Choosing bridesmaid dresses. HELP!?

iDefyGravi

Okay I have 4 bridesmaids. and they all look SO DIFFERENT. none of them are plus-sized, but their complexions and curves are so different. i still have no idea how to find a dress that all of them will feel good in.

bridesmaid #1. Light brown hair, olive skin undertone, 5'11, supermodel body
#2. Natural platinum blonde, yellow skin undertone, square on top, long legs
#3. Natural black hair, blue eyes, pink skin undertone, curvy, but not plus-sized
#4. Chocolate Brunette, very pale skin, 5'2, thin

I'm leaning towards silver/gray for the color... not sure yet.

help please!!
i love these two... what do you guys think?

Answer
color is a HUGE deal. try looking at a champagne color. It looks good on different skin complexions. I have to go to a wedding in September in Vermont and my bridesmaid dress is really light pink and I have really pale skin. I am NOT looking forward to it. a good idea is letting them pick the design. I have to wear a strapless dress. doesn't work on my body type so I'm going to be way uncomfortable. it's important that your bridesmaids are comfortable.

i am having a september wedding, what color dresses should i pick for the bridesmaids?

Q.

Answer
What color do you like? and does a dress you like come in that color?

So, yes, no maybe so? also I have no idea about what tux or suites my groom/groomsmen should wear...
Please keep in mind it it a very simple, casual wedding ceromny actually on the dock where my fiance' proposed, :)
I really don't care that much about the whole thing...he's the one that wants a ceremony and I;d do anything to make him happy :D

so do all those dresses go together and are they simple enough for the wedding I have in mind? thanks :)

Answer
I think:
The bridesmaids' dresses are PERFECT for the occasion. Although, the flower girl's dress is not the same blue as the bridesmaids' dresses. I think you should get the white dress in the same design as the blue one for the flower girl, not the blue dress. Does that make sense?
Bottom line: Order the flower girl's dress in WHITE, not blue.
The dresses would then all fit PERFECTLY together. You are a very good planner; have a nice wedding!

What does a wedding dress color mean?

Clever Nic

I "think" white means virgin, right? So if it's not white does that mean she's had sex? In wedding terms what counts as "sex" ? Like does french kissing count?

What does black, crimson, and dark blue wedding dress mean? Anything?

Also does length of dress and color of tuxedo mean anything?
I gave everyone TU because somebody went crazy giving out TD for each answer.

Answer
Gretchen K got it exactly right. White wasn't intended to represent sexual purity - it was a fashion statement popularized by Queen Victoria, and it showed that the bride's family could afford to send her off in an opulent, impractical gown that she could only wear once (because streets were dirty in those days - after your wedding your gown was going to be toast). As the fashion has stuck around, people started deciding it was about purity. That doesn't really hold any water, though. Many brides wear white simply because they consider it traditional, not to advertise the status of their hymen.

If a bride chooses to wear white, or chooses to wear red or black or blue or whatever, it simply means she likes that color and wants to wear it on her wedding day. It's hard to make generalizations because her choice means something to HER - not some global color symbolism.

Here's a fun fact - many brides in Asian countries wear red on their wedding day, because in their culture red is considered the color of joy.

Answer
Well it's a spring wedding right? So you should stay away from dark colors such as the two gray's you chose. Try more light colors or even floral dresses. Out of the one's you gave us, I say you should go for the second one with some silver heels and light silver jewelry. But maybe you could look for a slightly longer version of the dress you gave. It almost looks like an underslip because of the length.

Here are some other options if you're willing to look:

I need help finding a plus size bridesmaid dress. I know that Alfred Angelo does all plus size in my size and that is where the other girls are getting there dresses so i could get the same color. HOWEVER, I need to know what dresses look good on a bigger person. I wear a size 28 and I don't want to pick out a dress that makes me look like a hippo. I just want to look nice if possible. what kind of dress looks good on a big girl?????

Answer
This article applies to bridesmaids too.
Plus Size Wedding Dresses
From Nina Callaway, Your Guide to Weddings.

Top 5 Tips on Finding the Perfect Plus Size Wedding Dress for You
Finding clothes can be a frustrating experience for any full-figured woman, so it's understanding that the idea of shopping for a plus-size wedding dress is a daunting one. But here are five easy tips to make sure you find the perfect plus-size wedding dress for you.

1. Know your shape. You'll want to find a dress that is best for your figure. An a-line shape is flattering to most curvier figures, as it can skim over hips. Avoid full ballgown skirts as they can add to an overall roundness. A v-neckline on a busty woman can add a beautiful contrasting line. I would also avoid tea-length gowns, as they tend to make women look squatter.

2. Know where to shop You might start out at one of the larger retail chains, like David's Bridal, as they are more likely to have dresses you can try on, rather than trying to imagine how the size eight sample will look on your body. You can also look at department stores, and at designers who specialize in plus-size wedding dresses such as Emme Bridal, Alfred Angelo, Bonny, Mon Cheri, or Allure Bridals. Look at websites such as plussizebridal.com for more ideas.

3. Be comfortable The most beautiful dress won't look so beautiful if you are stressed, or tugging on it. Make sure you can move, talk, and dance in your dress with ease. Consider getting the next size up just to make sure the dress fits you well.

4. Get it tailored No matter what size you are, look your best on your wedding day by getting your wedding dress altered to fit you personally. Subtle differences in how a garment fits you can make worlds of difference in other's perception of you, and in your own confidence.

5. Don't be afraid to break the rules In the end, it's your wedding dress. You need to love it, regardless of what the roles are. Furthermore, much advice on plus-size wedding dresses focuses on disguising your figure, but a curvaceous body is something to celebrate, not hide. When a wedding dress sings you to you, then that's the one to buy, regardless of the rules.

wedding colors...?

kel

i'm planning my wedding for 9/20/08 and although i have enough time, i cant get anything else done until i figure out what colors i want to use! i really want something trendy or unique. i was thinking like a chocolate brown and a rosey pink but now i'm nervous about using brown and having black tuxes. All i know that the last thing that i want is to see another wedding that is red, sage, or purple.... help!!

Answer
Black tuxes and brown dresses look very nice together. I was just in a wedding that had that color scheme. The men had brown vests and ascots to highlight the color choice. Think about the different tones of chocolate(dark, milk-chocolate, etc) when you look at brown and black together as a combination. The colors you picked out (choco and pink) are very trendy. Make sure that the shoes match the color scheme though (you can have pink shoes, or gold, or bronze to play up those tones of brown). Brown and blue are very trendy as well and it also goes with black tuxes. You can also tell the tux rental place about your color palette for the wedding party and they can give you their input for the right color choice of tux.

Wedding colour scheme for winter?

KnightLigh

What do you think about this colour scheme for a wedding in October? Cream for wedding dress, latte colour for bridesmaids, and chocolate brown for men's suits. THese would also be the colours for the reception decorations. Also what flowers shouls I have with this colour scheme? I was thinking roses, cream for me, what colour for bridesmaids?
Oops, oh yes, originally thought it was going to be in December which is why I have a winter wedding stuck in my head!
I am aware that brown suits does sound very seventies, however I am not going for a look like this: http://www.zootsuitstore.com/Shopping/assets/thumbnails/stacysuit7013sm.jpg,

But more like this: http://www.savviformalwear.com/images/gallery/gallery/full/choc-infin-big.jpg

which looks great.

Answer
When I was married in the early 70's, my dress was Cream, and the men's suits were Latte, with chocolate Brown trim !!!
My bridesmaids were the same dress in tones of green and rust. My advice to you is: You should have your wedding in any color scheme that is pleasing to you, so when you settle on a final choice, Go for it!!

If you decide to go with Creme and Browns, remember these are Neutral-or background colors, so you will need something else to give life to the visual experience.
Your flowers can be creme, yet make the bridesmaids full of color-meaning one strong color for all of them or mixed colors; the decorations trimming out the reception should echo the colors of your girls flowers, and add alot of green leafy trim with the decorations, so it won't look drab.

You can take a length of fabric, the same color as the guys suits, and the girls dressed with you when you go to the florist and set the different selections on them, then...this is important...walk across the room and look at them from a distance. Up close most anything will look good if the florist does good work, yet by stepping back you can see if the flowers blend in to the latte dress behind them, or if they bring it to life. It's an old interior decorating trick.

Congrads, and much luck,
The Garden Lady

I need help finding a plus sized wedding dress that I dont need to wait 12 weeks for?

I'm getting married in a couple months and have not had any luck finding a plus sized dress... anything in white or ivory is worth looking at... I like casual and formal ones too. I have looked on ebay and no luck with anything within my budget and that I like. I want to spend less than $200 but can spend up to $500.

Thanks!

plus size wedding dress question in dsm iowa?

rosewalker

I am trying to find a less expensive wedding dress in des moines iowa. We are paying for the dress ourselves as well as the whole wedding so we cant afford 700-800 bucks.

Answer
Hey!

Have you tried Davids Bridal? Also, I know it's not actually IN Des Moines but you can try ebay. I know it sounds crazy but what happens is dress makers normally located in Asia start up these ebay stores to make extra money on the sides and only charge like $100 for the whole dress. They make replicas of designer top end gowns for 100 bucks! The shipping is a little expensive but you are not going to spend anywhere near $500 for a gown on there! They look really nice too. Sense they are custom you just go to a prof. seamstress to get your measurements - maybe Shaffer's downtown or Weddings by design (mapquest them in Des moines) they'll do it for free and then you email them to your dress maker. They will make it custom fitted for your body. There just aren't a ton of bridal shops in Des moines that aren't oober expensive. I went into Shaffer's when I was looking and about died at the $10,000 price tag on one gown! That's NUTS! lol

P.S. if you didn't already figure it out I'm from Iowa. Grew up in Newton my whole life and flying back to get married at Embassy Suites on the river! Good luck finding your perfect dress and congratulations!!!!

What is a good wedding dress color?

My cousin is getting married and she wanted me to post and ask what would be a good idea for a non white/off white wedding dress. She is not a virgin and most people know this and she doesn't want to lie. Anyway, she wants some fashionable ideas with links or pictures thank you for any info.

Answer
Non white dresses are very poplular right now. I, myself, am wearing a "gold" Maggie Sottero dress. And it is very popular to have a white (or ivory) dress with a different color on it.

Does wearing a white wedding dress implies "sexual purity", although most brides arent virgins?

I like tac

This confuses me.
Brides wear white, but white's suppossed to mean your a virgin. So what's the significance of a "white" wedding dress?

Answer
It has nothing to do with "purity". English Queen Victoria was the first woman to wear a pure white dress for her wedding. That is why all brides now wear white dresses because everyone wanted to copy her after her wedding! Before her wedding women wore any color dress but not white. She was the first to make wearing a white dress as a wedding dress fashionable.

Wedding Dress Website??? www.theperfectoutfit.com.au?

maria11111

It has heaps of wedding and bridesmaid dresses at fantastic prices. I spoke to the lady Leah who owns the site and she is awesome really helpful and informative. There is not a dress over $500.00. And they make it to fit you and dont charge you extra for material, usually if you are a size 18 + they charge you extra for material, as I am a bigger size.

I wanted to check around before i made the finally decision, does anyone know of any websites like this that only deal with in Australia and are at these prices? I like the local service

Answer
Where about in Australia are you? There is a website www.bargainbridalgownsonline.com they service worldwide but most of their customers are within Australia and if your near Toowoomba QLD they even welcome brides to come in and try on their gowns!

They source their dresses from liquidation sales and can sell them on for great prices. New dresses are always being added and old ones removed from the site.

Q. I need makeup and hair tips. Outfit ideas too. For V-Day at my school. It can't be really sexy 'cuz, like I said, I'm at school and there's a dress code. Lol. Help much appreciated.

Answer
Ha. you know i`ve been thinking about the same thing too - what to wear on valentines day. But i think you should keeep it simple, but cute ..

wear like a solid color top (long sleeve/tunic/short sleeve & a cardigan on top or a cute jacket/sweater/etc.) & a cute jean. with cute accesories that pull the look together. flats, maybe boots if you want. wear your hair wavy, not curled soo it looks like you didn`t try too hard & just wear like eyeshadow and curl your eyelashes, no mascara.

you can still look cute without looking you tried too hard & without spending a lot of time in getting raedy.

Please answer this is important for valentines day!!!?

For valentines day my boyfriend is taking me to a steak house and it says teh dress code is upscale casual...what would be appropriate for this?

Answer
Dark skinny jeans, black pumps/flats, flowy shirt, black purse :)
ta-da, this is my favorite semi-casual outfit :)

Also the shirt can be whatever colour, with the darkness of the jeans&accessories you could wear a bright red shirt!! :D

Good luck

What color were wedding dresses before the Victorian's set the stage for white dresses?

dress color to wear to wedding

dress color to wear to wedding image

omg4pink

Before Queen Victoria wore her White wedding dress and set the stage..
what were popular wedding dress colors? in the early 1800s? 1700s? and even 1600s?

Answer
"...prior to the Victorian era, a bride was married in any color, black being especially popular in Scandinavia."

"Brides from wealthy families often wore rich colors and exclusive fabrics. It was common to see them wearing bold colors and layers of furs, velvet and silk." That was during or after the Middle Ages.

Hope that answers your question :]

What color dress should I wear to a formal classy wedding?

Jennifer

I have a wedding to go to, it's going to be semi formal attire. It's going to be pretty small and classy but not too formal. I have this pretty black dress and a scarf to wear with it which is also black with silver sparkles in it. Is this a good color to wear at the wedding or should I go with another color she told me ( the bride) I don't have to wear a specific color but I want to make sure it's a good idea to wear black before I go. Thanks

Answer
Yes Your wedding dress idea is right but it also Depends on the time of day and the season. If the wedding is an afternoon wedding you would wear a less formal dress than you would wear in the evening. An evening wedding is a dressy event so you want a dressy dress. A little black dress with a nice heel and accessories usually works well. For an afternoon wedding a pretty dress is usually nice. Never wear white, that is for the bride. If you are related to the bride you could find out the colors of her wedding and wear a shade of her principle colors. If it is a spring afternoon wedding a nice sundress works well. Just be sure you don't expose too much and try to look stylish and classic in what you wear.

Q. I am planning a wedding and need to find a photographer to take the pictures I am on a tight budget. I would like to find someone to take the photos with a good digital camera and load them to a cd and the bride and groom will print them out ! If any one could help please let me know ! Email me or Instan message me at edearp06@yahoo.com Thanks

Answer
Yes they all travel. Most are willing to go within 2 hours which would mean you'd have access to all the Charlotte photographers as well as Winston Salem more than likely.

You did mean Hickory, NC right?

Just go to a bridal show and consult with some of the vendors. Get recommedations. My photographer had switched to children's photography but was still willing to do my wedding. Get your picture taken at Sears, Walmart, Galmour shots one of those photo places. If you like the work--many of those photographers take part time gigs like wedding photography for extra cash. Plus they are very negotiable. In photography you pay for the name so if you are on a tight budget someone like that would be able to have a cheaper rate.

Ask around. I went to several boutiques when trying on wedding gowns--they all had business cards out for people they'd worked with in the past. I asked my parent's coworkers (which is the photographer I used). The knot isn't going to have any listings for you--those people are usually in the 4-5 grand range. And if you used the word "tight" to describe your budget, I doubt you have 4,000 laying around.

Negotiate for the negatives. Thats what I did. I paid about $2,500 and she gave me my album, mothers album, all the proofs and a cd with the negatives. Also consider table cameras. I used those and was shocked at how well they came out. I ordered them off the knot on sale for about $4 each and had people take pictures of people at their table. Then when you develop them yourself, you don't have to pay for the blank shots/shots that don't come out.

I have really dark brown, pretty much black hair, blue eyes, and extremely fair skin in the winter time, but do get tan in the summer. What dress colors should I look for? Thank you!

Answer
I think you'd look good in silvers, blues, and greys. But you have a really pretty, unusual combination, so you'd probably be able to pull off any color! I just think stay away from red, it might look kinda dark with black hair and pale skin.

What dress color would go with my skin tone and hair color?

Kayla Benn

I have pale skin and dark brown hair with green eyes and I was wondering what dress color would go well with all of that. I want something that might bring out my eyes and not make my skin look too pasty! I really like red but I'm unsure! Thanks for the help!

At my school we are having a dance for valentine's day . I wan to know what type of makeup I should use and the type of jewelry and how I should wear my hair . My dress' main color is white and it has blue glittery patterns here and there. It has thick blue silk straps and has the same fabric type at the bottom and at the bottom of the dress it has the uneven type of thing . I am white with layered brown hair and dark blue eyes .

Answer
Your dress sounds pretty(:
Well...maybe a light blue or a light silver.
I would just wear some diamond earrings and maybe a matching necklace.
Nothing too gaudy, like clunky. If you know what I mean. Haha. I think you should just leave your hair down. I don't really know because I can't see what it looks like exactly. Hope I helped!

How do I politely tell my bridemaids (as well as the parents of the ring bearers and flower girls) which dresses to buy? Are there any etiquette standards for this?

Answer
personally, i think u shud let the bridesmaids pick their own dresses, but u can specify it to the colour and texture/material of the dress. i know this because my friend had a wedding and she got us (her bridesmaids) to where the same dress, but one of the bridesmaids, well... lets say she was a little 'plump' and the dress looked BAD BAD BAD. my 'plump' friend cried and cried in secret before the wedding of embarssment. its ur wedding, just tell them u want green and u want it in silk, or something like that. if u have THOSE kind of friends, than u can even mention 'at the knee level (or lower) and no shorter, if u want.

can a sister of the groom wear the same color dress that is one of the colors of the wedding party?

terrible_l

My brother is getting married and the bridesmaids are wearing brown and the flower girls are wearing brown and pink. I like myself best in brown or black and dont want to wear black to the wedding. Is it poor etiquette to wear a brown dress to the wedding.

Answer
No, it's rude to wear black* to a wedding or to wear the same colours as the bridal party (unless it's obviously different, E.g. patterns and cut).

* Black is for funerals or for after 5 parties.

My boyfriend proposed to me last month and we are planning to have our wedding in October. I really like a strapless lace wedding dress on boncyboutique.com. When I saw this gown, I just knew this dress was the one for me! But I don't know whether the size I choose can fit me perfectly after I receive it. Or do I need to measture my own size and customize my dress?

Answer
If you don'g wear plus-size clothes, the size should be fit after you choose the US size and after you receive the wedding dress, you can have a tailor to make small changes for you.

Of course you can customize your dress, the size, the neckline, the train and anything you want. You need to contact the customer service and tell them what you want. They will give a quotation, which is affordable and reasonable. Hope you can get your beautiful dress you want.

I once bought a prom dress from boncyboutique.com and it perfect fit me when I received it. Gorgeous quality and price overall.
Good luck for you!

Do my bridesmaid gowns need to be similar to my wedding gown?

Movinup

I am having trouble finding bridesmaid gowns! Do they need to be similar to the style of my dress? Mine is all over lace on top of satin with side rouching.

Answer
nope and they don't even have to be like eachother either. I just said to my gals "Pick a dress style that flatters you in this color." That worked the best for us because I had one gal that wore tall sizes, another that wore plus sizes, one that was average, and one that was size zero.

If you go that route best to pick a color that is easy to match or go to a salon that offers many styles of dresses that can be cut from the same dye lot of fabric.

My bridesmaids were so happy and just as beautiful as I was! My pictures are gorgeous!

We are having our wedding in South America and guests are already paying for their own tickets. We are all graduate students - should I also ask the girls to pay for their own dresses?!?

Answer
Most bridesmaids already assume they are paying for their dresses unless told otherwise. If you think it may be a problem, you can offer to pay part of the dress fee, or allow them to choose matching colors on their own. If you are well off you can provide it for them, but like i said, for the most part they know it is a part of being a bridesmaid.

Answer
If you want to get married at a venue or do a location wedding ? The venue usually has people that they contract with to perform the ceremony.

If you want to get married in a Church ? It is not as difficult as you would imagine. We got married in a Church where we were not members. My husband used a Priest from his childhood & we also used the Priest from the Church (Episcopalian). Just pick a nice Church, call them up, & see what their "rules" are. Some Churches want you to go to premarital counseling sessions (which is what we did & it helped a lot).

I suggest a long engagement (at least a year) & this is not about your age or your maturity level or anything.

For two reasons that I can think of: this is a special time to be enjoyed together, & it takes about a year to plan a wedding.

I will list my ever present checklists below to help you out. You can look at them all, & then make a master list of the things you do & do not want, & what fits into your budget (which is the first thing you should establish). This way you will know it in advance, & do a guest list (approximate) & know the type of venue (which is just a fancy way of saying the location of the wedding & of the reception), the size, any bridal / marriage packages, d.j., orchestra, flowers, services, size of the wedding, wedding planning specialists (or is it a do-it-yourself).

Bridal magazines will help (along with sites below), re: size of wedding, formal, informal, type of reception, fabrics, price of a wedding planner, etc., (all of which will be determined by your budget), colors (either seasonal or your favorite colors), etc.

Checklists:

http://www.weddingwire.com/wedding/UserMâ¦

http://www.wedding-planning-guide.net/weâ¦

http://www.weddingmapper.com (this one sets up your own site)

http://www.theknot.com (Good checklists in abundance, & a great site for lots of good wedding "stuff", a color palette & a budget application, also can click on wedding colors & put in any color or color combo - lots of color inspiration boards)

http://www.frugalbride.com/weddingplanni⦠(Note: this one has a mistake, you are not responsible for the attire of the bridesmaids nor the Mothers)

Some other helpful sites worth looking at:

http://www.myweddingmusic.com (all traditional wedding music, listed by category)

http://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-songs (A great blend of many types of music, can click on most & watch video, some; however, only have lyrics)

http://discjockeys.com (Top 200 most requested dance songs)

I will list some of what I call my good "do all" sites. I think I can list two more up here & then have to go below to source box. Yahoo only lets you post ten - yikes !

http://www.weddingmountain.com

http://www.save-on-crafts.com (this is not just a craft site, has lots, lots of wedding stuff, eiffel tower vases & lots of natural wood branches & much more)

Before listing other sites - your dress, is, of course, your choice. I suggest from experience on this site, take only your Mom & Maid of Honor (MOH). Do not take your future Mother in Law (MIL) & no bridesmaids - too many opinions only lead to confusion, & you want to be able to concentrate & take the salesperson's advice (they usually know what they are talking about).

Bridesmaids - pick friends. A family member from his side of the family is nice, but not necessary.

A good book that I use when I need to refer to a question on wedding etiquette - & I think it is worth buying a copy for reference (just me): "The Definitive Guide to Your Wedding Experience" by Peggy Post (great grand daughter in law of the late Emily Post). She is considered the foremost & most well known source of etiquette, especially wedding etiquette.

Make sure you get a manicure, pedicure, hair & makeup appointments.

Two other things that you don't hear lots about:

In your spare time, if you have any or get your MOH to do it - make an emergency kit for day of wedding. It should contain thread, needles, scissors, charged cell phone, list of vendors numbers & emails, aspirin, Tylenol, tums, etc. It is best to be prepared.

Make sure you make yourself eat something the day of the wedding.

Go online & find a good name change kit that includes all of the necessary forms for your state (this is good to put on gift registries).

Lastly, do not ask for money in any way, shape or form - unless it is a custom of your nationality. Bad, bad. Shower invitations should ONLY contain gift registries.

I love this site & love to answer questions on here. When I answer a new bride to be, I try to give as much information as I can. It is a first start for you - I try to throw in as much data as possible. Good luck & keep posting & asking questions. This should get you started, if not confused. HAVE FUN, do not stress out. Chill out & enjoy.

We control our own destiny.

...Only love is real.

Peace

It's from the 1970's. That style of dress was very popular for prom dresses and bridesmaid dresses, part of the 70's fascination with Edwardian elegance. It's a lovely dress!

What kind of heela should I wear?

Chirisquis

I have an upcoming to trip to Las Vegas and I bought this really cute dress but have no idea what kind of shoes or color of ahoes I should wear. The dress is a rose gold color, strapless, with sequins, low cut, mini dress. I'm wearing a white coat with it. Any suggestions? Also what are your suggestions on jewelry if I'm wearing a rose gold watch along with this.

Answer
There will be a lot of walking involved. Make sure that any shoes are comfortable enough for this. Also, expect the weather to be chilly especially in the evenings. We just had about three days of near constant rain so plan for the weather to be wonky as well. You are also opening yourself up to hotel room theft if you bring lots of expensive jewelry. Keep it simple. A simple gold necklace and gold heels would be nice. However, unless you are clubbing or going to a fancy restaurant your efforts will go unnoticed. Las Vegas is a very casual city.

Lola

Im doing a project on Italian marriages, and I was wondering who pays for the wedding plans? Does the groom or the bride pay for it? Or is there a specific amount that each person is responsible for?

Answer
Italian Wedding Traditions

Getting married in Italy

For good luck

Italian tradition calls for the bride to have five things with her on her wedding day â one more than Anglo-Saxon tradition.

Something old: this symbolizes the life she is leaving behind and the importance of the past, which must not be forgotten in her transition to her new life.
Something new: this symbolizes the new life that is about to begin, representing new goals and the changes she will bring with her.
Something borrowed: this represents the love of the people dear to her, who will be by her side as she moves from her old life to her new one.
Something blue: in ancient times, blue was the color of purity, and it was also the color of wedding gowns.
Something she has received as a gift: this is to remind her of the people she loves.

The wedding ring

The customs of wearing a ring on the left ring finger goes back to the ancient Egyptians. This ancient population believed there was a vein that went from the left ring finger straight to the heart: they were convinced that this was the vein through which sentiments flowed.

âBindingâ the ring finger thus guaranteed fidelity.

To crown and seal the union between the bride and groom, the ancient Romans exchanged iron rings. In ancient Hebrew law, rings were even more important: it was thought that the wedding was valid only if rings were exchanged.

In the Middle Ages, when the exchange of rings had not yet become a fully entrenched habit, the âringâ was exquisitely crafted and extremely value, and the groom often gave the bride three rings.

In some regions of Italy, the wedding band is also referred to as âveraâ, a Veneto-Slavic term that means âfidelityâ. It is customary to engrave the date of the wedding inside the ring, adding the brideâs name inside the groomâs ring and his name inside her ring.

As tradition would have it, the groom pays for the rings and keeps them until they are exchanged, but often the best man and maid of honor are the ones to give the couple the rings. Ring-bearers then bring them to the altar to be blessed.

The most common types are the plain wedding band, which can be rounded or flat. Those who prefer something less traditional can choose one with several rings, or can opt for a ring with a small diamond or even a whole row of diamonds.

The wedding Gown

The tradition of a white wedding gown dates to the nineteenth century, and it represents virginity and purity.

In ancient Rome, brides instead wore yellow and orange veils.

Chinese women dressed in red, which is still the color worn by Indian brides today.

Longobard brides would wear a black tunic, while well-to-do Byzantine brides wore red silk gowns embroidered with gold and gemstones.

In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, wedding gowns were very colorful and could thus also be worn later for special celebrations. The most common color was red, because it was thought to ensure fertility.

Today, white and beige are the most popular colors.

The wedding Veil

During Roman times, weddings were often contracted between families for political or financial reasons, and the betrothed couple never laid eyes on each other until their wedding day.

Consequently, the bride would cover her face until the end of the ceremony to prevent the groom from seeing her â and perhaps stopping the rites!

In several regions of Italy, it is traditional to hand down the wedding veil from generation to generation.

Confetti (candied almonds)

By tradition, in ancient times these delicacies were bundled in precious little bags of tulle (lace is used today) for the wedding day. They had to be white and always came in odd numbers (generally five) to represent the qualities that must always be part of the life of the new couple:

What colors should i use for my wedding?

My wedding is July 10, 2011 I'm having it a a hotel in New Orleans on my mother's birthday R.I.P...I love canary yellow, blues, whites Help!!!...lol i would also appreciate if you would show me pictures and ideas!..Thank you so much
And what color flowers, shoes and jewelry what type of flowers omg...this planning is too much lol..

Answer
To me blue, yellow and whites are a fav. and a beautiful combo. Go to these sites and have a look, on http://www.teleflora.com look under blue flowers for blue iris, light blue hydrangea, blue anemone and of course blue delphinium. Also, look at one of my favs. Beautiful in Blue, try to imagine it with a few small yellow roses and also under blue look at Everything's Beachy. And under yellow flowers look at Basket of Memories and Spring Waltz, while these two have lavender flowers, try to picture them with blue flowers instead of the lavender. My all time fav for these colors and I think it is in several categories is Meet Me In Provence---gorgeous and just what you need, you can click on any bouquet and description will tell you all flowers used and you can get an up close view of them. Look under all categories, like love and romance, best sellers, etc.

Out of the new Pantone wedding colors, found under http://www.dessy.com top ten wedding colors, there is a blue, called regatta, beautiful and Blue Curaco. Also, go to this same site and there is a color palette, I guess you would call it and you can click on any color, get name of color and there is a large swatch which shows a larger view of the color you clicked on---my favs. under blue were the periwinkle and cornflower and the yellow picks were snapdragon (a mild yellow) and daisy a more sun bright yellow.
Another good site is http://www.fromyouflowers.com
My fav. bouquets are while lillies (so feminine) yellow roses and the blue delphinium.
You can also google blue and yellow wedding flowers.
Shoes will not matter if gowns are long and I am assuming BM gowns are blue, this is the one I would pick. I love yellow, but, to me a yellow dress is a lots of yellow.
There are many yellow flowers, from roses, ranunculus (which looks like a small open rose) lillies, yellow calla lillies(gorgeous), dahlias, tulips, white orchids with yellow center, spray orchids, daisies, mums and carnations and mini carnations. And the blue hydrangea is a fav, especially for summer weddings. HOWEVER, the most important thing is to pick a good florist and talk with her about flowers that will be in season or that she can order for that time of year.
Jewelry---depends on formality of wedding. Pearls with blue are always regal, romantic whether a small strand or a single pearl. Google wedding jewelry. Also cz's a single tear drop is pretty with cz stud earrings. I personally do not like necklaces, to me they take away from the neckline of the dress. I like the larger pearls and sometimes you can find them with a tiny diamond/cz at the top for just that dot of elegance. I can picture this in my mind, but I am seeing tea length gowns and as such, shoes, shoes----dye, acrylic??? or a simple small heel slip on with top a nude/neutral color. I like the acrylic slip on heels with a bow or something on them and you can also buy earrings and attach to the strap/top piece of shoe, hot glue earrings in your colors in a bow or i like a cz mixed with blue stones. Very easy to do. And the shoes look like they came that way, just use lots of glue, but not too much, you don't want it to glob out the sides. If a simple wedding, I have seen like a wedge type sandal with ribbons that tie around the ankles, which could be blue, you could remove ribbons and dye or pick ribbon you want and take to a good shoe shop and have them attach to back of shoe, then wind ribbon as tall as you want around ankle. I like only one wind around the ankle and then tie in a bow.
One thing I would like to add in, and you did not ask this, but I have found that if you have your wedding on anyone's birthday, anniversary, holiday or the date of your Mothers death, later in life this overshadows your wedding day/anniversary. She will be in your thoughts anyway and this is a very emotional day, so just from someone else who has lost their Mother, kindly said, re-think this date. We were married on my father's birthday and in October lost him to Alzheimer's. Just a thought for you to consider.
Also, for help, google wedding checklists and get about three and then make a master checklist and you can add/delete as your budget allows.
Some good sites: http://www.theknot.com this one has a color palette, a checklist and a budgeter

I also like to suggest google a name/adress change kit that comes with all the forms you need for the state you live in.
Adding a source up here, too many in source box.
