HOMECOMING DRESS HELP!!!?

.Jesus.Fre

Homecoming is in about a month and I'm trying to get everything together. I have a black, shapeless dress with black roses across the neckline. I want to look feminine, but I also want to keep my hardcore rocker edge. I have medium length brown hair and very fair colored skin. I'm 5'6 1/2 inches tall and have an hourglass figure. Any ideas for accessories, shoes and anything else that would complete my look? Makeup ideas would be great, too. Thanks (:
The dress is sleeveless btw.

Answer
You should were your dress with a cute belt tight around your waist so you look nice and not too much like a blob(you might want to make that a solid color besides black, to add a little color). Also you should add some punk accessories like a skull crossbones necklace ( go with simple, it looks cuter that way) and same earrings. I have no idea for make up because i don't use it. Your shoes are up to you. If you want it to be more feminine, go with (if you have some) Silver heels or gladiators. If you want the punk look, where riding boots or combat boots or something of that nature. I hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!

What colored bridesmaid dress would go great with tea rose sash on wedding dress?

CJ Baby's

My first idea was to have royal blue in my wedding but I found a gorgeous dress that already had a colored sash sewn in it. It is a alfred angelo 2024 dress with tea rose colored sash. I was wondering what colored bridesmaid dresses would go with it and what color flowers/flowers would go with it. Tea rose is a pretty pink, but not all pinks will go with this dress. Ideas please?

Answer
hi, i think the alfred angelo bridesmaid dress 6133,6473 & 6132 showing the match colors , it will be great !

Wedding rules, is this dress inappropriate?

LeeLee

This dress was a gift from my boyfriend, and it's so beautiful. I fell in love right when I saw it. He would like me to wear it to a wedding we have coming up next month, it's an outdoor, very romantic slightly extravagant wedding. Would it be horribly inappropriate? I haven't been to many weddings, so all the feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Sorry about that! Here is the correct dress :)

Answer
I too only got a google search of a bunch of dresses. However, I think there are a couple of there that could be worn to a very fancy wedding, especially if it were a Chaldean wedding. Those are the types of dresses I see young women wear to such weddings all the time. So, yes, if the dress code calls for it, and you are a young woman (I don't want to see any of these dresses on a 50 year old no matter what the dress code is), they might be okay to wear. Ask around as to what other women your age are wearing. As I bride, I would not be mad if someone wore any of these to my wedding. In fact, I wouldn't even notice.

What is the general rule re: wedding/bridesmaid dresses?

theartistt

My sister will be having a long wedding dress at a destination wedding. Is a short maid of honor dress ok with a long wedding gown or does it have to be long too? What are the rules about that kind of thing?

Answer
The general rule is that the bridesmaids' dresses should not be shorter than the next "conventional" length. What that means is if the bride wears a long dress, the bridesmaids' dresses should not be shorter than short tea length, which is low-calf length. If the bride wears a dress which is low-calf length, then the attendants can wear one as short as below the knee. Basically, the bride's dress should always be longer than that of the attendants, unless the bride chooses to have the attendants wear floor length, which usually happens at formal weddings where the bride's dress is technically longer because it often has a train.

There are a lot of hemline styles, but for fancy dresses, they can basically be broken down into four categories: above knee (which is generally no shorter than about 2 inches above the top of the knee); below knee, which can be anywhere below the knee to the high-calf area; low-calf area to tea length (tea length is about 2-3 inches above the ankle); and long, which means ankles covered and longer.

As for color, it can be anything but the color of the bride's dress. If she wears white or ivory, then those are out for the attendants. If she wears a color, the attendants should wear a different color. The old thing about pastels went in the garbage years ago, and brights or deep colors are perfectly acceptable.

The top of the attendants' dresses can be anything from strapless to long-sleeved--it's the bride's choice.

I know at some destination weddings the bride chooses to go barefoot, especially if it's on a beach. Traditional etiquette dictates attendants wear shoes. Stockings or hose are optional, but if the dresses are fairly fancy, then stockings or hose are usually recommended.

Now that I have told you the conventional rules, you need to know one more thing. It's the bride's day, and the most important thing is that she have what she wants. If that means attendants in mini skirts with leather bustiers, so be it.

Wedding Attire Etiquette?

Sarah

I'm going to a Sunday afternoon wedding in April. It is in south Florida at a hotel on the water. I found a dress today that I initially thought would be perfect. It is a knee length dress with a beautiful, vintage silhouette. The color is a very very pale peach (bordering on ivory) with subtle gold leopard print in the material. The dress isn't "bride" looking at all... but after thinking about it, I wonder if the light color is too close to white to be appropriate.

Opinions please...
Is very very pale peach with subtle gold print all through the fabric ok to wear to a wedding?

Answer
The dress sounds gorgeous, but sadly I wouldn't recommend it for a wedding. Up close, the subtle peach and gold tones might be visable, but from more than a few feet away it's going to look like you're wearing an ivory dress. Also, you don't know exactly what the bride will be wearing, and if she chose an ivory dress instead of bright white, then your choice is going to look even more like a faux pas. The bride might not be pleased, either. You can still wear pale colors, but I suggest looking for something with a slightly more obvious color in it just to avoid any confusion. Then you can either return the original dress or save it for another special occasion! Good luck!

A good friend of mine is getting married. I have a bridesmaids dress that is a wine color, from standing up in another friends wedding, (cost $150). The colors of my friends getting married is deep red. My boyfriend is the best man. Would it be bad if I wore my dress to the wedding? Seeing that the colors are very close? I would like to have a picture of my boyfriend and I matching, even though I am not standing up in the wedding. I also hate the fact that I have this beautiful dress, that cost alot and I only wore once.
The dress is in 2 pieces. (3 if you include the shawl)
A corset top with beautiful beading. and a satin A line skirt. very different than what the girls will be wearing. Although, I am not standing up in the wedding. I am helping out alot for them. The groom to be is one of my bestfriends as well as my boyfriend, and I became good friend with his fiancee since they've been dating.
Oh yeah, The wedding is in November. The ceremony and the reception are being done back to back at the same hall.

Answer
If I were you, I would simply take the time to call the bride, and ask her if she minds that a dress you'd like to wear to her wedding happens to be a close color to that of her bridesmaids dresses. Most likely she won't mind, but if she does, don't take offense... simply accept whatever she says. You can probably wear that dress again to another function soon anyway.

where can I find plus size gowns in Houston, TX?

nancy g

Answer
David's Bridal is a great place to find plus size wedding gowns. Not only can you find a nice variety of sizes, but also a good variety of styles. Watch out though, their alteration prices are astronomical. Last year, I was a bridesmaid in my friends wedding. The only thing I needed altered was the hem, and it cost me almost $100.

i am looking for cheap wedding ball gowns plus size in ks?

Diana

Answer
Many designers now create beautiful dresses for plus sized brided.

The biggest selection is from David's Bridal.

One thing I will mention though since I was once plus sized myself is when you go to bridal shops when you make the appointments be sure to ask if they will have dresses you can actually try on! When my brothers wife (who is also plus sized) was shopping for her wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses, there were very few we could actually try on just "dresses similar".

I'd recommend to browse dresses on http://theknot.com many of the designers have plus sized dresses.

Also try on many different dresses, you may find some look great on you that you'd never consider.

Plus SIze Wedding Reception Dress?

jamitha99

I have already purchased my wedding gown but do not feel like spending 10 hours in a 50 pound dress. I am looking for a website that sells formal, tea length dresses under $100. Most of the ones I find are $150-200. I already spent $600 on my gown. Any ideas are much appreciated!!
I have alredy tried Lane Bryant, Roamans, Lerner, Catherines, Just My Size, Sears, JC Penny, Jessica London
Most of these have more of a casual type dress.

Answer
Ok well I know this first one is slightly more then $100, but it appears that you can get it in plus sizes, a multitude of colors, and its a simple, classy design:
http://www.modernbridalshop.com/bieusatedrbr.html
http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_detail.jsp?stid=2679&prodgroup=110
(again a bit more but does go up to plus sizes.)
http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_detail.jsp?stid=1674&prodgroup=110
http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_detail.jsp?stid=1652&prodgroup=110
(under a $100, various colors and plus sizes, and its not casual looking either.)
David's Bridal always has great sales too, the best thing is to look around, sometimes Dillard's and Macy's have great sales. I hope this helps you some, good luck. Have a great wedding!!

does anyone know any wedding dress tailors in california preferably riverside county or inland empire?

Jaydens mo

well i bought a wedding dress online at davids bridal and it does not fit. it is a size 4 and i think the size 2 would have fit perfect but they didnt have a size 2 so i ordered the size 4 buts to big. its going to need to be hemmed and put in in and the halter strap is also big plus i wanted a bustle on it i got the dress on sale for 250 and i called davids bridal they charge about 20 for a bustle 30 for hemming 75 or more to put it in i just never thought getting the dress tailored would cost so much its going to be a small wedding so i im just not sure i love the dress but should i just return it? im guessing all together the tailoring might come out two 150 to 200 it is a lace mermaid dress with beading!!! i love it but i just dont want to spend an extra 200 on it. now im thinking of returning it and getting something that fits but the truth is there is nothing like this dress for 250 the original price was 700 and they only had a size 4! im so sad im getting married in 6 weeks so it just really sux! so if anyone knows a tailor around here that does a great job and under 150 please help me out thanks.

Answer
Why don't you call Davids Bridal and tell them that your ordered the wrong size, and that you need a smaller size. As a popular well known bridal shop, I am sure they would try to accommodate you. If not, you will have to have the dress taken in by a seamstress. Look them up on the internet in your area and see if they will help fit the dress to you for less than it would cost to send the dress back to Davids (shipping and handling will be added on to the price of the dress AND the actual price of the dress). Sometimes the things we think are bargains turn out to be the worst of choices. Good luck.

Question about wedding colors and bridesmaids dresses?

phatchick1

I'm getting married in February of next year and my wedding colors are lavender and mint green. I'm having four bridesmaids and I was wondering how I should incorporate the wedding colors into the bridesmaids dresses. I wanted to let my bridesmaids be able to choose their own dresses, I would just tell them what color they had to be. But I don't know if maybe I should pick two styles, one in lavender and one in mint green, and have two girls wear the same dress and the same color, or just pick one color and have the girls pick what style they want. Please help! :-)
I'm not going to have a MOH, they're all Bridesmaids.

Answer
Always have your BM in the same color dresses an different styles are optional. With these colors I would go with one color as base and accent with the other color. Ex. lavender dresses with mint hair accessories. Just be very careful with these colors so the wedding will come off classy. I would suggest using a neutral color for your base color, silver, creme or ivory and use the lavender and mint to accent. Hope all goes well.

tattoos and wedding gowns ??

Onega

ok, so i'm not planning to get married anytime soon ( haha only 18 and single), but i am planning on getting a sleeve real soon . I just wondered , how did ladies handle lots of ink on their wedding day ? did you put make up on it , wear something to hide it or show it proudly ?

i don't want to hide mine, i love my ink, but i just wondered if it could harm the perfectness of the day with everyone staring at it , or making bad comments, or being reluctant to take picture or something ?

i'm certainly not stopping to get my ink because of that, i just wondered.

cheers!

Answer
Hey Onega.

I love this question. I have a sleeve in progress (started in my 30s) so my skin was ink-free on my big day in my late 20s.

I dream about renewing our vows so we can do it all over again but showing off my beautiful ink.

Yeah - when you get around to tying the knot it is likely that there'll be people at the ceremony that disapprove of your tattoos, but it shouldn't ruin your day.

I mean, there are lots of people in society that disapprove of tattoos but if I come across them I never let it get me down. I just think 'Everyone to their own' and 'You can't please everyone'. Or 'If they don't like it - tough crap!' Obviously you'd be the same, so you should easily be able to carry this through on your future wedding day too.

And if anyone has the nerve to make rude remarks about a bride's ink on her wedding day then they are scumbags in my opinion. If someone is out to cause grief for a bride on her big day, they will find some way to do it whether she has ink or not. The best approach is to treat it like water off a duck's back. It can only upset you if you allow it to.

If you get yourself some art work to be proud of I'm sure you'll feel the same way as I do about mine. I welcome people to stare at my ink, whatever their opinion. That's what being a walking work of art is all about.

I pretty much expect the nudges, stares and whispers wherever I go with my ink out, but I think in general people are mainly just curious and don't dare to ask outright.

I also have heavily inked friends and family that looked fantastic on their wedding days, their guests ranged from heavily tattooed to tattoo-free and as far as I know they didn't get any bother.

Good luck with your sleeve.

i need mad help with my wedding colors.i hav no idea what to do!
i want a a kind of blue and i really want to have silver.
who do i dress with what color?and and how do i mak the colors mesh well together?

Answer
Easy...both are great colors by the way! (I am getting married in December). If you are having a spring/summer wedding opt for a lighter blue like a pastel or teal or maybe even a royal blue. If fall or winter try a darker deeper blue like navy or blue/green. A great idea would be to do blue solid dress with a silver sash around the waist(that is really popular now) and have the mothers wear silver dresses. THe men in tuxes or suits with blue ties and the dads in with silver ties or both with a patterned tie that has both colors.
Hope this helps!

Colored wedding dresses?

My SO and I are compromising: he wants to see me in white, I like color, so... I'm looking for mostly white dresses with colored accents (sashes, underskirts, trim). I prefer blue or green. All I can find is either plain white/cream or completely colored bridesmaid-type dresses. Anyone know where I might find a white, traditional-styled dress with colored accents?

Answer
David's Bridal, Alfred Angelo and others offer some good deals on dresses with color accents. They offer white dresses and the accents can be changed to whatever color you want. good luck

Planning a Wedding on a very low budget!?

Q. My Fiancee and I are planning to get married about a year from now, December 4th 2010. I am in my last year of college and I graduate in may he is the only one really bringing in any money to the home seeing as I only have a part time job on campus. We have about 5000 Dollars to spend on the wedding but everywhere we look at is extremley expensive. I've tried websites that send information on things like venues and photographers but the totals still come out over our budget. I live in Connecticut and would appreciate any suggestions to places or suggetions on how to do this within our budget. Also my mother is buying my dress as a gift to me so that is not to worry about. Please help I would appreciate it greatly.
The guest list is about 100, and we both come from very bid italians families so cutting down the list would be a huge no-no.

Answer
A $100 wedding. This Bride and Groom could have had any type of wedding that they wanted but they wanted something "short and simple." They rented a gazebo in a community park (one-half day rental). Over 150 people were invited to the May wedding. The ceremony took place at 1030AM on a Saturday morning just as the trees were beginning to bloom. The Bride did not wear a gown (she wore a simple white sundress) and the Groom did not wear a tuxedo (he wore navy blue sports jacket and gray slacks). There were no bridesmaids nor groomsmen nor a flower girl. After the fifteen minute ceremony they jumped into their new corvette and drove away. By 8PM that evening they were sipping tropical drinks at their honeymoon destination. This wedding cost one hundred dollars (gazebo rental and Marriage License).

A wedding that cost less than $2000. This Bride and Groom contacted a well known Bed and Breakfast about fifty miles from their home town. They rented a room for themselves, a room for their Maid of Honor, and a room for their Best Man. The 5PM ceremony took place in the B&B's garden in June. After the ceremony the four people had a catered meal on the B&B's porch. At 9PM that evening they released a large cluster of white balloons after a dessert of wedding cake and champagne. The next morning a catered breakfast was served to the four people on the B&B's porch. The Groom was a professional musician, he sang an original song as a surprise to his Bride during the ceremony, it was beautiful! This couple could have invited "a million and one people" to their wedding but they only wanted their two closest friends. The Bride wore an ornate cocktail dress and the Groom wore a tuxedo. The Maid of Honor wore a simple cocktail dress and the Best Man wore a tuxedo.

If your budget is limited then you need to avoid having a 4PM wedding ceremony and a 5PM reception at a hotel or banquet hall on a Saturday (that's prime time in the wedding world).

No matter what your budget is, the reception is ALWAYS fifty percent of your budget (food, beverages, wedding cake, and entertainment (DJ or band). So here's some options that you may want to consider (and none of them cost $99.95 per person) . .

Get married in the morning and follow that ceremony with a breakfast or brunch. Breakfast is the least expensive FULL MEAL that you can serve your guests PLUS you do not have to serve any alcoholic beverages except for a champagne toast to the Bride and Groom nor do you have to hire a band or DJ at that time of day (most people will leave after the meal). Think waffles, omelets, fresh fruit trays, and orange juice. Follow the meal with fancy cupcakes or wedding cake.

Get married at 1PM or 130PM or 2PM or 230PM. Your guests have already eaten lunch and it is too early for dinner. You can have a "desserts only" reception or just fancy cupcakes, wedding cake, and punch. Your dessert reception can include any (or all) of the following: eclairs, cream puffs, brownies, decorated cookies, assorted pies, root beer floats, mini pastries, an ice cream sundae buffet, fresh fruit, and wedding cake. You may be able to hire a DJ for two hours instead of four hours.

Get married at sunset or after 7PM. Your guests have already eaten dinner so you can serve either lite fare (mini sandwiches and salads) or have a desserts reception with ice cream or sherbet with wedding cake. You may be able to hire a DJ for two hours instead of four hours.

Craig's List is a great way to find wedding vendors and service providers (caterers, wedding cake bakers, photographers, musicians, etc). Some of these people are doing this as their "full time job" and some of them are doing this "as a second income" or hobby. Do not hire the least expensive, you get what you pay for!

Would women rent a wedding gown?

Bree

If so, what would be of most concern. Fit, price, or damage liability? If you would rent a gown, what would you pay...keep in mind the actual retail cost of a new gown that you would purchase as your guideline in determining a fair rental price. What would you feel is fair to charge as a damage and return deposit? What would most concern you about fit?
Keep in mind that you could rent a $1000 gown for $250 to $350...postage paid both ways, no cleaning fee charged and fit was not an issue. Damage such as lipstick, torn train, stains, etc would be charged a nominal fee such as $25 to $75 to repair. Skirts would be available in 3 styles...floorlength ballgown tulle and ballgown satin with train and pencil style in satin. The gowns would be two piece. Bodices and skirts would be mix and match. Professional measurements would be preferred to ensure the best fit. Skirt waists would be stretchable for ease and comfort of fit. Skirts would be available in several lengths and your height measurement - waist to top of toe and waist to heel at floor- in your shoes would be needed for correct length. Bodice style would be of several choices - off the shoulder, long sleeve, strapless. The bodice would best be chosen by bust measurement.

Answer
most women would not rent a wedding gown!
first of all have you considerd that after the wedding day they might like to keep the dress as a reminder of the wedding and what if you spill wine or champagne down the front or back then you have to consider the charge of replaceing the dress and the charge of lending the dress. if you rent a gown you also need to consider fit because if its too tight or far too loose on the day it wont look good in the pictures!

Where can I find a ball gown?

sipplek

My husband and I will attend a formal, white tie Viennese Ball in November 2008. I have several evening gowns, but only one real ball gown, which I wore to an event yesterday, and don't want to wear again in autumn, because these gatherings typically attract the same audience. In short, all the ladies try to have as much attire variety as possible. Where can I find (either online or in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area) a ball gown made for an adult? I am not looking for a prom dress, but a sophisticated gown with a full skirt that permits Viennese waltzing. Oh, and I am not willing to spend thousands of dollars either, so Vera Wang or other designers are not an option. Thank you.

Is there any place to get a Valentino wedding gown that does not cost as much as my wedding?!?!!!?

natal

The gown is called DEBORA and it is from the 2006 collection.

Answer
That dress has real vintage style! Look at some of the dresses on this site, particularly the Nataya dresses - you may find something similar... http://vintagestyleclothing.com/index.html

wedding dress colors (looking for the meanings)?

darkmousyf

So I know white is virginal and pure but what about all the others?
But in Asian countries white is their mourning colors.

So I want to know the colors meanings if anyone knows them.
thanks!

Answer
White did not originally mean "virginal and pure." Check out this one that I answered a while ago, the Best Answer is really useful: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Am1XlTKHkSchplWrvKEZt4rty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090814094829AAXEwxX&show=7#profile-info-RRs744rnaa

Check out this good Snopes article also for a very thorough explanation:

What bridesmaid dress colors go with an off-white antique looking lace wedding gown?

Q. Vibrant colors just don't seem to go well.

Answer
this might sound a bit odd but go down to a hardware store and get some of those paint chips that show you the different colors. put them next to the dress so you can get some inspiration on what colors look good and which ones wont.

from there you can look for dresses in the same color palette.

Sheer Lace Wedding Dress?

Yume

A few years ago I was watching one of the wedding shows, I think it was Amsale girls but I vaguely remember an even older one. They had a sheer lace/Appliqué dress that only covered the spots it needed to and showed skin under. It wasn't trashy, it was very classy and I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know the dress I am talking about or where I could find it? I have truly looked everywhere.

Answer
YES........That dress was custom made.â¥â¥â¥
Find the episode online & show it to your dressmaker.

I't not the kind of dress worn in most traditional weddings but then YOU are not a TRADITIONAL BRIDE, are you.

You sure it was skin showing through or was it a skin coloured lining?
You are gonna need some time to investigate this. Hope you have at least a year before the wedding.

Is this dress ok to wear as a wedding guest to church and the reception?

Willow

Ok this is what I have planned to wear to a wedding next week but I want some opinions on whether or not it's appropriate. is it ok to wear to both the church and reception? not sure about shiny clothes during the day.
With the dress I'll also have tights or stockings and ankle boots. I have the short jacket as well but in black.
The wedding is posh and formal with the girls in dresses and guys in suits.

jacket is in black.

thanks
I'm 20 and the bride to be is around 26

Answer
I think if you are in your late teens/early 20s and this is your style, it will be great. I'm 26 and too old to pull off a trendy look like this, but I definitely don't think it's inappropriate - and I think the pattern on the dress is very cool. Since weddings are fancier than normal occasions, you can do sequins/shine/etc during the day.

I would do black opaque tights to balance the short skirt on the dress since you're going to be in a church.

I have to attend this wedding, and...........?

Q. I didn't hav enough cash to buy myself a new outfit. So, I decided on something simple and elegant that I had, even though I prefer not to dress so blandly. But, I got all the right jewellery to go with it, so I guess, I might look good after all.
But, I came across another outfit which is all colourful and trendy, and totally my type. But, the wedding is today, and the jewellery I have won't really suit the dress.
Now, what do I choose?

And, oh, I got a crazy haircut recently. It's a layered, short haircut that falls jus below my shoulders. The hair is curly and black. What can I do with it?

My skin is light brown and I have black eyes. Could you guide me on my makeup, too?

I am 22 years old.

Thank you so much!

Answer
well I go with the dress that goes with the jewelry and for the make-up I sugest a light shade on your eyes and so little powder on your face , and -if you want- make your hair straight but in eather you will look good . if you wonder why I know these things about make-up , my mom makes exremints on my me , because my mom is jeniffer anistons make-up designer

Bridesmaid Dresses Color?

Crazy...Be

Do you think sunflower Yellow and Clover Green goes well together. I was thinking about using both colors for the Bridesmaid dresses...I don't know if to do 3 green dresses and 3 yellow dresses. Or have the dress itself be 2 colour (yellow and Green) for e.g the dress being yellow and the sash that ties at the back being Green and then have everyone wear the same style....

Answer
I would personally prefer the yellow dress with the green sash with everyone in the same style. I feel like it is more unified and will not be too complicated to look at.

That's exactly what I'm doing for my wedding, except the dresses are pool blue and the sashes are chocolate brown.

But its your wedding so make sure your final decision is the one that you personally like the best!

Good luck and congrads!

Looking for a unique, plus size wedding dress...?

**[Witty_N

Okay, I'm a big girl (from a 20-22 depending where I shop). I'm getting married December 15, 2011.

I'm not delusional, and I know from prior attempts that, chances are, no matter how hard I try, I'm not losing much of that weight, so I'd like to know a site or store that I could check out that has a unique, edgy style (my wedding colors are gonna be white, black, and red).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Congrats!
I had a size 24 gown, with a basque waist - which hides the tummy amazingly well; it's the way the fabric flows -
