wedding colors?

Q. if i want my wedding colors to be red and aqua, and my wedding dress has red in it-what color do i make my bridesmaids dresses. honestly i'm kinda scared to make them all aqua-because that would be ALOT of bright blue, but i don't know what else to do with red and aqua. also i don't want my colors to end up looking like i'm doing a patriotic theme....its just his fav color is red and mine blue. also its going to be a spring wedding.

Answer
1] what shade of red, and what shade of aqua? What shade is the red in your dress, and how much of it is red?
Be sure to compare shades side by side, before you buy a lot of stuff.
2] you could try combining colors in bouquets, and making bridesmaids all blue or all red. [ also consider putting his birth month flower, and your birth flower, or just both your favorites.]
3] spring blues - aqua, turquoise, periwinkle, ice blue, powder blue, sky, some gray-blues.
4] spring reds - deep rose, raspberry, cherry red, burgundy, and crayola red.
5] which shades actually look good on people? I used blue at my wedding [ husb favorite ] because all my bridesmaids were blonde, and my favorite is yellow - not a good combo.
6] use white or ivory table covers, and mix the colors in the centerpieces.
7] what is the theme? Different shades may go better with one theme than another.
8] look at a lot of color charts before you go furthur.
9] what color is the church decor? You don't want red dresses with a maroon background!

meaning of wedding dress colors?

James Hobb

i want to know what wedding dress i should get

Answer
there is actually a poem about wedding dress colors. it goes as follows.

Married in white, you will have chosen all right.
Married in grey , you will go far away.
Married in black, you will wish yourself back.
Married in red, youâll wish yourself dead.
Married in blue, you will always be true.
Married in pearl, youâll live in a whirl.
Married in green, ashamed to be seen,
Married in yellow, ashamed of the fellow.
Married in brown, youâll live out of town.
Married in pink, your spirits will sink.

in all honesty though, that is all superstition. wear what you want.

Certain Wedding Dress Color?

Q. I saw a wedding dress on TV and it is so, purely white it its almost BLUE it is like snow but bluish? PLEASE send me a link!? It may have been from David's Bridal?

Answer
I have no idea but I went DavidsBridal.com because I knew that they do have a dress with blue tulle on it. I realized that some of the white dresses may appear bluish due to the lighting and possibly due to my computer settings..

Like this...looks light blue to me but it actually isn't:
http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Strapless-Tulle-Wedding-Gown-with-Beaded-Appliques-V3469_Bridal-Gowns-Features-All-Gowns

So maybe what you saw wasn't blue at all but simply a trick of the eye. If that's the case it would be next to impossible for us to find the exact one without actually seeing the ad with you, since most dresses are white and could be photographed that way.

Here's the one with blue...but I'm sure it's probably not the one you saw
http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Organza-Split-Front-Gown-with-Floral-Print-Inset-T3268_Bridal-Gowns-Features-All-Gowns

Would people be offended by this wedding dress?

Julie

I'm a very patriotic person and like this dress, but I'm worried about offending people who believe in more traditional weddings. Advice please!

Answer
Many people feel it's inappropriate to wear the American flag. Why would you want to?

Why not consider just a color scheme of red white and blue? Or a dress like this but getting the band to be the blue with stars?

http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Satin-Pick-up-with-Ribbon-Accent-and-No-Train-T9309_Bridal-Gowns-Features-Personalize-Your-Look-Color-Accents

http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Allover-beaded-corded-lace-A-line-gown.-CT2406_Bridal-Gowns-Features-Personalize-Your-Look-Color-Accents

Or in this one you could get the flower on the side made out of red
http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Side-Draped-Taffeta-Gown-with-3D-Floral-Detail-WG3045_Bridal-Gowns-Features-All-Gowns

That dress is probably quite cheaply made. I think you'd probably be disappointed with it. It resembles more of a figure skaters outfit than a gorgeous wedding dress. It just seems very juvenile and more costume party than wedding. Which is fine if you are having a costume party wedding (like on Halloween). I have a friend getting married this Halloween in a Batman theme. Her dress is Harley Quinn, the father is dressed like Penguin. The bridal party is all other villains. But if you aren't wanting it to be costume party, it probably will come across looking like a child's party instead of an elegant wedding. A dress from a wedding gown designer usually uses better quality fabric.

It all depends on what kind of vision you have for your wedding though.

what colours go with a cream wedding dress?

suga

my dress is cream with bronze for the boneing on the bodice. my bridesmaids dresses are bronze butnow im stuck for cake colour flower colour etc any help would be appreciated!!!

Answer
Just about anything will work with cream and bronze. Dark green, pale blue, some shades of red...I would suggest going to your local hardware store and picking up a paper paint sample in the color of your wedding dress, and one in the color of your bronze bridesmaids dresses....then take those two samples to the florist. See what colors/flowers compliment your paint samples, and show the samples to the florist for suggestions on arrangements.

Good luck!

Wedding Colors?

Flossy

Okay... So my bridesmaid dresses are going to be like a clover green..I know pink would go with it but what other colors would go with it.. Like flower wise..what color would be pretty in a boquet?

http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_bycolor_detail.jsp?stid=2984&sid=15409&cfid=50
My Wedding is in August of next year..

Answer
That is one of the great things about green.... just look at nature. There are no flowers that clash with clovers. :)

Pink would be really pretty, so would yellow. Lavender would go nicely too.... and don't forget white.

Something to consider is bringing a sample of your fabric to the florist and seeing what looks pretty. He/she may have some suggestions too. Or if you want to have some ideas in mind, go to a hardware store/home decorating center and have a look at the paint chips and see what matches. Pick the ones you like, and then head to the florist.

What time of year is your wedding? Think of getting flowers in season as they are fresher and also more economical.

I have really pale skin and black hair. What dress color would suit me?

Meghan

I have prom on Saturday and I still don't have a dress. I've been searching a lot for what color would suit me, but all I see are two different answers! -_____-

Light pastel colors for pale skin, Dark colors for pale skin. I don't even know....
I always get made fun of for my pale skin and I don't want to look more pale than I already do.

I'm also a pear shape, if you guys could also tell me what dresses would suit my body shape, that'd be cool too! :D

Answer
I think pastel colors would look better. I feel like green dresses go well with pale skin and dark hair. Try a mint green or maybe a nice pink or lavender if you're not looking for a green dress.

Maybe you'd like this:

I personally loved seeing all the long dresses at my prom.

A nice dress (for a wedding) colour for pale skin?

its.me_ann

hey...

my friend is going to a wedding and she wants to buy a dress that compliments her skin colour which is pale.. i have no idea

please help x

thankkk s x anne

Answer
I'm extremely pale and pastels look terrible on me because they're too close to my skin tone. If you're pale then light colors will make you look blah and washed out. I think bolder colors like peacock blue or kelly green look great on people with a fair complexion because they contrast the skin tone.

I personally like the bold blues and greens, but even a deep bold purple or cranberry would probably look nice too.

How can I do a wedding for under 7,000?

teckler2

I live in PA near Penn state, and I have a guest list of 150. My wonderful finacee has a huge Italian family and we cannot cut the guest list down. My parents are no longer around and we are paying for the wedding ourselves. Does anyone have any tips on where to hold the wedding/reception to meet our budget? Help!!

Answer
here are my tips that i have passed on to many buget concious brides... hope you can use some of them.

first off- shop after holiday clearance sales at craft stores, michaels and ac moore, and places like walmart, target and kmart. i got things on christmas clearance for 75-95% off- votive candles in glass holders for $.40 each!

i can set you up with a great lady who is making my invites. she does package deals (any size you will need) and a la carte - you will save tons with her. i'm getting 75 invites, evelopes, thank you scrolls, rsvp postcards, folded thank you cards and evelopes and address labels for under $90

rings- shop jc pennys when they have sales, look for coupons...
or ebay and craigslist. really don't be afraid of ebay. shop sellers with 99 or 100% feedback only. i'm getting my ring for under $25 (stainless band that matchs my engagement ring) and his for under $50 (tungsten).

transportation- use a relatives nice auto or use your own. you DON'T nee a limo, you can even rent a big suv for the day for near nothing from most rental co's (budget hertz alamo) or call around to classic car clubs and see if you can rent a classic car for an hr or two... might be really cheap to do that

dress- shop consignment shops. my dress cost $150 and is awesome. look on craigslist and ebay too.

bm dresses- these have dresses under $100
http://www.bridalsassique.com/index.asp?...
http://www.bridesonlinestore.com/
you can also try looking at prom dresses and homecoming dresses in macys and jcpenneys. most of them look like bm dresses anymore, it will increase your selection by looking for those 3 types instead of just bm dresses

guys clothing- they don't need to tux it up. they can wear white shirts and tan slacks. or white shirts and dark slacks and a tie... make sure they are all bought at the same time so they match.

flowers- you can shop local flower stores or grocery store floral dpts (make your own if you like) bring pics of what you want to guide your florist. shop rite has a full service flower dpt and they offer wedding planning help too. or you can go the silk route. afloral.com has great flowers. that's who i went to for mine

centerpieces- i like the tall vases with topiary style arrangements on them. i love gerberas so i think using them is a great way to punch up color and keep your budget down
you can also get different vases (walmart super cheap) and have different looks on each table.

ceremony location- i'm all for outdoor weddings. i think being surrounded by nature is just beautiful and makes for awesome pictures. plus most are free or really cheap.
i'm getting married in a park and it only cost $5 for the application fee. no charge to bring in chairs tents etc...

reception locations- you can have it at a vfw, moose/elk lodge or fire house banquet hall. they are nicer now that ever... they realize how much revenue they generate so many/most have been updated in the last few years.
we are using the banquet hall of the fire house where we are memebers. it only cost us $275 to rent. $500 for non members. (they do open bar. cash bar. cater. or let you diy the food)

cake- look at bjs and costco, even walmart does wedding cakes now. don't forget grocery stores. most do wedding cakes and are rather tasty cakes. you might not get all the flavor choices of a bakery but most ppl go with white or chocolate anyway.
we are getting our cake from shop rite ($1.75 a serving compared to $3.50 someone else quoted me) i love s/r cakes and have had many a b-day cake from them when i was younger.

favors- you really don't need them if you are trying to save money. but... you can do organza bags filled with candies. shop ebay for the best prices, seller ideabus, has the best prices and selection
or try dipping the ends of pretzle rods in white, dark or milk chocolate. then roll the ends (or sprinkle) with jimmies, colored sugar crystals, crushed nuts, mini marshmallows... or what ever else floats your fancy. put them in celophane bags and tie off with a ribbon to match your colors. super easy and people love things they can snack on on the way home from the reception.
stick to edible, anything else are 99% dust collectors or trash can fillers

photographer- look on craigslist for your area, under services, type in photography and see the results. i found a great gal for mine $300 for 6 hrs. some places charge wayyyy more but you should be able to find a good one for under 1k
i also found someone who wants to build her portfolio so she's shooting the whole day for free. if we like any prints we can order a la carte for super cheap.

you might be able to find a dj service on craigslist too. or just call around for a good rate from someone with referrals

our wedding for about 100 ppl will run us about 2-2500k.

most important thing about a wedding, budget- STICK TO IT

oh join your local yahoo group freecycle and post what you are looking for. i got lots of wedding things for free. (esp after june!)

post on craigslist for your area too, and search for wedding things too. many ppl have left overs they want to unload after their weddings and sell at below lowest cost!

I am looking for a champagne or ivory color wedding dress, any recommendations?

mona lisa

It will be a winter wedding. I want something not to inexpensive but not too expensive. I dont like puffy dresses, I do like the modern look type. Yes, real silk. Please help.
All comments will be helpful thanks!

Answer
I would go start trying things on. Go to a smaller, privately owned bridal shops (instead of larger chain stores), in my opinion the sales people are just more knowledgeable. Since you have a good idea of what you want, go in and explain it to them and they will be able to pull dresses that are what you have in mind. Almost all wedding dresses can be ordered in either ivory or champaign, even if the sample is white (I'm having an ivory dress too).

Lastly, don't be shy to try dresses on that a sales person might suggest. They have a great eye for body shape and what will look good on your and still be what you have in mind - it's worth the 5 minutes to try something on, even if it isn't exactly what you picture or doesn't look great on the hanger. One of the salespeople at a little family owned shop suggested I try on a mermaid style gown and I fell in love!

The dress she suggested wasn't "the one" but I did eventually find my dress, and it's mermaid style - something I never thought I would like or look good on me! My reception dress will also be a mermaid style!

Good Luck and have fun! It may take multiple shopping trips to find the right one :)

Addition:

I noticed another posted recommended Casa Blanca - yes all their dresses are made of real silk, but at every store I've tried them on at (I actually like a quite a few of their designs) they are always overpriced. I don't know why, maybe because they are a Canadian designer and made in Canada, but these dresses are always priced $500-900 more than they are really worth. And this is coming from my mother who used to design and make wedding gowns and owned a bridal store for 6 years.

champagne wedding dress SOS!?

Cj193

I am getting married in late April 2010. We are getting married in a historical inn and then having a served dinner at the same place. We only invited 50 guests and while it is not jeans casual it is suppose to be comfortable. I found a purchased the dress from Davids Bridal Style: F12639 in Champagne (bargain!) It is perfect for the wedding we are having! I am not a traditional bride and did not want a white or ivory dress with the traditional shape so I went the bridesmaid dress route. I am now looking at veils and shoes.
HELP!
Since I saved soooo much on my dress (Nice!) I can purchase the accessories I want. I need to figure out what color shoes, veil and bolero (or some sort of sleeved cover up). Keep in mind i am a plus size girl. I was thinking a maybe a dark purple strappy sandal for shoes? Too much? Any suggestions would be helpful as long as they are constructive! Thanks for your time! :)

Answer
You have MANY options!

I too have a Champagne coloured dress (wedding date = July 29th, 2010 on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon). I actually have two pairs of shoes. I have a pair of satin flats that I had dyed at the shoe place for $25. They are dyed the same colour as the dress. And, for the reception, I have a beautiful pair of high heeled red satin pumps from Supadance (model 1039) so that I can dance the night away in style!

I found it much easier to have accessories in a different colour My purse is red too!

What's the best dress color for dark skin?

CJ

My skin is medium-dark, (the color of my avatar) and I'm going dress shopping soon for a dance. What would be the best dress color and what accesories?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Answer
It all depends on your personality. If you are passionate and outgoing, wear red - it would bring out the warmness in your skin and would show off your strong personality.
If you're down to earth, relaxed and friendly, green would be beautiful, especially dark/olive green.
Purple is also pretty, and of course the classic black/white.

As for cut, just wear something flattering for your body shape that makes you feel comfortable and confident. This website can help you finding the right dress for your body type:

They have some cute stuff, you can use it for ideas. If you can't find a dress u like, remember you don't have to look for just a "prom dress"- it can be in the regular dress section.

The best colors for medium dark skin are either red, a deep purple, or navy blue. Also beautiful fiery reds and velvets, or deep purples would suit you complexion...and indigo would look absolutely stunning!

Colour is not so important like a beautiful smile...it makes any outfit look great. :)
And the most important, wear something to show off your personality!

Good luck. ;)

rules of dressing?

teenofrock

can someone tell me rules of dressing. I got some sweet stuff from urban outfitters and AE outfitters but can someone tlel me rules like solid on plaid? I need to know what goes with my plaid shorts and plaid hat can can someone tell me about colors also?

Answer
If you wear plaid on anything like a shirt, shorts, pants, or jacket then you definitely need to wear more solids. Another random rule of fashion is that you can basically wear any colors together as long as they are the right tone. You need to be careful with this though because you could be totally right or totally wrong. For instance, I made an outfit for my mother that was a teal top with a Japanese floral skirt that was white, teal, and black with a purse to match with red shoes.

Answer
all you need is a necklace for that dress and either brown or black necklace unless you're wearing your hair down don't get black it will blend into your hair too much. My rule is always match your accessories to either your purse or shoe color. It ties everything together

HOMECOMING DRESS HELP!!!?

.Jesus.Fre

Homecoming is in about a month and I'm trying to get everything together. I have a black, shapeless dress with black roses across the neckline. I want to look feminine, but I also want to keep my hardcore rocker edge. I have medium length brown hair and very fair colored skin. I'm 5'6 1/2 inches tall and have an hourglass figure. Any ideas for accessories, shoes and anything else that would complete my look? Makeup ideas would be great, too. Thanks (:
The dress is sleeveless btw.

Answer
You should were your dress with a cute belt tight around your waist so you look nice and not too much like a blob(you might want to make that a solid color besides black, to add a little color). Also you should add some punk accessories like a skull crossbones necklace ( go with simple, it looks cuter that way) and same earrings. I have no idea for make up because i don't use it. Your shoes are up to you. If you want it to be more feminine, go with (if you have some) Silver heels or gladiators. If you want the punk look, where riding boots or combat boots or something of that nature. I hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
it's on Long Island but you can easily get there by the LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) Farmingdale station, and a quick cab ride. Walking from the station may be a little too far, especially in bad weather.
Estelles Dressy Dresses in Farmingdale. They have all kinds of dresses and they do have a wedding section.

what colour was queens elizabeth wedding dress?

kalimo

Answer
Ivory white.

"The richly embroidered white satin wedding dress shimmered with her every movement. Softly spaced throughout the dress were garlands of pearl orange blossom, syringa, jasmine and White Rose of York. These were skilfully combined with flowing lines of wheat ears, the symbol of fertility, and worked in pearl and diamante."
http://www.britishroyalwedding.com/royal-weddings/queen-elizabeth-ii-prince-philip/

"Made of ivory duchesse satin woven from silk from Chinese silkworms at Lullingstone Castle, the dress was decorated with 10,000 white seed pearls, imported from America, silver thread, sparkling crystal and transparent appliqué tulle embroidery. Attached at the shoulders was a 15-foot star-patterned full court train, embroidered in pearl, crystal and appliqué duchesse satin. The ensemble was completed by a silk tulle veil held in place by a diamond fringe tiara, lent to the bride by her mother as 'something borrowed', and ivory duchesse satin high-heeled sandals, trimmed with silver and seed pearl buckles."

Elizabeth I never married, either privately or publicly. She was the "Virgin Queen"! She was close friends with Robert Dudley. It was Mary, Queen of Scots who married Henry, Lord Darnley.

Answer
My daughter is an excellent seemstress and has been frustrated with the lack of modest gowns. Because of that, she makes her own. We live in Woodland, CA, just outside of Sacramento. Give me a private email message and you can contact my daughter to make you a beautiful, modest gown.
August to November should be enough time for Erin to fit and make your gown. She likes to call her designs modern yet modest. Feel free to contact me.
