Answer
If you're in or near New York City, try RK Bridal (on 39th around 9th or 10th) or Kleinfelds. We ordered the bridesmaids dresses for my wedding from RK Bridal and they were fantastic.

Best dress for spring dance?

Cassie

Brown/red hair
Greenish Bluish eyes
150 lbs
5'4- so slimming dresses wouldn't hurt.

Trying to find a type of dress that would suit my body type or a color that would work best!

Bonus points if you put a link to a dress! Nothing REALLY short. It should be like halfway between casual and formal, but it needs to be about knee length. And not skin tight or showing a lot of skin.
I'm not tan....?

Answer
i'm a redhead [natural strawberry blonde], and i'm planning on wearing an emerald green dress.
i'm pretty pale though.
people also say i look good in purple.
so i'd stick with cool colors.
purple, blue, green, etc.
i'd be weary of red.
some can pull it off, others can't.
also be weary of other warm colors like orange or yellow.
pink is also iffy. you need to find the right shade.
since you're tan, you're likely to be able to get away with bright colors, and white.

What color prom dress is best for a redhead?

kat_rose6

i have green eyes, and i'm short [5'2"]...big butt n' small chest&& waist...help?

Answer
go for a jewel tone (my choice would be bright green) it will make the color of ur eyes pop and ur hair seem more vibrant =)
good luck and i hope u have fun at ur prom!!

Where to buy inexpensive wedding dresses in DC area?

Let'sRaveO

I'm trying to help my friend find places in the Washington DC area where you can buy wedding dresses that don't cost an arm and a leg. She's already gone the David's Bridal route, but she wants more options. The problem is all the specialty boutiques are so expensive! It's going to be a low-key wedding so she'd like to keep the budget below $1,000 including alterations and the veil, so I'm thinking the dress itself shouldn't be over $700. Any ideas where to look?

Answer
tell her to try looking at high end department stores. that is an often forgotten source for great prices on wedding gowns and other wedding party outfits, including bridesmaid dresses. places like macy's, dillards, norstroms, and jcpenny have amazing prices on their wedding dresses. most of them priced under 500 dollars.

if you want a more traditional experience, try the macy's tyson's galleria in mcclean va. they carry demetrios wedding gowns.

Peruvian wedding dresses?

darkrosean

me and my fiance are getting married in peru and i was wondering if buying a dress in peru would be cheaper than buying one in virginia?
and if so, is there a website that i can look at the dresses??

Answer
dark rose-
first let me extend my Congratulations to the groom and Best Wishes to you (the bride).
My friend lived in Peru for quite some time, and the merchandise there is much more affordable than items here in the U.S. However, the selection of wedding dresses may not be as vast as in VA.
You didn't specify if you want a traditional Peruvian dress or a more modern styled one.
If you want a traditional Peruvian dress- your best bet is to buy it in Peru. Try to get there a while earlier than your wedding date because it may end up needing to be tailored or custom made for your body shape/size.
However, if you want a modern dress, I would advise you to buy it in VA. The reason why is because you don't want to be stressed out while your vacationing in Peru for your wedding if it turns out that you can't find the "right" dress. Also, since there is much more competitors in the bridal dress industry in the US, prices for modern dresses would be cheaper here. I am familiar with VA, I advise you shop around in the northern part of the state and closer to the Washington D.C. area since there are ton of large department stores with dresses as well as smaller boutique style bridal shops.
Good luck!

Wedding dress rental?

Jennifer

I was wanting to know if there is any where around Indinapolis that does wedding dress rentals?

Answer
Hi, I have planed to rent a wedding dress. But I gave up at last because the price is almost the same to buy a wedding dress. Besides, renting a wedding dress mean that you can't preserve it. I think it is very regrettable. I advise you a online wedding dress store http://www.trustedeal.com where I bought mine at only $140.99. They are selling the wedding dresses at almost $150 on average. When I got the dress, everything was turned out good out of expectation. The store earns me in pretty dress and big budget saved for my wedding holiday. Good luck!!

Can you really buy wedding dresses on ebay for .99 cents?

Ashley Tri

I've been looking at wedding dresses on Ebay and have seen some for 99 cents!! Does anyone know if this is this true or just an intro into bidding higher? I dont see any shipping cost either... Is this a scam?

Answer
If the starting price is .99 cents and you're looking to buy a wedding dress, i would bid to with. If you are the highest bidder with .99 cents then you made a great deal, and if somebody outbids you before the bidding is closed, then they will get the dress, but you will lose no money.

Btw Make sure the dress will fit before you bid. Good Luck!

wholesale wedding gowns??!?

just here

ok long story short...i purchased my wedding gown from david bridal...totally forced into getting it and i hate it so much. I really really want a new wedding dress, my wedding is in 6weeks. i found this website online called www.dhgate.com/wholesale its wholesale wedding dresses and they look gorgous! the only thing is...the wedding dresses are literally like SO CHEAP...like 50-100$?!? I feel like this is def. a catch, it must be. anyone know anything about this and if its safe, or what its all about in general??
and if i shouldn't trust these ppl what are some cheap places i can go for a fast dress?

Answer
OK...These are from China. Who knows under what conditions these gowns are made....i.e.: child labor, etc.

Why not just go to a local bridal store? The bridal store where I purchased my dress for my son's wedding had a whole ROOM full of gowns/dress and they were very, very cheap (clearanced price.) I bought a $200 dress for only $25!! Yes, it was brand new...still with tags on. All bridal stores regularly clearance gowns. They may have been tried on, but who cares? So go and check!

OR...do you have a second hand/thrift store or a consignment store in your area? You would be surprised at what you can find. I shop at my local thrift stores all the time and there are always wedding dresses. People donate them or they are sold on consignment. It's worth a look.

Planning a Wedding on a very low budget!?

Q. My Fiancee and I are planning to get married about a year from now, December 4th 2010. I am in my last year of college and I graduate in may he is the only one really bringing in any money to the home seeing as I only have a part time job on campus. We have about 5000 Dollars to spend on the wedding but everywhere we look at is extremley expensive. I've tried websites that send information on things like venues and photographers but the totals still come out over our budget. I live in Connecticut and would appreciate any suggestions to places or suggetions on how to do this within our budget. Also my mother is buying my dress as a gift to me so that is not to worry about. Please help I would appreciate it greatly.
The guest list is about 100, and we both come from very bid italians families so cutting down the list would be a huge no-no.

Answer
A $100 wedding. This Bride and Groom could have had any type of wedding that they wanted but they wanted something "short and simple." They rented a gazebo in a community park (one-half day rental). Over 150 people were invited to the May wedding. The ceremony took place at 1030AM on a Saturday morning just as the trees were beginning to bloom. The Bride did not wear a gown (she wore a simple white sundress) and the Groom did not wear a tuxedo (he wore navy blue sports jacket and gray slacks). There were no bridesmaids nor groomsmen nor a flower girl. After the fifteen minute ceremony they jumped into their new corvette and drove away. By 8PM that evening they were sipping tropical drinks at their honeymoon destination. This wedding cost one hundred dollars (gazebo rental and Marriage License).

A wedding that cost less than $2000. This Bride and Groom contacted a well known Bed and Breakfast about fifty miles from their home town. They rented a room for themselves, a room for their Maid of Honor, and a room for their Best Man. The 5PM ceremony took place in the B&B's garden in June. After the ceremony the four people had a catered meal on the B&B's porch. At 9PM that evening they released a large cluster of white balloons after a dessert of wedding cake and champagne. The next morning a catered breakfast was served to the four people on the B&B's porch. The Groom was a professional musician, he sang an original song as a surprise to his Bride during the ceremony, it was beautiful! This couple could have invited "a million and one people" to their wedding but they only wanted their two closest friends. The Bride wore an ornate cocktail dress and the Groom wore a tuxedo. The Maid of Honor wore a simple cocktail dress and the Best Man wore a tuxedo.

If your budget is limited then you need to avoid having a 4PM wedding ceremony and a 5PM reception at a hotel or banquet hall on a Saturday (that's prime time in the wedding world).

No matter what your budget is, the reception is ALWAYS fifty percent of your budget (food, beverages, wedding cake, and entertainment (DJ or band). So here's some options that you may want to consider (and none of them cost $99.95 per person) . .

Get married in the morning and follow that ceremony with a breakfast or brunch. Breakfast is the least expensive FULL MEAL that you can serve your guests PLUS you do not have to serve any alcoholic beverages except for a champagne toast to the Bride and Groom nor do you have to hire a band or DJ at that time of day (most people will leave after the meal). Think waffles, omelets, fresh fruit trays, and orange juice. Follow the meal with fancy cupcakes or wedding cake.

Get married at 1PM or 130PM or 2PM or 230PM. Your guests have already eaten lunch and it is too early for dinner. You can have a "desserts only" reception or just fancy cupcakes, wedding cake, and punch. Your dessert reception can include any (or all) of the following: eclairs, cream puffs, brownies, decorated cookies, assorted pies, root beer floats, mini pastries, an ice cream sundae buffet, fresh fruit, and wedding cake. You may be able to hire a DJ for two hours instead of four hours.

Get married at sunset or after 7PM. Your guests have already eaten dinner so you can serve either lite fare (mini sandwiches and salads) or have a desserts reception with ice cream or sherbet with wedding cake. You may be able to hire a DJ for two hours instead of four hours.

Craig's List is a great way to find wedding vendors and service providers (caterers, wedding cake bakers, photographers, musicians, etc). Some of these people are doing this as their "full time job" and some of them are doing this "as a second income" or hobby. Do not hire the least expensive, you get what you pay for!

When should I start planning my August 2015 wedding?

Raeniece

Answer
If you wait until August 2014, you will have *more* than enough time.

If you really want to start now, then start with the ceremony site (especially if you want a church/temple), the officiant, and a reception site. Those things are what sets your date, not saying, "Oooh, an August 2015 wedding sounds nice!" The date isn't set until contracts are signed and deposits are made for the ceremony and the reception. If you need to hire a separate caterer, do that as well.

You can book a photographer, videographer (if you want one), florist, and band/DJ at this point or within a few months. You might be able to block some hotel rooms at this point as well. Again, though, waiting won't hurt, unless you have your heart set on very popular vendors who book up way in advance.

Don't order a bridal gown more than about 8-10 months out, tops. Styles will change in the coming months, certain gowns will be discontinued, and your size will likely fluctuate within the next 1-1.5 years. I wouldn't purchase any expensive accessories or the shoes until the dress has been ordered.

I would not order invitations more than about 6-7 months out, and you don't absolutely need them until maybe 3 months out. Even if you book your date now, you never know what could happen. Plus there's just no need to have them so early. (I might wait until the 6-7 month mark to plan a honeymoon for the same reason - you don't want to book flights and then wind up changing your date.)

Save The Dates are completely unnecessary (although they're useful for complicated destination weddings), but if you insist on sending them then you can do it around the 8-10 Months Away mark. Include more information than simply the date - city where the ceremony and reception are located, hotel block info, wedding website if you have one, and maybe an email address to reach you for questions.

Favors are optional. I would wait until maybe 4 months out, depending on what you want. I finalized mine the weekend before our wedding.

Tuxes or suits for the groom and groomsmen can be arranged around 2-3 months in advance. Bridesmaids' dresses can be ordered about 6 months in advance - shorter if you're doing department store or clothing boutique dresses off the rack.

DO NOT ask anyone to be in your bridal party at this point, or hint that they *might* be in it. Don't even talk about a bridal party right now. If someone brings it up, just say "we haven't thought about it yet" and quickly change the subject. Don't ask people to be in the bridal party until maybe 10 months out. Please trust me on this one.

For what it's worth, one of the loveliest weddings I've ever attended was completely planned within two months. I've attended a few weddings that were two years in the making, and they were nice but also involved a lot of stress ... one due to the quest for the ever-impossible "perfection," barf; the other due to a gigantic bridal party that was asked WAY in advance, where they insisted on keeping the sides even so they brought in random acquaintances because it would somehow "make things look better," and where they asked people out of obligation and don't even talk to them anymore because they weren't close friends to begin with.

Help! Wedding Planning Cheap Venue?

Anna

My fiancé and I have decided we didn't want to spend more then 3,000 on our wedding. We are donating plasma to save up for our big day! Its July 4th 2014. We agreed that 3,000 is what we could afford. I really wanted to get married in a barn, only problem being is, that every place wants like 3,000 just for the non refundable down payment. We are saving to buy a house and get me a new car. We also have a 2 year old daughter who requires a lot of money. We don't get any help from anyone and we are struggling a little bit. My father is paying for my wedding gown so I didn't want to ask him to pay for more then my expensive gown. I was wondering if anyone knew a place in MINNESOTA or around FARGO, ND that we could get married that won't cost a fortune. A barn wedding is really my dream! Please let me know! I want a nice wedding. My sister is getting married the around the same time. She also wants a barn wedding. And I get sick of hearing about her $20,000 budget. I know my wedding won't be as nice as hers but I also don't want the family to expect my wedding to be as nice as hers( if that makes sense). I just feel like she wants everything that I wanted for my wedding but she is Upping it 10 times to make hers better. I love my sister after all she is my sister. But I am just kinda sad. Why after I told her what I wanted and in a barn, that's what she has to have? She is 8 years older then me and they own a house and have a ton of nice fancy things. My fiancé and I are still in college. Sorry I had to rant to someone!! Thank you anyone for help!!

Answer
My husband and I just got married Saturday and in total paid about $3,000 on the wedding, including travel expenses (we had the wedding in our hometown), and it was a beautiful wedding. We used the curch my brother was married in and they did not charge us for use of the church, so if you kinow someone who knows someone with a barn you may be able to find someone who would not charge you much, as long as you're willing to do the leg work and get it all set up how you want it. Also, don't blow a lot on decorations. most of oiurs came from Walmart and Dollar Tree, which sounds cheesy, but we found some very pretty things that looked very nice :) Just simple faux flowers or some colored tulle wrapped around the pews ect can really change everything! If you have a friend or family member that is a good cook, offer to pay them $100 or so to cater. Tye barn is a good idea since you won't have to do much decorating. if you're planning a DJ that might break ya lol we didn't have one because they're so eensive, but a boom box with aux hook up is just as good :) Just go cheap on the thing that you're just going to throw away! I hope this helps!

Ok. What I'm looking for is simple but hard to find. I am in love with the lace look. All over lace. I have have have to have sleeves past my elbows. Or a bolero. I don't not like too much fluff at all. And not white. I have seen many pictures on line but can't find anywhere who sales them. I want it to be around 300$ or less and not from out of the country.

Unique Wedding Dress Colour?

Beautifull

My brother is getting married, and i am his fiance's maid of honor! lol and she is having a ocean themed wedding! she wants a dress that is sandy/tan at the top and fades into a amazing blue colour! with a realy big bottom! we have no idea were to find this dress! lol and in this case, price doesnt matta! hahaha

Answer
I have a feeling you're looking for something like Gwen Stefani's dress except in tan and blue as oppose to ivory and pink. It was created by British-Gibraltarian fashion designer John Galliano.:
http://www.shoeblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/gwen-stefani-wedding-dress-2.jpg

However, as the other posters have stated, "fade-away" wedding gowns are generally custom made. The best thing I can suggest is to have the bride pick out a specific style by her favorite designer and then get in contact with the designer. You all can then request to have the dress that she wants custom made, but please note, it will be very pricey.

You could always double check brides.com to make sure she doesn't see something she likes there instead. I use the website often when helping people on Y!/A and my own friends with their bridal blunders. Best of luck!

I need help picking wedding colors?

roxy26164

my fiance and I are planning a wedding for the spring of 2010. We are on a tight budget so I was hoping to decide on the color scheme early so we can pick up little things as we go a along. Any help thinking of spring wedding colors would be great. I like pink and green but he refuses, lol. Once i looked at them they did look a little girly so i would like to compromise. Thanks!

Answer
I once attended a wedding where there were huge masses of colorful flowers. All different colors. It was just beautiful.

At this wedding, the bridesmaids wore pale green dresses. White or ivory for the bride. The men in black tuxes.

The flowers were mixed, all colorful. The bridesmaids had small bouquets, while the bride's bouquet was a larger cascade. All the bouquets were colorful, but the men wore white bouts.

I suggest you do something similar. I am sure once your groom hears he will be wearing black, he will be okay with it.

Wedding dress suggestion... (plus size)?

Q. I'm a plus size bride-to-be with VERY fair skin and am having a late spring/early summer wedding. Should I avoid white? I absolutely cannot tan. Does anyone know of some flattering styles for my body type? I keep thinking a v-neck style gown would accentuate my good parts and help to round off my shoulders. Also, does anyone know of good gown designers for "realistic" sizes?

Answer
First off

Congradulations on your upcoming wedding!! You must be so excited! Late spring sounds so romantic :D!

Eitherway darling, I KNOW YOUR PAIN. Plus sized and fair! Tanning is awful. Do you find you just burn and peel back to white? It's hardly fair isn't it?

I found a site that has a lot of wonderful suggestions for us curvy ladies :) I'm much too young to think about weddings, but when I graduated highschool I wore a beautiful light satin dress with an empire waist line to hide some of my less pleasing parts. This site also recommends the v-neck for busty babes!

http://www.ultimatewedding.com/articles/get.php?action=getarticle&articleid=968

Unfortunatly, I don't really know many good gown designers :( but I had my grad dress custom made by a brilliant seamstress (who also happened to be my best friend's mom) and it was wonderful having a dress specifically made to MY body.

You also get the fun of picking out the fabric. A great place to look for fabrics are places like in Vancouver, Little India, should you live near one. They have the most beautiful fabrics <3.

Hope this helps at all...Best of luck on your big day!!

I need help finding a plus sized wedding dress that I dont need to wait 12 weeks for?

I'm getting married in a couple months and have not had any luck finding a plus sized dress... anything in white or ivory is worth looking at... I like casual and formal ones too. I have looked on ebay and no luck with anything within my budget and that I like. I want to spend less than $200 but can spend up to $500.

Thanks!

What color wedding dress is more suitable partial shortest girl do?

My girlfriend relatively short, so the election wedding in time to pick colors that can be looked tall, we have any suggestions Mody?

Answer
Some colors can make a person appear thinner, but I don't think there are any that will make you look taller. I do know that having one solid color, no matter what color, from head to toe will make a person appear taller. If you have your bodice on a wedding dress one color and the skirt another, that will chop the body in half, making a person appear shorter. I notice some designers are doing this for 2010 bridal gown designs, you would want to avoid those.

But what makes the most difference in making a person appear taller is that certain wedding dress silhouettes or styles can make a person look shorter or taller.

Another tip when it comes to the color of your wedding dress, you want to make sure it compliments your skin and hair tones.

Flower Girl Dresses?

Q. I know there is no right ot wrong way to do it, but i wanted to get opions. Did you have your flower girl in white, or the same colors as the bridesmaids.

Answer
My colors are kiwi, lavender and yellow. The bridesmaids are wearing kiwi and lavender, the flower girl is wearing a yellow dress. The bridesmaids are going to carry a bouquet of different colors listed above and the flower girl is going to drop yellow rose petals. They match the bouquet that I am carrying. Your flower girl does not have to match you. You can have her wear what you want.

Anyone have any good wedding dress choices for plus size brides?

Q. I'm helping a friend of mine plan her May 2009 wedding. (I am engaged, but not ready to "tie the knot" any time soon.) She hasn't been able to find a dress she likes, we've scowered the internet and it's still a toss up, she likes the ruffled/gathered bottoms (I don't know what they are called) but I can't find any pictures of what they look like on p/s brides and most bridal stores/boutiques don't offer too many styles in p/s (to actually try on). Any ideas are welcome.... it's going to be an indoor church wedding if that helps.

Answer
Alfred Angelo. I just bought my dress there and they have sizes up to 28W and they are BEAUTIFUL!!

Plus size wedding dress and weight loss?

Shutterbug

I am getting married in October 2009 and I am a plus size bride. I have found the dress that I am absolutely in love with (I hate bridal shops) http://www.kiyonna.com/12060909-p-Bridal_Dresses.html?sblid=12060909

My question is, I would like to lose a few pounds before my wedding, but I want to order my dress now so I know I have it and dont have to worry about it going discontinued on me or something. I dont want to order it in any size that is too small for me now, I want to order what fits me now, even if i lose some weight later. Will this dress be easy enough for a seamstress to take in, if I shrink a size or two? I dont think theres any beads or anything like that, its just fabric with lace over it. Please only answer if you actually know the answer to this question or have an idea.

Answer
It can be taken in, as far as easy for a seamstress it depends on her skills. (or his) It will cost you a pretty penny to have it altered. Your best bet is to buy it take it to a seamstress and ask her how much to do the alterations. If you're willing to pay the additional cost go for it. If not take it back to the store within your return period. Alterations can cost anywhere from 200-1000 depending on what is being done. (Also if you lose too much weight, no matter how skilled the seamstress she will ultimately be sewing the dress from scratch and the dress will end up costing you double.)

I am using black and ivory for my wedding colors. What cute things could i do for the reception ?

Bridget B

Answer
Hi

Congrats

I think for the ceremony for flowers i think that you shoud use all white flowers maybe white roses and have the brides maid the same just smaller them wearing nice black dresses and to carry the theme over to you, you should wrap your flowers with black ribbion where you hold it.
Use white tablecloths, black napkins, black dishes... or reverse this if possible and if it isn't too expensive (black tablecloth, white napkins, white plates). For the napkins, have your names and wedding date printed in the opposite color. Accent the settings with a colored foil-wrapped chocolate rose, a rose candle across the plates, or use colored napkin rings (for cloth napkins).

On tables, select white flower for arrangements in black ceramic vases. Tie an accent colored ribbon around the neck of the vase for emphasis. Another table centerpiece idea would be to use black candlesticks or candelabras with white taper candles.

Combine black "Queen of Night" tulips with white tulips.

White orchids are always beautiful.
White roses and black roses.
Other white flowers: Gladiolus, Lilacs, Carnations, Gardenia, Stephanotis, Calla Lily, Apple Blossom, Magnolia, Narcissus, Aster, White Lilies.

just me

I am having a black and white outdoor wedding and I need a few good ideas!
I am going to hang paper lanterns and lights in the trees. So if yall have any ideas that would go with that I would sure appreciate it.
Thank you!
This is my dress...it doesn't look as formal as it does in the picture.

Answer
Since it is an outdoor wedding with black and white theme, you can include some purple/lilac ( flowers, paper plates, paper cups, paper towels) as it goes very well with white/black and the green leaves/lawn.
You need to add some pastel color for the black and white to stand out.
You can line the tables with crisp white paper that is available at walmart/target/office depot. It is inexpensive/clean.

Don't go overboard though... add just a hint here and there. For example, white roses with the tips tinted red and nestled in a black vase sitting on a table covered in a white tablecloth. Use black napkins secured with white napkin rings and a hint of some other color. These are simple accents that you could try which won't overpower the black and white theme.

Bridal Attire For The Entire Wedding Party

Keep your wedding attire simple. A black & white wedding doesn't go well with ruffles and frills. For the bride, dress in a sleek straight cut white gown. Some raised embroidered details near the hem would look lovely. Add a long chiffon scarf draped around the front of the neck, over the shoulders and hanging down the back of the dress.

Have your bridesmaid's dress in black. Here is a good place to add that accent color if you wish. On the bridesmaid's outfits add a colored chiffon accent scarf or have them carry a single, accent colored flower.

The groom and groomsmen should dress in black tuxedos with white shirts. Again, you can incorporate an accent color here on the cummerbunds. Very smart!

Decorations & Favors For A Black & White Wedding Theme

Decorating your ceremony and wedding reception locations should be a snap. Remember to keep it simple and uncluttered.

* For pew markers choose large white bows with a black center knot. Want an accent color? Attach a small silk flower in center of knot in your color choice.

* Use black and white balloons for arches and balloon bouquets. Tie black balloons with white ribbon, white balloons with black ribbon.

* On tables, select white flower for arrangements in black ceramic vases. Tie an accent colored ribbon around the neck of the vase for emphasis. Another table centerpiece idea would be to use black candlesticks or candelabras with white taper candles.

* Light up the tables with black and white floating candles in a clear bowl. Alternatively, use black candles in a white bowl and vice versa. You could also fill a clear, wide vase or jar with black and white marbles/beads, etc. and set a white or black candle inside. Alternate the candle colors on different tables.

* Wedding favors could consist of white wedding cake bubbles, personalized mint tins, almonds or chocolates placed in black & white dress and tuxedo favor boxes, or perhaps candies or nuts nestled in miniature black top hats.

Flowers, Arrangements and Bridal Bouquets

Keep in mind, a single flower can often make more of an elegant statement than an overflowing bouquet, especially with a black & white wedding theme. White roses and black roses. Other white flowers: Gladiolus, Lilacs, Carnations, Gardenia, Stephanotis, Calla Lily, Apple Blossom, Magnolia, Narcissus, Aster, White Lilies.

Refreshments

Alcohol wise...Black Russians and White Russians, of course!

How do I find a wedding dress?

pinkyfi

My little sister is getting married in a year and we have no idea how to look for the dress she wants. Any help would help. We live in Dallas but the wedding will be outdoors on a ranch in the hill country of texas in the evening. the tone of the wedding is 'elegant country wedding.' she does NOT want a satin dress. she doesn't really want the traditional wedding 'gown'. she wants a dress that is definitely special and stands out as a wedding dress but it doesn't necessarily have to be bought at a bridal boutique. she likes the idea of vintage dresses (she likes the delicate lacey short sleeves and bodice that a lot of dresses have). she wants some sort of sleeve because she hates her arms (even though they're fine) and she wants the dress long. she will be barefoot so she doesn't want a short dress and defintely no trane. if i had to describe it i would say she wants the idea of a renaissance dress (long and flowy) but in more of an antique and bohemian style (she def does NOT want a renaissance style dress per se). price is not very important in choosing a dress, though that does not mean we want to spend inappropriate amount on a dress. as far as sizes go, i don't know the exact size - maybe 8 - she's 5'7 and has a nice figure. does anyone have any ideas on how to go about looking for something like this? if you even have some ideas of words to google, please let me know. i don't really know what to search for. thank you so much

chinese american wedding?

tammy

im not engaged yet, but my bf is chinese and im white( american), and i was wodnering if anybody knows a way to incorporate the chinese tradition into a more american wedding, without having to have 2 weddings.

Answer
Use red as a feature colour in the wedding. (Red is lucky!)

Perform a traditional tea ceremony. This can be something private with family members; you needn't include the other guests.

Before the wedding, have your fiance come to walk you to the ceremony site. Have your bridesmaids meet him and his groomsmen at the door, and make him play games. (He should have to answer quiz questions about you, wear silly outfits, do silly dances/stunts, etc. Then your girls should demand packets of lucky money from him and the groomsmen before they will allow him to escort you to the wedding.)

Wear the traditional white wedding dress for the ceremony (which will probably be more Western) and then change into a more traditional Chinese wedding outfit for the reception.

Play some of the Chinese newlywed games during/after the reception.

Decorate with double-happiness symbols. Incorporate dragons and phoenices into the decor (they symbolize the groom and bride, respectively).

Make sure that no matter what, you RESPECT the Chinese traditions - don't go overboard with paper umbrellas, lanterns, etc. I have seen way too many reality bridal shows where a bride decides to have a "Chinese wedding" and everything looks cheap, cheesy, and a mockery of the beautiful/fun traditions of the Chinese heritage. When in doubt, consult your fiance's mother to keep things tasteful. (Obviously wait until you're officially engaged to be married before broaching the subject..!)

Have fun!

Wedding dress?

Is it ok to where a white dress after getting marred the 3rd time around? I know it used to be, that a person could not do that, becuase the dress means purity and being a virgin. but now days I have known others to where white again. But is that proper?

Answer
Traditionally, white was meant to symbolize purity. This meant that in previous eras a woman could not wear a white wedding dress if she was "unpure," i.e. not a virgin. However, times have drastically changed, and the symbolism behind this color has faded. Nowadays, you can wear white, off-white, peach, red, and almost any other color (there is still a big no-no towards black, however, which is still strongly esteemed as the color of death or of mourning). It is completely within the realm of etiquette to wear a white wedding dress, even for a third marriage. Everyone should respect that it is your day and that it is your desire to wear white- after all, it is only a color. If someone has the audacity to mention your choice of color, simply sit him or her down and explain the symbolism of the color white. Tell him or her that the color white, to you, represents purity, and, on your wedding day, you hope to convey the symbolism of the purity of your love to your future husband with the color white, and it is not intended to be symbolic of the purity of your body. You are in now way being improper by desiring to wear white!

does the color of the dress even matter?

miss etats

im not engaged but i love thinking about weddings and all that kind of stuff..ive been with my bf for 3 and a half years and i lost my virginity to him. we plan on getting married and everything but i was just wondering what you guys think about the color of the wedding dress? he says i should be doing the off white color since im not a virgin anymore, (we are catholic by the way) but i have ALWAYS wanted a white dress..not because it shows purity but because i think white dresses are beautiful and thats just the style i want. we might get married in a church but does that kind of thing even matter anymore? or is this old school thinking?
thanks for all the responses so quickly, but the last couple of ones make it sound like my bf is DEMANDING i dont wear white, this is DEF. not the case! he just thinks itd be a good idea to not wear white but he totally wants me to choose :)

Answer
Today anyone can wear the color they want. Have been to 4 weddings this year. One wore pink, one wore black with white trim and the other two wore pure white and one was 7 months along. Sometimes if you get married in the Catholic church the priest who does the ceremony will demand you wear a white dress, so check with yours and see what he says. Then tell him what your BF says and ask him to talk to the BF about it.
If your BF is demanding that you wear an off white dress because you are no longer a virgin, ask him why in heck he wants everyone else to know you aren't? Unless he has told everyone he knows about your losing your virginity to him, it's no ones business except him, you and the priest.
If you aren't getting married in a church your dress can be any way and color you want. Long or short, white or green, fancy or plain. A bride gets to pick her dress and she is the one who will wear it and either her or her family will pay for it. My Mom got married in 1933 and defied everyone in both families by wearing a long, dark green satin dress. She said she saw it, fell in love with it and felt she looked fantastic in it so that was her choice because it was the same color as a 4 leaf clover and she wanted luck for their marriage. It looks wonderful in their wedding pictures and they lasted 60 years. So, dear girl, it's completely up to you. Good luck and here's hope that your life is long and happy too.

What are your opinions on colored wedding dresses?

Don't Blam

I am wondering what people think about colored wedding dresses? The color would be red with white accents, I know in our culture we are use to either ivory or white but I don't really hear of people getting colored wedding dresses.
Here is an example

Answer
Colored dresses are very common in other parts of the world. It was only since the mid-1800s that white was even considered since no one before Queen Victoria's time wore white to marry in. The royals wore silver. She introduced it as a symbol of wealth since no one else could afford such an impractical color that would never be worn again for any reason. Then later, it became fashionable to follow in her footsteps but they changed the meaning of white to mean purity when it had never symbolized that before at any time. If you wanted people to know you were pure and virginal, you wore blue. In many cultures, white is the symbol of death and mourning, not something to be worn by a bride. Which is why they wear red since it symbolizes love and passion. As far as brides who were not well-to-do during Queen Victoria's time and prior, they wore their best dress they already owned, which was usually a jewel-toned color (red, blue, green, etc). So colored dresses are not a recent trend, despite what many people want you to believe.

Even today, colored dresses are popular in England and Australia. If you go to a Renaissance faire, you will be hard pressed to find any bride there wearing white since white was not worn by commoners or royals back then.

That said, white and ivory aren't flattering on most people even though they are the mainstream options and if you don't like those, you have to get quite creative. Although most people would tell you that "it's all your imagination that white doesn't look good on you since it's flattering on everyone and you won't be properly and legally married if you don't wear it."

If someone wants to wear a colored dress, then they should do that. It's their wedding, their body, their choice. If someone doesn't like it, they don't have to attend the wedding and they can wear whatever they wish when it's their turn. No one's opinion but your own matters in this case.

Personally I don't own anything white, ivory or light colored simply because they are not flattering on me and I don't like how they look on me. They look great on other people but I'm not comfortable with them. So it doesn't make any sense for me to wear a white or ivory gown, especially when other people even agree that those colors don't work with my skintone.

Comlete change of style?

Q. Have you ever done a complete change of your personal style? I've been through a terrible loss lately, and getting my shattered self together I'm having an idea of making a complete change of my personal style. I'm getting in good shape, minding the diet, i hope to join a yoga class for meditation... To start with... I'm 30 yours old, throughout my whole life I had sportive style, short hair, reserved sombre style -- gray color always preferred. How ridiculous could my looks be if I suddenly changed into dresses, bright colors, lacy things?

Answer
I've done a complete change before too. I lost some weight so I became very comfortable with my body, so I started wearing more feminine clothing. I don't think it's ridiculous at all to change. Something big changed in your life, and it's fitting to want to change other things as well.

You can start with something in between. Get sporty clothes that are more feminine: Pastel colored yoga pants with fitted hoodie sweaters, then move onto grey colored pencil skirts or a pair of bootleg jeans with a jacket/blazer, eventually moving to feminine colored skirts/dresses. You can either do this gradually as you shop, or you can just make a huge change if you really want to. I feel it may be more comfortable for you to just change your style as you shop time to time, each time moving into as feminine of clothing as you dare.

Have fun with those changes! Look at fashion magazine's online websites, like allure.com or elle.com for photos of styles you like - there, you can get an idea. Don't forget cute matching shoes, too. Take it from a lady with a shoe fetish: Endless.com has the best selection of high heels: Plus free overnight shipping + free return postage paid if you don't like it.

Bridesmaid Dresses - Different Sizes, photos or links please? Thanks a ton?

lola-cherr

I'm trying to choose my bridesmaid dresses and am having trouble. One of my bridesmaids is a size 8-10, the other 24, the other about 30 (possibly larger). I want something to cover their arms, (not necessarily sleeves, i'm thinking a shrug, or bolero) but not to look mother of the bridish, and want them to still look young (we are all under 30). Does anyone ave photos of their own wedding or someone elses? I have seen some photos on the net, but they are all of slim models, not plus size. Any suggestions of where i might be able to buy their dresses would also be appreciated, keeping in mind i live in australia
one of the girls wants their arms covered, because she says they're "too flabby" to not cover them - Also, it's not going to look silly because it's an early spring wedding, so the weather will still be cool. and i want them to be dresses the same

Answer
Try http://www.alfredangelo.com
It's got places where you can mix and match colors and styles (tops and bottoms) as well as plus sizes and other family outfits. (Sorry, don't mean to sound like an infomercial). ;)

Do you get a little sick of the wedding rhyme married in white etc.?

Gabrielle_

I got sick of all the negative connotations with the colors in that rhyme. So I decided to make up a new one for fun! :D

Married in White, youâre a beacon of light,
Married in Grey, a gentle love will win the day,
Married in Black, romance you will never lack,
Married in Red, a life of fiery passion instead,
Married in Green, a truer lover never has been seen,
Married in Blue, the heavens will smile upon you,
Married in Yellow, a stronger love you will never know,
Married in Brown, you are a queen and love is your crown,
Married in Pink, fortune comes sooner than you think.
Married in Purple, never a union more joyful,
Married in Orange, you'll both conquer any challenge,
Married in Teal, there will be no end to the love you will feel.

Try to make more rhymes more colors or tell me what think. :D
He he, just for reference here is the "original."

Married in White, you have chosen right
Married in Grey, you will go far away,
Married in Black, you will wish yourself back,
Married in Red, you will wish yourself dead,
Married in Green, ashamed to be seen,
Married in Blue, you will always be true,
Married in Pearl, you will live in a whirl,
Married in Yellow, ashamed of your fellow,
Married in Brown, you will live in the town,
Married in Pink, you spirit will sink.
Now, now shambo. It's not an attack on white:)

...Although the rhyme is sort of funny, but future posts please be respectful of brides:D

I just want to do this for fun because of the wide variety of choices that are available today. :)

Also, I'd like to see if anyone can come up with anything for ivory of champange. :)

Answer
Never heard the original. Yours is cute. I guess since I never planned to get married I ignored a lot of things surrounding that white dress. My dress will most somewhat white with a splash of color but that's only if I can't find this dress I want and get it died the right color.

Ivory wedding dress, What?

shannonfor

My fiance wants to wear white but we decided that since I am wearing an Ivory dress he has to wear Ivory! No big deal.

Now for the wedding party they all wear Ivory tuxedos as well right? What about our Fathers, and Grandparents (Gpa's) Does everyone where Ivory then?
So me and my fiance only in ivory?
What about Brown/Chocolate?

Answer
You and your groom could be the only ones in ivory. You have so many options either, black, grey, even brown or taupe for the rest of the party. Whatever you choose for your groomsmen should go with the colors of the wedding party - perhaps ivory vest and ties to bring it all together. The fathers and grandparents don't need to match. I would go with black and ivory with the parents, etc. I would also check with the mothers, what color goes best with their dress. As long as the color does not clash or over step the ivory of the bride and groom, it will be fine.
Recently, I went to a wedding of a young couple. I was appalled at the mother of the groom wore a floor length white dress and her husband wore a white tux. I was shocked and felt sorry for the bride. What a way to start off with the MIL trying to upstage the bride.

November Wedding Guest Dress Options?

M D

My uncle's wedding is in November and I'm looking for a dress. I'm 15 and about 5'4 about 100lbs, slim and not too big on top. So I am wondering:
*What silhouette would compliment my shape well?
*What length is most appropriate for the season, and occasion?
*Is a light purple, or lilac color OK for the season, and occasion?
*What other color options fit the date, and occasion?
*Any other suggestions are gladly accepted.
*Neckline suggestions are also accepetd.
*Any online dress shops that you know of.

Thank You SOOO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!

Answer
for a wedding guest, regardless of their age or shape, a dress should never be shorter than 2 inches above the knee. the shape of the dress can be nearly any shape, but an a-line is the best and most acceptable. some younger girls are wearing pencil dresses or party dresses with poofy skirts which is fine, but you must be careful not to have it too figure hugging or revealing.

the color can be anything that is not white, ivory, tan, beige, or red. light purple would be nice for a fall wedding, or a burnt orange or brown or any fall color.

be sure that the neckline does not show any cleavage and that the dress in general does not make you stand out too much. the idea is that it is the brides day to shine and wedding guests need to be played down. if the dress is strapless or spagetti straps, you will need to wear a cover up with it at least to the ceremony.

Is it okay to wear a black dress to a wedding party?

Megan<3

My friends brother is getting married today and he said that she could bring a friend to the party afterwards so i'm going, i've got a dress, it goes to about the knee, silk-ish look, and sliver shoes, i'm worried that i'll look like i'm going to a funeral or clubbing instead of a wedding party.
Any idea's if it'll be okay?
I wore the dress, it was in the afternoon and the bride loved it, i added a white cardigan so it looked fine :) thanks for all the answers anyway :)

Answer
It's best to call the bride FIRST, people do it all the time - like suddenly it became trendy, but they are being disrespectful to the people who are being honored there. In SOME countries, wearing black is worn for funerals, and the bride may be uncomfortable bringing 'bad luck' to her special event.

Just show respect, to the bride, by calling her if it's OK.

In the 80's all the bridesmaids wore black for Paul's & Cricket's Wedding on the Young & the Restless, and before the wedding, someone got in a wreck! Of course the wedding was postponed. That's one example the soap opera TV series were trying to show what would happened if someone wore black to the wedding. . . .Even on soap, SOMETHING could happened to jinx a wedding . . .

If that was me getting married, I would prefer someone asked me!

Favorite wedding dress designer?

Kate

I'm not getting married anytime soon but I like looking at the dresses they are so pretty. So I want to know your favorite wedding dress designers. Personally I don't like Vera Wang's dresses. like on Bride Wars Kate Hudson's dress is okay but the cut is really weird at the waistline.

Answer
I LOVE Maggie Sottero gowns. Have one myself for my wedding next month!

I also like Demetrios, Pronovias and Alfred Sung gowns.

For higher end designers (that I could never afford, LOL), I really like Monique Lhuillier and Jim Hjelm.

I'm not a huge fan of Vera Wang either.

Friend's wedding: Another dress question?

Rimi

Alrite, so my friend who's getting married in Italy in May just asked me if I could perform her first dance song, Save the Last Dance for Me by Michael Buble. Naturally, I said yes, but I had to return the dress that I was planning on wearing to the reception. She felt bad, so she offered to pay for my dress as long as it was under $300. I have three dresses picked out (some are listed for more than $300 but I have a 50% discount I can use). Help me out??

Here's her wedding gown:
http://www.jlmcouture.com/Jim-Hjelm/Bridal/Fall/2008/Style-8858

and here are my gown choices:

1.http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3009924?Category=&Search=True&SearchType=guidednav&keyword=floor+length+dress+in+All+Categories+%3E+Women%27s+Apparel+%3E+Dress+Shop&origin=searchresults

p.s. What do you think of her gown? :D
BTW: i don't have to match with the wedding colors. She's seen all of these and loves/ approves of all of them. I just want to make sure that whichever dress I pick is a good buy.
BTW #2: i would wear my hair up. ;P
the first dress wasn't a performance gown, it was a bit too casual. that's why i returned it. :)

Answer
All three nordstrom evening gowns are gorgeous! I think that the most UNIQUE one is the second one!! It reminds me of a gorgeous red dress that Eva Longoria wore.

I love Jim Hjelm dresses! I like the sash, which gives it a trendy look.

I am almost done planning my wedding. Have picked out the dress and everything.

http://marysbridal.com/quinceanera/4155.htm

The problem is I was not around for my fiance's sisters wedding and today when I was looking at her wedding pic's I noticed she had the same color's! White, Ice blue with Silver.

Should I change my colors or just go with what I want? We are having a Winter Wonderland and the colors are perfect!

My fiance say to put a darker blue in it. Any Ideas? Please help

Answer
I too disagree with the bridezilla "It's my wedding I'll do what I want." But in this case, I don't think you are being a bridezilla by accidental choosing the same colors, but not changing them.

The colors you have chosen are very very common for a winter wedding. Stick with it. If your sister in law was that concerned about being unique, she would have chosen more unique colors. Also, her wedding has obviously been well in the past - and you never mentioned that SHE has a problem with it. So don't over think it.

That would be like me being mad if my brother marries in the springtime like I did, and uses floral-toned colors. Duh. Spring wedding - what do I expect??

Just make sure your wedding is your own, perhaps add a darker shade of blue to the mix like your fiance suggested. Use more crystals than silver when possible. Go with your own flair!

She may even have some things left over she's willing to share.

Unless she had the same bridesmaids dresses, held it at the same reception hall, used all the same decorations as you, your wedding - color aside - will be vastly different.

No worries & good luck.

PS - And although the dress is not my personal taste - I appreciate it's beauty and think you will look lovely in it, especially given your time of year and colors. I LOVE that it has sleeves for a winter wedding - it's perfect for it!!

Answer
If it's fine to wear white wear a white lace dress like this:
http://www.thisnext.com/item/BC301ED4/Blaque-Label-White-Lace-Dress

But here's a lovely black lace dress:
http://www.thisnext.com/browse/black-dress/lace/

And Just wear it with green pumps like these:
http://isooi.net/christian-louboutin-daffodile-160mm-satin-green-pumps-p-2626.html

The pumps are expensive, but you could get similar ones for way less.
Have fun at the wedding haha.
AND if you wear the white dress, don't wear green pumps, maybe just black ones and a green clutch like this:
http://www.kcmode.com/womens-designer-handbags---ladies-green-satin-pleated-box-evening-party-clutch-handbag-11544-p.asp

try to make the material on the pumps be the same on the bag.
Bye. (:

EDIT: Wear the white lace dress with a black belt like this:
http://ioptwh.info/black-bow-belt/black-satin-bow-belt-for-women

Wear it on your midsection just above your belly button. If the bag or shoes has silver or gold, try having that on the belt too, but only have it on either the shoe and belt or bag and belt. Don not mix silver and gold together !!
And I'm sorry if these are not age appropriate for you ! I just chose what would look well... Sorry. And if you're not comfortable showing your legs just wear black sheer tights.

What shoes and jewelry would look best with this dress?

lovesequin

I'm wearing this dress http://www.thelimited.com/detail/rosette-strapless-dress/3274768 at a wedding the day after christmas. I don't know if black shoes would match. Maybe silver would be better? What style of shoes? open toe, thin heel, etc?

Also, any jewelry options would be helpful as well.

Please help!! Thanks!

Answer
I think silver stilettos with a simple shorter beaded necklace or sliver chain would be hot. Since your shoes/dress combo would be striking (LOVE the dress btw, really pretty color) I would leave out earrings.

if you need a new necklace, since you're in a time crunch, I'd hit up forever21 for something ready to wear and wallet friendly.

In the future when you have more time and need to match an outfit, I suggest http://www.gemkitty.com/
You can design jewelry in their online 'workshop' and they make/ship to you.

does anyone know where to find a stuffed monkey that says "it's super monkey"?

it is a hanging monkey with blue and red colors.

Answer
You can go to build a bear workshop and make one. Its reasonably priced. Just pick your animal, they have a stuff machine, record and add a voice box, even dress it if you'd like. :) Good luck and have fun!!

How much does a wedding cost?

QT

On the average, how much does a typical wedding cost? you know, the usual stuff-cake, flowers, dress, tux, hall, food, etc. for only a small group of people though, like around 75-100

Answer
A wedding costs precisely as much as you're willing to spend on it.

People talk about how the national average cost of a wedding is well over $20,000, but that's the average of responses to a voluntary poll in the back of a bridal magazine. You can bet not a lot of people who held inimate backyard gatherings or were complete DIY queens answered that one!

Instead of worrying what the average is, figure out what you have available to spend and then see how far you can stretch that budget. And here are a few tips to make your budget stretch like rubber:

1: DIY is your friend. Many things that are common at weddings can be made at home. A simple bouquet is not difficult to tie. If you're unsure of your abilities, do a test run. Just stick to a simple style and you'll be okay. For instance, my bridesmaids and I carried sheaf-style bouquets. All we needed was long-stemmed flowers and some ribbon. That's it, and they looked beautiful. Also, carrying a single fabulous long-stemmed bloom means all you have to do is tie a ribbon. Self-catering can be simple and good. Again, just stick to easy foods and/or get some close friends and relatives to help out.

2: Don't fear unusual sources. If you find terrific vases or candle holders at the dollar store or a garage sale, snag them! Thrift stores sometimes have gorgeous wedding gowns going for $20 - $35. EBay has shops where you can get wedding and bridesmaids gowns made custom for a pittance. Seek out bargains, and they will come to you.

3: Slice clutter out of your budget. Sit down with your guy and decide on one or two things each you won't compromise on. This can be anything: the site you love, your gown, live music, the food you'd like to serve, literally anything. Once you have your shortlist of priorities, look at everything else. Cut back or cut out anything that doesn't matter to you, isn't legally necessary, and doesn't tend to the comfort of your guests. If you really don't care about flowers, cut them back to a minimum and don't apologize. You don't mind about limos? Don't have one. Cutting way back on how much food is available, however, is not a good idea. Hungry guests will grumble as they make their way out into the night to get a Micky D meal after your reception.

4: If it says 'wedding', you can get it cheaper elsewhere. And don't get personalized anything. Personalized ribbons don't cost that much...but once you have the ribbons and the matchbooks and the balloons, it adds up to budget busters.

5: Pick a pretty site, and ditch a lot of extra decorations. Because I was married in a gorgeous redwood grove, I was able to spend a mere $35 on flowers. We didn't need a lot of decorating. No crepe paper, no lights, no decorative items other than the flowers, either. So find a lovely spot and let it speak for itself. The local high school gym may come cheap, but it's going to cost a fortune to decorate and in the end it will look like a decorated gym.

6: In the end, the thing that really makes or breaks the day for most wedding guests is whether the bride and groom look relaxed and happy. Do whatever it takes to find your zen spot and be at peace with what you have created. Whether you need complete control over every detail (hey, it worked for me!) or want someone else to take everything off your hands, or something in between, find the approach that will allow you to have a good time at your wedding. After all, you only want to do this once, so you might as well enjoy it!

Best of luck to you and your intended! I'm sure you'll have a lovely wedding and a great marriage!

Homecoming Dress?

Jojo

Hello, I am looking for any websites that sell Homecoming dresses for under 50 dollars. Even formal dresses work too!

If you know any places in the Sacramento, CA area that sells dresses on clearance/sale for under $40, that'd work too!

Thanks!

Answer
I got my wedding dress off of eBay for around $75. I loved it too. You're probably to young to have an eBay account, but ask your parent or someone if they can help you out if you find a dress on there that you like.

Also, when I was in high school I found all my prom dresses on there; all for under $50.

Wedding dress altering after weight loss?

churchgirl

I purchased my ball gown style wedding dress and it is a size 14 (my current size) I knew I would have to get it altered anyways, but how many sizes can they alter the dress without it looking bad?

I have already lost 9 lbs and i have 36 lbs more to lose in order to reach a healthy weight. I carry my weight mostly in my legs, butt, and breasts. How many sizes would it take me down do you think? Im 5'6 if it helps to know :-)

Serious answers only, please and thank you :-)
I am a calorie counter - 1400 a day as well as at least 10 minutes of real sweating in the morning before work.

Ive been losing weight just fine, ive lost 9 lbs in 3 weeks!

I weigh 186 lbs and Im a 38 D

Answer
I bought my wedding dress in December. Since then I've lost 45 pounds. Now I can't even wear my dress. They can only alter dresses 2 sizes down. Any more then it will be a whole new dress and cost a fortune in altering. Plus, my dress was a plus size. By my wedding I'm planning on being a total of 65 pounds down. So now I have an extra wedding dress that I can't do anything with. Going to try and sell it on Ebay or something.

Looking to purchase a Formal Dress for a wedding?

vchic02

I am a plus size woman, and I need a dress for August. I know it is a ways away, but being plus size doesn't allow to me to just go to a regular store even around prom season to go to my nearest department store to find the dress of my dreams. Most dresses my size if I even find one, are suited to people in a older age. Please help!

Answer
I suggest you try ebay...I got my wedding gown and all of my bridesmaid dresses there for a very low price...shoes accessories and the works...

Suggestions on where to sell USED wedding gown?

r

I decided to sell a USED wedding dress that I bought recently for my wedding because it didn't fit the way I wanted. :( It looks brand new and the previous bride only wore it for a few hours. It was dry-cleaned.

Any suggestions on where I can sell it?
Thanks nova_...

Answer
With ebay you will have the fees and a possibility of someone buying your dress for not as much as you wanted to get from it.
With craigslist you will have to deal with women coming over to your house, trying on your dress and possibly not buying it.

My suggestion would be to use http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/ or http://www.oncewed.com/used-wedding-dresses/

make sure you look at their suggestions on how to accept payments

Survey: Is it bad luck to wear a used wedding gown?

r

I found the perfect dress this week-end. However, I am waiting until after my vacation to purchase it because it's a little more than I was willing to pay.

What's your opinion on wearing a USED wedding dress?
ching chong - WTH are you talking about?

Answer
I see nothing wrong with it. I mean, they're usually only worn once. That seems like such a waste to me. If you find the dress you love and it happens to be used, I think you are extra blessed.
