or fill with tiny pink silk rosebuds, create a grouping, very delicate perhaps on entrance tables, etc. (sort of like a Victorian lady's dressing table) Birds, ferns, jewelry boxes, pill boxes big in Victoria era. Ceiling draped with shades of pink and cream tulle with hanging upside umbrellas with flowers streaming over, use silk garlands loops of pearls perhaps or use smaller umbrellas with tulle gathered up at intervals with large one in center or or just big creamy bows with streamers, not seeing japanese lanterns at all, but a possibility. Lots of candlelight and subdued lighting for a very romantic feel.

Are you doing anything at your wedding that is nontraditional?

winter_spi

For example, a colored dress or a dessert reception if your guests are used to a full dinner, etc?

Answer
I guess our whole wedding is pretty nontraditional, although its becoming very popular now days. A traditional wedding is not us, and we like to be different.

-For starters, the way our relationship started is totally untraditional (lack of a better word maybe)
-We're getting married out of state, Hawaii
-Getting married on a Wednesday
-Small ceremony on the beach, Hawaiian style (neither of us are Hawaiian)
-Buffet with Hawaiian, Japanese, and Filipino food (I'm half Japanese and he's half Filipino. And we got together thru a text haha, while I was vacationing in Hawaii)
-Spending the first few days of our honeymoon with friends and family, yeah I know it sounds weird but it'll be like a family vacation!
-Having the "reception" 2 months after the wedding. Luau style with Hula dancers. I might even perform
-Wedding party in Hawaiian style clothing
-Everything will be informal
-I'm wearing a simple dress with a Hawaiian print that I can wear again if I want
-Wedding party is uneven (3 bridesmaids and 5 groomsmen)
-No flower girl or ring bearer
-No bouquet or garter toss
-No bachelor or bachelorette parties
-The guest book will be something where each family fills out a page of questions like "How do you know the bride and groom?" "How far did you travel?" "Advice for the new couple?" and so on, plus a spot on the page for their picture
-Almost everything will be hand made or done ourselves, and friends will be the DJ, Photographer, etc at the Luau
-Place cards will have their names in English and Hawaiian
-We're having a candy buffet rather than individual favors
-Neither set of parents are paying
-And it won't cost a fortune! haha

I am getting married next September and I found bridesmaid dresses I love. They are 3/4 sleeve and lace. However, I haven't found my gown yet. Would it look bad if I don' t have a gown that is also 3/4 sleeves and lace? I love that look, but doubt I'll be able to find it in my price range.

Answer
they should coordinate, not match.

You wouldn't want a spring flowing dress for the bridesmaids and then a heavy formal bridal gown for you.
Your gown doesn't have to be 3/4 sleeve with lace. but it should go with them. maybe a dress with a little of lace

My friend is getting married and wants to wear a red wedding dress. Since I had a Christmas wedding, I had also had a red wedding dress. But her plan was to get married in March. I think it's great either way, but I was just wondering if it there was a rule as to what colors to wear for what season or if those rules even matter anymore?

Answer
It really doesn't matter. The only time I could see it clashing is if you had an outdoor wedding in the fall. Don't let her spend too much time worrying about what is or isn't acceptable for her wedding. In this day and age people are changing everything they can about weddings, so what colors go with what season and what color your wedding dress is doesn't matter. As long as the wedding is a reflection of her and her husband and she doesn't look back thinking "if only I did that"

How do women go to the bathroom in a wedding dress or prom dress?

Raj

How do women go to the bathroom in a wedding dress or prom dress? Just curious. I hear it is very complicated.

Answer
I really don't think you need more than one person to help you take off your wedding dress when you go to the bathroom. All you really do is unzip it or untie it (depends on the closure on the back) and take it off. Or if your dress isn't that poofy you can just lift it up and do your business.
Prom dresses are usually less complicated than wedding dresses are, so you don't need any help and you don't need to remove your dress (unless it's a complicated poofy ballgown). The smart choice would be to go to the bathroom before prom and try not to drink too much.

My friends all tell me that it will make me feel cheap but its beautiful and it was 75% off at JC penny. The other one I was looking at was at a bridal shop for $350. Should I just go with the bridal shop one?

Answer
As long as you like it, wear it. No shame in wearing a $14 dress. It's better then spending 300 bucks, after all, the wedding day only lasts for a day, but you two will live a lot longer with the debt... If you found a 14 dollar dress that YOU like, that's the bomb! Forget your friends, they ain't going to buy it for you. You like the dress so wear it. And CONGRATULATIONS

How long do I need to allow myself to buy a wedding dress "off the rack"?

Stacy

My wedding is in September 2010. I keep hearing different timings about how long you have before the wedding to choose a dress, and the mention of "custom" dresses keeps popping up. Are people really designing their own dresses these days? Like, sketching it - and working with a designer to create it?

Answer
I bought my dress off the rack. If your wedding is in September, I would buy it a couple months before. You need to allow one month for alterations, and you want some wiggle room for photos or emergencies. Of course, if your weight doesn't change much then buy it whenever, I bought mine more than a year in advance on clearance, 75% off. That was at David's Bridal, it was one of the designer gowns they carry, it is a ballgown with Japanese organza overlay and embroidered roses and glass beads. They aren't the same as the ones in a boutique which you must order like 6 months in advance.

I think when people say custom they are talking about like a dress off of eBay where a Chinese company makes it for you, not their own custom look and seamstress. It isn't the right word, I think. "Custom wedding dress" get 30,000 hits on eBay.

I'm really good with makeup, but I'm clueless to this. I don't want to wear blue eye shadow because I already have blue eyes. My dress color is teal and I really need help. For some more information, I have medium length light brown hair and my dress is long so if anyone has any advice, that would be great.

Answer
I think you should stick to tones that are more natural. Maybe a natural bronze-y smokey look like this one: http://eyesmakeup2011.blogspot.com/2010/09/ud-naked-palette-tutorial-smokey.html

Or for something simpler and less bang: Just swipe on some bronze eyeshadow (or bronzer xD I have used it before because I didn't have the color in eyeshadow) line your top lid with liquid eyeliner, starting at where your lash line starts (very thinly) and gradually getting thicker towards the oter edges with a wing-tip. Only put on eyeliner in the bottom outer corners so it looks like it kinda connects to the top eyeliner, when you look at yourself from far away it shouldn't be too obvious. It should look like you have no eyeliner on the bottom at all. :) since your eyes are going to look bronze, try to stay away from uberpink makeups (lipstick and blush).

Me and my fiance want to have a nice wedding with out having to get married in the court house...We are trying to save for a house and we have 2 small boys so we really don't have a lot of money for a big wedding. So can any one help us !! ??

Answer
Here's some advice - hope this helps!

1) Get married on an "off" day and month. Getting married on a Sunday in February (like President's Day weekend) or in March would probably save you tons. Our venue offers wedding packages for half off from January-March.

2) Use "do it yourself" invitations from Target, Michaels, or Wal Mart. You can get DIY programs, save the dates, etc. Do them on your own computer and save tons of money.

3) Buy your wedding dress from craigslist or ebay. You can get new ones on there, but you can get GREAT deals on used ones. I bought a used Maggie Sottero gown and got it for $140. It was originally $1200. :)

4) Hire a professional florist for the bouquets and boutinierres, but do the centerpieces yourself. You can get flowers in bulk from Costco or Sam's Club and do a very very simple centerpiece. There are tons of great ideas on theknot.com and Martha Stewart Weddings.

5) Consider having your wedding at 3:00 so that people aren't expecting dinner. That way you can serve heavy appetizers. If you need to serve a meal - buffet is going to be cheaper than a plated dinner (ours if $24.95/person for the most expensive buffet option, but the cheapest plated dinner is $34.95/person).

6) Consider hiring an art student with an eye for photography as your wedding photographer.

7) Use an IPOD connected to a speaker system rather than a DJ.

8) Have a close friend get certified to be the officiant at your wedding! They can do it online and it would be special for the two of you and save you some $$!

Alright - hope that helps! :)

How do you plan a small, simple and classy wedding?

April

on a very small budget? i just want something nice for my closest friends and family. but i still want it to be something special to remember

does anyone have any advice on planning something like this.. help will be greatly appreciated.. i have no idea where to start.
is it really ok to just do desert? im pretty good at that stuff and i was thinking of making chocolate covered strawberries and maybe a few other little desserts.... and the cake ofcourse.. a friend of the family is making it for just 50 bucks!

Answer
Easy.

We're getting married in just under two weeks, our entire wedding budget (including the dress, food, and open bar alcohol) is about $3000.

Consider buying your dress used. I got mine off of our local Craigslist for $350. It's a designer Maggie Sottero gown, which in stores retails for at least $1000. I also bought our daughters flower girl dressed used for only $50. As a bonus, it's a totally green way to go! Completely enviromentally friendly!

For invitations, buy the Do It Yourself kit. We did. 100 invites for $25 from our local Michaels. We designed them ourselves, and they turned out very unique and wonderful! My mom said she liked them better than the professional invite she'd received earlier in the month.

Have your ceremony/reception at a friend or family members home. Do you know anyone with some country property? This would be perfect. We're doing ours at my parents home. 134 acres, with a 4.5 acre limestone quarry as our backdrop. Surrounded by lush green forest. Better than a lot of professional wedding venues, and it's all FREE.

Get flowers from a grocery or department store, it will be much cheaper. OR, if you know anyone with a garden, enlist their help. All our flowers are free. Tiger lilies are our flower, and they just happen to be in bloom at the time of our wedding. All flowers for centerpieces, bouquets, decorations, etc, are completely free.

Invite only your closest friends and family. We have a grand total of about 80 guests attending our wedding.

Do your own music. If you're willing to rent your own DJ equipment, you can still have a fantastic party without paying through the roof for a professional. We're paying only $100 to $150 to rent all the equipment a professional would use, and that's the price for an entire WEEK. A fraction of what a pro costs for only 4 hours!

Instead of just hiring a professional photographer, check out some portfolios for aspiring students. You'd be surprised at the amount of talent those students have! A lot of the time you'll find their talent far surpasses that of professionals. And, because they are still students, they still have the enthusiasm that a lot of pros seem to lack. Just MAKE SURE they have some experiance in wedding photography (maybe try to find an actual wedding photographers assistant).

Or, if you have any friends that are photographers, ask them. My brother is a professional, and is doing our wedding as a gift. Lucky us! He takes amazing pictures, and has traveled overseas just to do so!

Consider doing your own food. We are. My mother is an experianced cook (for large groups, as my parents run a bed and breakfast). Everything except the meat is being done by us.

Instead of spending hundreds on a cake, buy something nice, but not a typical cake. We're getting a nice black forest cake (husbands favorite) for us to cut. Then, we'll also get a bigger black forest sheet cake, to serve our guests (with ice cream of course!).

The point is, if you're willing to take things into your own hands, you can save literally THOUSANDS of dollars.

Do you know a good place to get alterations?

I'm trying to find a place where I can have my wedding dress altered (the shop I bought it from was going out of business, so unfortunately I am unable to get it altered there.) Ideally, I would also like to have a bolero jacket made.

I live in Frederick, MD, but all places in the Washington DC metro area would be appreciated (parents live in Rockville, and my fiance and I work in Fairfax, VA - so we're pretty familiar with a large area.)

Thank you so much for any leads you're able to offer. I prefer places that come with a recommendation rather than just looking up alteration places on line.
Ebonei S - what's her name? Where is she located? And does she have a website?

Answer
Yes, I know a wonderful place in Bethesda, called Chevy Chase Custom Tailors. (Despite the name, they do women's clothes as well as men's.) I'm a guy, and they have done some "impossible" jobs for me, things that no one else would touch. They are also fast. I can't say enough good things about them. Here is their Web site: http://www.chevychasecustomtailors.com/

But if you can't make it there for some reason, I have another suggestion: go to pretty much any good quality store that sells bridal gowns. They all have someone to do alterations, of course, and most (maybe all) will take what is called "customer goods." In other words, you can bring in your dress, even though it came from another store. They usually charge extra to work on a gown from somewhere else, but they certainly know how to fit a gown.

I hope this helps. Congratulations on your wedding, and good luck!!

Where can I get SUPER cheap plane tickets?

Kee

Money is a little tight right now because I'm having to buy senior pictures and my cap and gown and other senior stuff. I got accepted into University of Denver, which was my #1 choice. But, I'm really not comfortable going to a college that I've never even visited. Do you know of any airlines that are offering really cheap tickets (I mean less than $110 round trip from Washingto D.C to Denver, or Richmond, VA to Denver? Easy 10 points. I need a MIRACLE. All suggestions are welcome.

Answer
It will be extremely unlikely to get a ticket that cheap. Northwest Airlines has cheap flights from Dulles to Denver. The cheapest you can get in $170.39 with taxes in that price. That is round-trip, and for one adult. The flight departs from Dulles, and on return, arrives at Reagan.

Wed, Feb 11 Depart: 6:04 am Washington, DC (IAD) Northwest Airlines 1611
1 stop
Arrive: 10:22 am Denver, CO (DEN) Northwest Airlines 1771

Wed, Feb 18 Depart: 11:05 am Denver, CO (DEN) 1 stop
Arrive: 6:51 pm Washington, DC (DCA) Northwest Airlines 558

**The stop on the first flight is in Detroit DTW**
***The stop on the return flight is in Minneapolis/St. Paul MSP***

what to wear to an outdoor wedding in december?

max

i'm attending my cousin's wedding in december - it will be outdoors in malibu, california. i have no idea what to wear - any ideas?

Answer
Honestly, no one expects you to look glamorous. If you do not have a black/white/beige (anything simple) colored coat, borrow one. I am sure if will not have to be a dress coat but just a nice mute color. Make sure your gloves & scarf match and keep with the muted tones.

Note! Do not wear a hat! You will ruin your hair. Try to get the earmuffs that sit around your neck. This will be very important. Bring an extra pair of shoes. No one wants to chance dress shoes outside.

Hope that helps.

I was thinking about wearing a black wedding dress for my wedding. I want to do a black n white themed wedding and was thinking of having the bridesmaids wear white with a black accent and than i was thinking that i would wear a black wedding dress. I dont want a goth wedding i just want to do something unique for my wedding. Do you think that its bad luck or a bad idea? All responses welcome!! Thank you!!

Answer
I think it's okay. There's nothing wrong with a black wedding dress.

Personally though, I think that it would look good with touches of white. It helps pull away from that "goth" look you're trying to avoid, and it makes the dress pop.

For example:

My boyfriend and I are planning our wedding, but we intend on a very long engagement. Our date is for 2014 right now. My problem is that I have found the dress of my dreams in Vera Wang's Fall 2010 collection. I am worried that when the time comes to walk down the isle Vera Wang will no longer have that particular dress.

They discontinue dresses all the time so if you found the one you want then get it now and save it. Its very hard to get a discontinued dress. If you change your mind you can always sell it on ebay or something.

With winter weddings I think of cool, clean, crisp as in new fallen snow and the crystal clarity of ice (maybe not very practical). Don't know the type gown you are wearing but the kind with the long draping sleeves that end in a point lined in silver would be beautiful. I digress, sorry, but love ren weddings//also brocades// In looking at ren weddings, ivy-lots of it is a given, bridal bouquets were large and hand tied.
Wheat was often added as a sign of fertility and many herbs. Also birch twigs and holly. With royal I like the silver, ivory or white and other shades of blue. Although bouquets of ren weddings were made from flowers (many wildflowers) whatever was available with many flower garlands and drapings.(google cosmos and anemones) Many brides wore floral circlets in their hair, braided or an updo of some kind with silver and pearl hanging ribbons and loops of pearls, never worn down loose. ( I love a single pearl teardrop on the forehead with a coronet or circlet of silver and pearls with small white flowers intermixed) White roses or be careful as many roses even though they say white are ivory. I would have a bouquet of several colors. Burgundy(to me burgundy is more of a winter color, not a true red-if you do use red red, no pinks, go with blues and lavenders and ivory flowers) roses to enhance the elegance of the royal blue and I would assume in ren times that red flowers were readily available, white lillies, blue delphinium, shades of pinks that will blend with the burgundy, ivy or silk ivy and some ivy loops within the bouquet itself with long ribbon streamers and the small ivy hanging down. Hand tied with silver/grayish silver ribbon with silver and pearl streamers, a very large bouquet depending on your size.Lots of silver and be careful of the way you arrange so as to not look too militarish. Even peach/coral could be substituted for the red/burgundy--I just love burgundy/mauve/ivory combo with the royal. Ivory rather than white would blend well with the brown jerkin as well as the twigs/decorative branches/just go out in the woods and look around. Also add the lacy Queen Anne's lace in your bouquet, very antiquish looking, also leaves of the gray dusty miller. Ask florist.

Ideas for inexpensive wedding attendant gifts.?

I was planning on getting my bridesmaids and candlelighters a necklace from Claires that they can wear with their dress. I need ideas for the groomsmen, flowergirls, and my parents. Any ideas for inexpensive gifts. Not that they don't deserve more, I just can't affort it after all the other wedding expenses. I also have a question about the ceremony. We are giving roses during the ceremony to our mothers. I have a step mother as well. I don't want to not give her one and hurt her feelings but if I do give her one I'm afraid it may hurt my mother since she is the one that's always been there. What is you opinion. Thank you so much!

Answer
We gave our groomsmen Chicago Bears t-shirts and Bears coaster sets. The flowergirl got a little purse with her initial on it. My mom and mother in law, I gave them little presents instead of flowers. I gave them both framed pressed flowers.

If you are giving roses, colors of roses have meaning. Give your mom one that is red (love) and your step mother yellow (friendship). Other meanings: pink - gratitude and appreciation; light pink - admiration; peach - gratitude; white - reverence, humility, purity.

What does wearing a white dress at your wedding symblolize?

Answer
Nothing whatsoever.

Or, possibly, it symbolize's the bride's susceptability to the lure of fashion, which has mandated the "white wedding dress" for the last half-century at least.

It is true, that it started with Queen Victoria. Before her, queens and princesses wore royal blue and purple and cloth of silver and gold. And it did indeed take a long time to catch on: most brides simply wore their "Sunday Best" dress, and even when they purchased a new "wedding dress" it was often dark-coloured.

It is also true that it did not symbolize purity, but it wasn't about wealth either. In that day every maiden in England who had more than one dress had a white linen or muslin dress. While white does get dirty, in a pre-industrial age it is also relatively easy to clean: you wash it in boiling water with lye soap and bleach it by drying in the sun. Pre-industrial dyes would run and fade when subjected to such harsh treatment. Victoria's white dress was the talk of her subjects, not because it was flamboyant, but because after the excesses of the Regency era it was a fresh breath of simplicity and egalitarianism. It was also an economic and nationalistic statement, since it featured all-British manufacture and flaunted British-made lace in support of the flagging lace industry.

But it may not have been a political statement at all. In her journal, Her Majesty herself merely said that she liked the picturesque appearance of an all-white wedding party. And, the young queen did indeed have exquisite taste.

When during the REGENCY period should I base my story on?

J.Welkin

My story is a rather dark and gothic sort of tale.....but I don't want it to be set in the Victorian era when the Gothic stories usually are set. And I don't want it to be set in the Pride and Prejudice period when everything seemed rather bright and jaunty. Should I set it during the earl 1800s?? Perhaps, 1801?? The fashion is very important....

Answer
I agree. Aim for the turn of the 19th centry. Clothing would have been more of a "Gothic" style then 10 or maybe even 5 years later. The styles of the Revolutionary War could still be seen in the clothes, except the waistline of lady's dresses was starting to rise up the torso, and the hairstyles were still tall wigs (except they were usually natural colors, not white), and men's clothing was much the same as in Revolutionary times, except the hairstyles were changing and sideburns started appearing. I think it's a perfect time for a dark tale to be spun. =)

Q. I'm going to a convention and I might dress up as a girl with purple hair, but I only have a pink wig.

I don't want to destroy the wig, but I want to know how to change the color of the wig without killing it.

It's synthetic if that helps.

I don't want to waste money on anything if it's not going to work, so please don't give me stupid answers.

Halloween stores are closed.

Online costs too much money.

Answer
If it's synthetic then you can't dye it, try spray painting it.

Can you wear two different colours of patent together? Can you wear both a purse and shoes in patent?

Shannon M

I bought a white patent bag to wear with a multi coloured dress and ordered shoes online - they were expensive shoes and they are horrible - so now I need to get some new ones...but I'm wondering if I have to keep them white or if I could wear red patent with the white patent bag...or change it up?!

Answer
I wouldn't wear patent shoes if you have a patent bag
And you don't have to stick with white for the shoes
Pick one of the colors in the dress and wear that color in the shoe

How many sizes down can I alter my wedding gown?

Ok here's the deal I am to be given my wedding gown as a gift, it is a size 16, I am not sure what size that is in street clothes. I am a size 9 in street clothes. Can I alter it down to my size without losing the over all look?

Answer
There are a few factors involved in sizing down the gown. Firstly, you really need to know exactly how big it is, so you should probably go to a bridal store, knowing the designer of the gown and have them measure you so they can tell you what size you are according to that designer. (Some designers run small in sizing, some run VERY small; I am a size 2 and I was a size 2-6 in wedding gowns depending on the designer.)

Secondly, the ability to size down a gown greatly depends on the style and construction of the gown. Some gowns are made from very delicate materials that mark and get runs in them easily, so taking the dress apart at the seams can cause damage to the fabric that might be noticeable. Some dresses with a lot of beading might be definitely abel to come in 2 dress sizes, but it might cost a lot of money to have the beading repaired after the dress is taken in. Things like overlays and where the seams are on a dress can also affect how small a dress can go.

In general, taking in a dress more than 2 sizes will change the shape of the dress enough that it can majorly affect the overall style of the gown (i.e. it won't look the same). That's not necessarily a bad thing, looking different than the original might not mean looking worse. But your best bet is to get your hands on the actual dress so you can try it on and see just how big it is on you. One or two inches on either side might not be a big deal, or affect the overall style of the gown, but again, it depends on how the dress is made.

Once you can try on the gown, take it to a local bridal shop with good recommendation for getting alternations done on time and with good quality. They will for sure be able to tell you within a few minutes of trying it on for them, what is possible. Again, taking it in too many sizes might "ruin" the look of the dress, but a really creative and talented seamstress might be able to turn it into something different and perfect for you and your size.

Good Luck!

What does it mean to dream of wearing someone elses wedding gown?

Innocen

I had a dream my aunt was getting married (whom I am also very good friends with), and she was walking with her wedding gown and I just thought it was so beautiful so I asked her if I could put it on to see how it looked and walk with it for a while. So I did. What could this mean? It was her party, but I wore the gown for a while too.

Answer
Perhaps you look up to this aunt and would like to also share the goods things that happen to her. A wedding gown is a good symbol.
