What color dress shirt and tie would go with a black suit?

Dave

So far i have a black suit with small pinstripes that aren't very noticeable. I also have black dress shoes. All i need now is a dress shirt and a tie. What colors would you prefer for a male with black hair and white skin.
I'm going to a wedding so i want to look clean.

Answer
a white shirt and any darker color tie, maybe go along with the wedding colors?

what ties(colors, patterns, etc.) go with white dress shirts & black suit?

mail2akl

can you point me to specific websites or provide some examples ? I tried performing a search but
couldn't really find what I was looking for.

Answer
Honestly, if you go to Men's Wearhouse, they have professional people that would help you match suits and ties and colored shirts.

Go there and you will have a lot of selections and you will also get other people's opinion in person.

Is this dress ok to wear as a wedding guest to church and the reception?

Willow

Ok this is what I have planned to wear to a wedding next week but I want some opinions on whether or not it's appropriate. is it ok to wear to both the church and reception? not sure about shiny clothes during the day.
With the dress I'll also have tights or stockings and ankle boots. I have the short jacket as well but in black.
The wedding is posh and formal with the girls in dresses and guys in suits.

http://www.icedesign.com.au/embroidered-chiffon-dress.html

http://www.icedesign.com.au/puff-shoulder-cardi.html

jacket is in black.

thanks
I'm 20 and the bride to be is around 26

Answer
I think if you are in your late teens/early 20s and this is your style, it will be great. I'm 26 and too old to pull off a trendy look like this, but I definitely don't think it's inappropriate - and I think the pattern on the dress is very cool. Since weddings are fancier than normal occasions, you can do sequins/shine/etc during the day.

I would do black opaque tights to balance the short skirt on the dress since you're going to be in a church.

Some ways to cut cost at your wedding.?

Southern B

I don't agree with some of these but I just copied them from Brides. It's called the $5000 club where brides have thrown fabulous weddings and receptions under $5k. I'll start with the Cheap, Not Chic part. See if you agree.

Cheap, Not Chic

>>Cash bar
>>E-mailing your thank you notes
>>Fake flowers
>>Renting fewer chairs than guests
>> Decorating with balloons and crepe paper
>>Skimping on staff tips
>> Faux (styrofoam) wedding cake
>>Cold cut sandwiches
>>Not feeding the DJ
>>Borrowing shoes that don't fit.
>>Asking guests to help pay for the wedding. (cash donations, an extended "dollar dance")

Ways to save big bucks!

>>Check with your friends to see if you can borrow thinks like a cake serving set. It keeps the tradition without you buying something you'll never use again.

>>You don't need a pricey guestbook. Buy a beautiful photography book and have guests sign the pages and use it as a coffee table book.

>>Consider making red one of your wedding colors. You can buy lots of red things after Valentines Day on sale for up to 75%. We filled clear vases with red crystals I found in the Valentines Day 75% off sale for .50 a bag when the same ones were at a more expensive place for $3 a bag!

>>I can't afford fancy invitations so I am designing my own. I am very savy with a computer and go to crane.com for impriintable inviations.

>>A friend of mine is getting certified as a minister. It saved us $500

>>We are having a small wedding cake so we can still feed each other, but buying a less expensive sheet cake to be cut in the kitchen so they guest won't know the difference.

>>I am saving money on flowers by shopping at a local farmers market to see what I can arrange with local farmers.

>> Depending on your wedding, you might want to check out local musicans instead of hiring a professional. We put flyers up at a local jazz club and saved almost $1000 with them instead of hiring a "wedding band" also check out local colleges. Just make sure you have auditions!

>>We rented a hall with it's own sound system. We hooked up our IPOD and saved $900. We asked guest in their invitations what songs they like so we had a variety of music playing.

>>Have your wedding at a State Park. It was $300 to rent the amphitheater for the ceremony and the beach house for the reception.

>>Change your wedding to a Friday or Sunday. Some venues drop dramatically in price on a Friday or Sunday.

OH and I added my own. I found a great website to order your flowers at discounted price. Since we are having a large wedding, with a large venue I was excited to see we could cut $5k off our flower budget by having our flowers ordered http://www.fiftyflowers.com
we are using the xtra cash for my daughters college fund.

Answer
I agree that all of the "Cheap Not Chic" ideas are just that -- not good no matter the savings, unless you want the Wal Mart of weddings.

Some people might say I had cold cut sandwiches at my wedding but it was very good meat -- smoked turkey, etc., and really nice cheese, with fresh baked buns, a special dressing the deli made for us, and other trimmings. It wasn't bologna and velveeta or anything. And my reception started around 2:30 p.m. so on an August afternoon in a private garden people wanted something light. No one complained...just saying....

Guest book -- if I was doing it today, I would have a photo booth and have guest b&w photos stuck in along with whatever notes they wanted to write in the margins.

Red -- actually that idea works for many colors. If you're having a fall wedding next year, you can get a lot of autumn themed, brown, gold, orange, red colored things in November on clearance. If you're having a winter wedding, you can shop after Christmas sales for not just red and green things but for wintry ivory, pearly, glittery things, too, and even black velvet. If you're having a spring wedding, you can get many pastel and floral things on sale in May, etc.

Invitations -- I know there are a lot of options these days and that desktop publishing can make many things look great, but the feel and look of an engraved invitation will never be replaced. If I was getting married now I would actually do hand calligraphy myself or have someone else do it -- if it was me it would be a simple clean font but still hand made and I think guests would feel special receiving it.

Minister -- wow -- they charge $500 and up??? I think we gave ours an honorarium of $50 that I assume has gone up to $100 or $150 by now. Not that the officiant is not a very important part, but really.

Wedding cake -- there are other ways to save on cake. Rather than going to a "wedding cake" bakery, try an ethnic one. We had a mexican "tres leches" (three milk) cake from a Mexican bakery -- very light and creamy with raspberry and lemon filling. They didn't have all the trendy shapes and colors but it was a quite elegant white cake that tasted amazing for about 1/3 what a wedding cake pastry baker would charge for a "real" wedding cake.

Also, our supermarket has displays of cakes from their bakery that look amazing and I am familiar with their cakes -- nothing over the top gourmet yet it's hard to mess up a marble cake with buttercream frosting. If it was me, I wouldn't spend thousands of dollars on cake ever, and I'm kind of a food snob.

I have been to an iPod wedding. I didn't miss the DJ. If it was me, I would get a band, and probably a local jazz combo rather than a "wedding" cover band.

Yeah...everyone should shop around for venues. My husband was a genius finding the private garden we had for our ceremony and reception and I would marry there again in a heartbeat.

Flowers. I went with traditional bouquets from a traditional florist for my wedding and probably spent too much. However, I saved big on centerpieces and decorations as I was married in a floral paradise that didn't need extra adornment.

How can I remove rust like stains from a 40 yr old taffeta wedding gown?My daughter wants to wear in August.?

nanmalt

This gown was professionly cleaned & stored in a "Preservation Box" layered with blue tissue and sealed. It was also put into a heavy plastic bag. It was stored in a closet and never opened until my daughter came home to try on for her wedding. The stains are on the front of the dress and are quite large. (12X12) I don't know what they are, but the dress didn't have these stains while worn 44 years ago. The cleaners said they can't remove the stains. My daughter wants to get married in my dress. PLEASE HELP ME!
Thank you to all who gave me advise on my problem. I tried the Oxy Clean but it didn't work as well as an old standby that I used, to get stains out of my children's bibs. 1 part Clorex color-safe dry bleach & 1 part dry dishwasher detergent. It worked great. The stains are gone & the dress is really white now.

Answer
I work at David's Bridal and have done minor cleaning on taffeta dresses. We use a product called Everbloom, but we only use it on make-up and dirt stains. In case you don't know ANY LIQUID may leave a ring on taffeta, the only way to avoid this is to wet the whole garment. The First thing you need to do is call the preservation company you used many have life long warranties. Call around and try to have it professionally cleaned again, I don't recommend doing it your self DO NOT STEAM THE DRESS! Good Luck!

Should a woman who is almost 40 wear a 'youthful' or a 'matronly' gown for her wedding?

Q. I'm 39, and I'm getting married for the second time. I was 28 when I married my first husband, and I wore a classic ball gown for my wedding. Now that I'm marrying my last and best love, I still want to look fabulous on my wedding day. My mother thinks I should 'cover up' now that I'm older, and I told her that I'm to young to dress in a sack for my wedding day.

This is the style of dress that I'm considering: http://www.alfredangelo.com/collections/productdisplay.aspx?productID=80b57910-62e4-406f-8dbc-9d31eadb4835&categoryID=772f03c9-de43-4942-bfa0-da77e21ebd65&pg=1&colorId1=

My mother thinks I should go for something like: thishttp://www.alfredangelo.com/collections/productdisplay.aspx?productID=955f32ef-8c9b-4f9f-a513-e821ac390068&categoryID=01192db8-bf9e-425c-a67c-e0e9484157ae&pg=2&colorId1=

I love my mother dearly, but there is no way that I'm wearing a dress like that for my wedding. It's to old, and to matronly.
@ joinme4coffee, I don't know where you got the idea that I'm not an independent person. I happen to be very close to my mom, and I love her dearly. But her idea of what is 'appropriate' and mine are very different. I was just asking a very general question.

@ Garnet Glitter: Which one is appropriate?

Answer
It is YOUR wedding day. My 56 year old mother has a body most 25 year olds would kill for. If you have the right assets to wear a style you love, then age is not a factor. The dress you've picked is, in my opinion, a bit plain and a little 'young'. I would give that to a junior bridesmaid. You want to SHINE, not blend in. The cut is only flattering on certain body types so beware of that.
Because you are an older bride (NOT an old woman by any means!) and because it is a second marriage, I would steer clear of crazy poofy over the top gowns, but that doesn't mean you CAN'T wear them.
Here are my suggestions:

I like this because it has all the fun of strapless without actually being strapless. No boob slips. Train could easily be bustled. http://www.alfredangelo.com/collections/productdisplay.aspx?productID=b864305c-3857-4765-a10e-8b971018aeb1&categoryID=32e5a88c-cbf1-498f-afcf-dbfca138c5d3&pg=1&colorId1=

This is a similar cut to the gown you liked and the lace is pretty and classy. I also love that it has buttons and not a corset back. More age appropriate and timeless. http://www.alfredangelo.com/collections/productdisplay.aspx?productID=5e12251f-f149-4858-a2b2-841f17d09c8d&categoryID=32e5a88c-cbf1-498f-afcf-dbfca138c5d3&pg=2&colorId1=

This is a more traditional gown with crisp, clean lines http://www.alfredangelo.com/collections/productdisplay.aspx?productID=39ff2ae7-c141-4c13-ab73-74af04dd1cc6&categoryID=32e5a88c-cbf1-498f-afcf-dbfca138c5d3&pg=6&colorId1=

It's possible to add a lace bolero, a shawl, etc. to keep your arms covered while in church (if there is a church involved), but there is nothing that says you've reached X age and now must wear a potato sack. You need to look AND feel pretty on your wedding day. Stay true to your own style. Your mother can dress, well, matronly.

Do I dare wear white?

perfect_bl

I am looking at champagne or ivory, pink and either light green or saphire blue for my summer wedding next year. Do I dare wear a white dress with these colors? I don't mind standing out a bit, but don't want it to look odd.

Also, opinions on a pale green vs. saphire blue?

It is an outdoor wedding, not too formal, but my dress is going to be a strapless ball gown type.

Thanks!!!
I meant I'm debating if my white dress will look odd next to the off white color.

Answer
It's all about shading.

Shades of white can be really gorgeous together, so long as you make sure the shades are different enough that it's clear you were trying for different shades and didn't just make a mistake in picking them. Make sure there's contrast. If the contrast isn't strong enough, you can also have everyone in the same shade of white and use touches of another color to brighten the whole scheme and add visual interest. That's what I did, and it looked great.

White is going to look perfectly fine next to pale green, pink, or sapphire blue. No caveats. It's just going to look nice.

My personal preference between light green and sapphire blue is sapphire blue...but that's me. I happen to prefer darker shades and adore blue. In your case, you should consider what color makes you happier, and also what color is likely to be more flattering to your bridesmaids.

It's also perfectly possible to combine a deep blue and a light green to make a pretty wedding color palette.

Color is one of the most enjoyable aspects of planning a wedding. Have fun with it!

Ivory vs. white question?

Mel

My wedding color is ivory. I will have an ivory dress and the flower girl will be in ivory as well. However, the ring bearer will have a white dress shirt (not ivory). Is it ok for him to carry a white ring bearer pillow instead of an ivory one?

Answer
My dress is off-white too (diamond white) because it goes better with my complexion. I had the same question about the tuxedo shirts. Someone here made a really good point that for the shirts - and for the ring pillow too - you really want it to be bright white so it doesn't look dirty. So go with the white pillow and don't worry about having everything match your ivory dress.

Wear a minimalistic yellow dress. It will compliment your fair skin and light brown hair. It is a vibrant, sunny color, and will match your happy personality. I can tell by the smiley faces.

Alternative and Different Year 12 Formal Dress Ideas?

Blub.

Everyone tries to stand out with bright colours and such......
I want to stand out yet still look beautiful.
I want something that accentuates my tall lanky frame.
I want something different with personality, a punky, vintage edge.

INSPIZ
Agyness Deyn
Zooey Deshanel
Vivienne Westwood

I don't want to wear trashy 'punk'...Avril Lavigne styled accessories such as fishnet gloves. fail. Thats what people said the last lime I asked this.

I don't want a PUNK dress. Its hard to explain! Punk isn't the word I want to use but its the only one I can think of.
...I just need some ideas for inspiration.

Answer
Formal dresses that exude personality have an identifying feature to make it different:
- Flowing skirts will look dramatic and ethereal.
- Short skirts or cocktail dresses will look flirty and fun.
- Form fitting dresses will emphasize your height and curves.
- Bare-backed dresses are sexy.
- Dresses with slits in the skirt really show self-confidence.

Here are some vintage- or dramatic-looking dresses that I think are quite beautiful and stand out:

Flowing skirt: http://www.frenchnovelty.com/p/NM6029/Night+Moves+Black+White+Pleated+Prom+Dress+6029.html

Cocktail:

Form fitting: http://www.frenchnovelty.com/p/NM6082/Night+Moves+Shimmering+Taffeta+Prom+Dress+6082.html

Bare-back:

Skirt slit:

http://www.frenchnovelty.com/p/TBL110548/Tony+Bowls+Le+Gala+Prom+Dress+110548.html

I encourage you to browse that website further! Just try to pick a part of you that you really want to accentuate: your legs, your back, your collarbone or neckline and work from there! When choosing a color, consider what tones suit your skin, eye color, and hair color best.

And a trick I use to always get compliments at formal events? I get my hair done professionally and find a way to have my stylist add a live flower in my hair (you'll have to bring your own flower, of course!) I had a chignon with a white and pink-tinged moon orchid for a prom; for another formal event, I had loose curls gathered into a low side-ponytail and had a red rose tucked to conceal the hair tie; I once had the hair at my temples twisted back, tied like a half-ponytail with a white daisy for a wedding. Just make sure the flower color matches your dress palette!

Best of luck!

did you ever regrett not having the kind of wedding you wanted?

FireCracke

I have been with my fiancé for 8 years. We have been engaged for two of those 8 years. I am 22 weeks pregnant and ideally wanted to be married before having a baby. But that's it. So, I brought it up to him about wanting to get married so that our lil one will have a complete family. We planned for 2015 to give us enough time to save up and get everything read for the baby and remodel our basement and garage. To make a long story short, we contacted a few places and we're looking at 25,000 for 70 people. I'm American and he's Canadian so, the wedding would be back in New Orleans. And that's not including my gown, tux, and ect. So, we started talking about Vegas and whoever wanted to come was welcome. I know it would be exciting but my mom wouldn't be there. She's old fashioned enough. She won't even come for the birth of her granddaughter/or son in Nov. And we were paying for everything for her to come. I don't mind getting married in Vegas, just wish my family would attend, that's all. Has anyone else dealt with something similar?

Answer
why in the world would you want to pay 25000 for only 70 people in new orleans? there are tons of places to have a much cheaper wedding than that right in new orleans so you don't have to give up the wedding you want.

for instance, these places would cost you less with food, drink and all the tables, linens and everything you need as well as including the location rent, than 5000 dollars for 70 people.

http://www.houseofbroel.com/index.html the cost for a wedding ceremony and reception in this lovely spot is 49.95 per person. for 70 people that would be around 3500 dollars.

http://www.smiliesrestaurant.com/ only charges 31.95 per person for their wedding packages and that includes open bar too.

http://www.benachihouse.com/ rents on saturdays for 2250 and any other day of the week for 1750. your catering can be from any licensed catering company so if you use http://www.copelandsofneworleans.com/ you can get them starting at only 14.95 per person.

http://www.therosegarden.com/ is only 30 dollars per person.

there are tons more but really, spending 25000 on a wedding for only 70 people is just ridiculous.

what can I start planning for my wedding.?

Victoria

I have been engaged for 5 months and have looked at dresses (bridal and bridesmaids), looked at churches, gone to wedding expo's, set a date, chose colors and started my guest list and my wedding isn't until 12/12/2015. What should I do?

Answer
Did you actually book the church, along with a reception location? If not, then your date is not actually set. You need to book those things before you actually have a wedding date.

You have a TON of time until December 2015.

You shouldn't be looking at bridal gowns now. Styles will change between now and the time when you actually need to order it (early/mid-2015). And you may gain or lose weight in the meantime, or even get pregnant. More than likely, your mind will change on the style you want, I promise you.

You should DEFINITELY not be doing anything in regards to a bridal party yet. Don't ask anyone or even hint that they might be in it. Say NOTHING to anyone about a bridal party until about 10 months before the wedding date. If you've already jumped the gun and asked them, well then, just tell them that they will get some details within a year of the wedding and then do not involve them in the planning until then. You don't need to shop for bridesmaid dresses until 4-6 months before the wedding (for all of the reasons I listed above), and tuxes/suits only need about 2 months max.

You can draft a rough guest list now, but DO NOT tell anyone that they're invited just yet. Do not send out Save the Date cards until maybe 8 months before the wedding (you actually don't need them at all ... they're mainly for destination weddings, and people who want to show off their engagement photos on cutesy little magnets, barf). Draft a rough list now so that you know what you can afford and how big of a hall to book and how much food to order, but understand that your guest list will definitely change a bit within two years. Trust me.

Have you and your fiance set a budget yet? If not, do that right now.

Book now: church, reception hall (without these things, your date isn't set and you can't hire anyone else). The church will talk to you about Pre-Cana or pre-marital counseling.

OK to book within the next year or so: photographer, videographer, florist, DJ or band, limos

Wait until you're under a year: ask the bridal party, order invitations, order favors (or skip them, they're not mandatory), book a honeymoon, set up a hotel block for guests, buy the bridal gown and accessories, set up a gift registry (but DO NOT organize your own shower or ask anyone to throw you one!!! Sit back, keep your mouth shut, and see what happens), book your hair and makeup artists and go for trials

Wait until 6 months or less: buy the bridesmaids' dresses, rent tuxes or get suits for the men, get outfits for any children in the wedding party, finalize guest list, rehearsal dinner venue, buy the rings

2 months out: send out invitations, make sure you have final payments (including tax!) available for the vendors, make sure your shoes are comfortable and broken in

1 month out: touch base with vendors, and make sure to set aside gratuities for vendors. Make welcome bags for the guests staying in hotels (optional)

Sexy beach casual wedding dress?

preciosa10

I'm looking for a vneck or halter wedding dress to wear for my beach wedding. Please give me some suggestions.
I'm looking for a dress that has a sweep train. I wear a size 4- 6 in dresses.

Answer
If money is tight, I suggest you look at the wedding gowns in secondhand thrift stores. My sister got a $4,000 dress for $60.00. The money she saved on that one purchase paid for her veil, her shoes, her stockings, her alterations, and the dress drycleaning.

If it's a beach wedding, why don't you just go with a white bathing suit and lace wrap-around skirt over it? That way when the ceremony is over, you could peel off the skirt and "take the plunge" LITERALLY !!! ;-)

Which wedding gown is better for pirate beach wedding?

Megan

We're having a pirate-themed destination wedding with two ceremonies -- a "sacred" ceremony on a beach followed by a sunset pirate cruise where we'll be wed by a ship's captain. Wanted a dress that can look a bit more traditional for the sacred ceremony and then accessorized with belt, lace shawl and hat for the pirate ceremony. I think I've found the perfect dress to fit the bill, but don't know if ivory or white would be better. Ivory would be a more "period" costume, but I would like to wear white for my wedding and think the white would look better for the daylight beach wedding against the turquoise waters and palm trees. The dress doesn't have a train which I wanted, but perhaps it would be better not to have a train for a beach wedding anyway. So, here's the dress -- http://www.goldwo.com/ball-gown-multilayer-sweetheart-tulle-satin-wedding-dress-p6296.html -- Whaddya think -- ivory or white? And any suggestions about train, no train? Also, if you have any ideas for shoes, I'd love to hear those, too. Thanks everyone!

Answer
Not sure what the point in doing two ceremonies in the same place, minus one being on a boat, and not sure what a "sacred" ceremony is.

But I think the wedding dress is cool. I would wear black boots for the pirate wedding, and if you're on a beach for one ceremony, I would wear something flat, high heels will not be easy to walk in on sand.

Answer
An Elegant Halloween Wedding Theme
Glowing candles, grinning pumpkins and a moonlit night. What a great beginning for a Halloween Wedding. Most people can easily turn a Halloween party into a wedding, however, consider adding some polish to this special night. Here are some suggestions that incorporate elegance with pure Halloween fun.

Wedding Party Attire

Bride:

A slim fitting dress in the Mortica (Addams Family) style would work nicely. You may also choose to have your gown choice died black or red. Add a black cape with red lining, black veil and long, sleek black gloves.

Bridesmaids:

Slim fitting black, red, or orange dresses with matching capes or sheer long scarves. Instead of a regular neckline, consider having a seamstress add a high, stiff collar to frame their faces. Use tiara's in their hair or matching ribbons.

Groom and groomsmen:

Wear black tuxedos with red cummerbunds. Another option would be black shirts, black slacks and a red-lined black cape with high collar and black top hat with cane (old-fashioned Dracula style).

Suggested Halloween Wedding Bouquets

Carry blood red or black roses. If you've decided to use orange as a wedding color, you may wish to opt for orange colored flowers such as: Orange Hawkweed, Day Lily's, Tiger Lily's, Orange/Yellow Freesia's, Orange Roses, Orange Poppy's. Remember that you can often get a variety of flowers dipped or dyed to suit your wedding colors.

Halloween Wedding Centerpieces

Decorate hollowed out gourds or small pumpkins with black, red, orange and/or yellow flowers. Add a few props to the arrangement, such as small scarecrows, plastic pumpkins, small ghosts, gold stars or moon, etc.

You could also hollow out miniature pumpkins and insert a votive or pillar candle inside.

Create miniature tombstones from Styrofoam painted dark grey. Add a catchy epitaph and decorate the base with a miniature flower bouquet.

Orange and black pillar candles in varying heights placed on small round mirrors. Tie a coordinating ribbon bow around the base of the candle. Scatter a few fake leaves in autumn colors on the mirror.

Use wrought-iron style candelabras with taper candles.

Halloween Theme Wedding Decorations

Decorate doorways and the front of tables with black and orange, red or yellow crepe paper. Or drape with black netting and added contrasting bows where the netting is secured. You could also wrap your main tables in miniature twinkle lights under the tulle.

Get large dead branches (don't cut live trees) and use as tree props. Add white, yellow or orange miniature twinkle lights to the branches. Secure in pots filled with sand and covered with shiny orange or black wrapping paper. Place around room.

As an extra added effect, hang strings of black lights around the bar area, rest rooms and doorways.

Make a large round moon from cardboard covered with shiny yellow foil paper and secure from the ceiling. Add a "flying witch" next to it. Create additional atmosphere with hanging bats and gold stars. If you could set this up near a wall that you've covered with black material, it would look awesome.

Place a coffin in one corner of the room (you can easily make one from large cardboard boxes and paint it black). Add Dracula to the coffin by stuffing a dark suit with a white shirt, adding a cape and placing a Dracula mask over a balloon. Then make a coffin for "Mrs. Dracula". You could also make several tombstones from cardboard boxes, paintthem in grey and/or black, add a funny epitaph and make a small graveyard.

Instead of your usual grinning jack-o-lantern, consider having pumpkins carved in unique designs. There are many patterns available and they would provide a unique touch to your wedding. Place the pumpkins throughout the room, but be sure if you are using candles that they are not near anything flammable and cannot easily be tipped over. Better yet, consider using a battery-powered light or one that can be plugged in nearby.

Cover the top of the tables in black or midnight blue tablecloths. Decorate these with gold sparkled fabric pens in the shapes of stars, suns and moons (use stencils that can be bought for stenciling walls with paint).

Place a large cauldron on the main serving table and add dry ice to create a smoke effect. (Do not use this to serve drinks from).

Creepy Entertainment For Your Wedding

Hire a fortuneteller to dress up as a gypsy and give short readings. You can opt to pay for this and come up with a set price for the evening or have guests pay for their own readings. Be sure they are kept short (5 to 10 minutes) and that the price reflects this.

Have the DJ play songs such as the Monster Mash, Ghostbusters, Thriller, and other suitable Halloween songs throughout the evening.

Halloween Wedding Party Favors

Use the traditional Halloween treat bags and fill with Halloween candy.

What to do with an old wedding gown?

Everybody'

We are divorced as of last week, but I still have my wedding dress. It's pretty, was designed and custom made for me. I've never sold anything on e-bay although I tried. I no longer have sentimental reasons to keep it, and I don't want my (non-existing) daughter to wear it.
I have a whole bunch of stuff from my "past life", any advise on that? I already gave him back all his stuff.

Answer
Post an ad in the paper or online... but don't charge anything for the dress. Give it to someone who really can use it. You will profit more from turning a bad memory into someone else's happy future, who can benefit from a nice dress. Many brides would love to have something nice to wear but can't afford it. Then you've made someone happy and given yourself some good karma too :)

Ines de Santo wedding gowns!!!?

Future Mrs

Does anyone have any idea how much the Ines de Santo Betti gown costs?Isn't it just gorgeous!!!
Thanks for your help!
http://www.inesdisanto.com/collections/ad_campaign_2006/bettie.html
Aghh..i just called a store in my area that carries it and it is a whooping $4000-5000...aghh i am so sad totally out of my budget!! a girl can dream can't she!!!
Thanks April for taking the time and searching dresses!! i already had maggie sottero in mind because her prices are not bad. But the Mori Lee one was also very nice!! Thanks Again!

Answer
Ines De Santo makes beautiful wedding gowns. The one that you have choosen is absolutely beautiful.
Every bridal store has different prices for their gowns - but the not lists this particular dress as being in the "expensive" range $$$$ - $3001-$5000
I would call around to some bridal shops in your area and see if you can find that gown. You may also want to try some used bridal gown websites. Sometimes brides will see their slightly used dresses for a good price.
Good luck!

I know that it's expensive, but maybe you can find something that is similar. It has a dropped waist and a strapless neckline - perhaps you can do an advanced search for it on the knot or brides.com
Here are a few that are somewhat similar:

Wedding report card?

Blunt

Ladies,

I just attended a wedding in Cali, and have two more to go this wedding season. I though that it would be fun to share some of the high and low lights of the event for all of you brides from a guest's perspective.

Feel free to add comments and share youe own wedding report card, if you have been to one recently.

Venue: A Lovely outdoor lodge by the river,
Favors: D Got stupid Cd's. Nobody cared for them and left most of them behind
Invitations: C Pretty design, but assembled poorly and in a hurry. A DIY proyect gone wrong.
Wedding dress: Totally fabulous
Flowers: A+ Over $5000 spend of orchids and roses.
BM dresses: A+ Very trendy and gorgeaus
Food: C- No variety, not enough. Guests dined on mostly veggies and bowtie pasta.
Liquour: A+ Open bar, yeah baby.
The low light: The money dance. Why ??on a 30k wedding.
The highlight: Slide show of pictures of the bride and groom
Cake: B Beautiful and tasty.
Manners: C
Overall: C+
I believe that money could have been spend a little better,. They put way to much attention to centerpieces and colocr schemes, but neglected important areas such a s food and propper ettiquete. No receiving line, no greeting the guests at the tables.
read my question. This is a guide for the brides who are looking for IDEAS and to see how money is better spent. and how not to spent too much attention, money and stress in unncesesary items.
And I do disagree with some of you, a wedding is a party and you are supposed to make yoru guest feel welcomed. I spend over $2000 to attend their wedding and the least you can expect is a "thank you for coming to my wedding".
And for all the haters, don't feel too jealous. I do have a very active social life and have back-to-back upscale events. If you cannot relate to wedding ettiquette and parties, there are plenty of other question out there for the bitter and lonely people.

Answer
Ha, I love the idea of a wedding report card! (As long as it's done anonymously.)

Venue: A Outdoors at a lovely hotel.
Favors: A They didn't have any! Fine with me!
Invitations: D Sent out just a few weeks before the wedding. (Fortunately, I already knew the info ahead of time.) Not very pretty. And the groom's divorced parents were put on there as "Mr. and Mrs. X as opposed to having their own lines."
Wedding Dress: B Nice, but not fabulous.
Flowers: NA, they didn't have any. Kind of a rock garden/bonsai thing going as centerpieces.
Food: C A brunch buffet with some salad, quiche , pasta, and a few other things.
Vegan-Friendly: C I could eat salad and fruit.
Cake: F Left out in the sun from before the ceremony started, and through the meal. A food safety risk. I wouldn't have gone near the cake even if I wasn't vegan.
Alcohol: None, which was fine with me, as I don't drink.
music: Nice, 3 piece string band.
Low Light: The cake
Highlight: Beautiful outdoor wedding with weather that couldn't be more perfect.
Thank you note afterwards: C I had sent a check + a gift. I only received a thank you note for the gift sent well before the wedding, (after the wedding) but they did deposit the check.
Guest Manners: A- Great except for the one mother who didn't walk off with her noisy baby during the ceremony.
Couple's Manners: B-
Overall: B-

What country has the most interesting wedding traditions?

Honey

Tell me about where you come from.. or even family traditions!

Answer
Many of the Eastern European customs that follow the wedding ceremony are meant to deliver the couple to their new home and to help them establish a domestic partnership. Here are just a few of the colorful traditions.

THE FIRST STEP
In Romanian villages, the women watch the newlyweds as they emerge from the church; if the bride steps out first, she will rule the household. This hearkens back to a time when the couple would have been presented with a circular loaf of bread with a hole in the middle. The couple would look up at the sky through the hole and then break it in half. Like a domestic wishbone, whoever got the larger piece would be dominant in the home.

PASSING THE TORCH
Yugoslavian Krusevacs journey to the house of the groom's parents after the ceremony. There, in front of all the guests, the bride must sit on her mother-in-law's lap while a young man from the groom's party sprinkles water from a pitcher onto the floor. This signifies the transfer of the mother's role as the groom's caregiver to his new wife. For his part in the service, the young man is given a pair of socks by the bride -- what a lucky guy.

BABY FEVER
Latvian grooms observe the custom of carrying the bride over the threshold -- only with an added twist. A plate is placed on the threshold, upside down and covered with a linen towel. As the groom carries the bride over, he steps on the plate, breaking it. Legend has it that the number of pieces it breaks into determines how many children they will have. This is usually an occasion to tease the newlyweds, since the plate shatters into dozens of pieces. Later, the bride might be presented with a small tub of warm water and a naked doll with mustard smeared on its behind so that she may prove that she will be able to bathe her children.

IN ITALY ...

When: In Italy, wedding festivities usually kick off in the morning, ideally on a Sunday. According to regional Italian folklore, you should never marry (or leave for your honeymoon) on a Friday or Tuesday, or youâre bound to have loads of bad luck, while Saturdays are reserved for widows getting hitched to husband number two (or three, or four ...).
Attire: Donât bother with makeup since in addition to a white gown, youâll wear a veil -- a symbol of virginity (donât worry, itâs just for show). Tearing the veil, however, is considered good luck (Why? Just use your imagination). Meanwhile, the groom can lug a piece of iron (preferably a small one) in his pocket to ward off evil spirits.
Activities: Traditional Italian brides and grooms forgo the limo and make it to the chapel on foot. In certain villages, residents throw symbolic obstacles in your path to suss out your future as man and wife: If a broom lands at your feet and you pick it up, for example, youâll be one helluva housecleaner. After the wedding ceremony, the couple shatters a glass or vase -- and does their best to pulverize it, since the number of pieces represents the amount of years theyâll stay happily married. If someone hands you a double-handed saw, you and the groom must cut a log in half to prove you can work together without driving each other insane.
The Food: A roasted baby pig or lamb accompanied by wanda, bow ties of fried dough dipped in powdered sugar. Women sip Marsala wine, men guzzle the much stronger grappa (go ahead and guess whoâs in store for a hangover). Confetti -- sugar-covered almonds (or Jordan almonds, as we know them) representing the bitter and sweet of life -- serves as snacks or, yes, projectiles thrown at the newlyweds as they make their exit.
The music: Possibly a jaunty jig called the tarantella. Legend has it that a woman who was once bitten by a poisonous tarantula cured herself by shakinâ her booty better than Beyoncé on a very good day. The least it can do for you is to keep you from passing out due to too much Marsala.
Added Perk: Money -- lots of it. Forget toasters and towels: Guests place cold, hard cash in a white satin bag called la borsa.

IN CHINA ...

When: Depends on your astrologer. Chinese couples may consult a fortune-teller to find a favorable date derived from their birth dates.
Attire: Brides may forgo the white wedding gown in lieu of a fire-engine red silk dress thatâs intricately embroidered with a dragon and phoenix. If you think choosing one dress is tough, check this out: Chinese brides buy as many dresses as their budgets allow and change from one to the other throughout the wedding to show their family is not strapped for cash.
Activities: At the break of dawn on the big day, your loyal bridesmaids get to give your husband-to-be a hard time, forcing him to negotiate his way into your house. Once your gal pals are satisfied with his offerings and deem him worthy of entering, a ritual tea is served to your family while you and your honey drink wine out of goblets that are tied together with red string or paper, which signifies your bond.
The Food: Leave room for a 10- to 12-course banquet -- another way families flaunt their wealth. The flashiest dish served is sharkâs fin soup, which will drain anyoneâs bank account quickly at $150 per guest. Other delicacies include birdâs nest soup (yes, made from real birdsâ nests) and a whole fish, which is served because the word for fish, yu, sounds similar to the word for abundance.
The Music: Guests get in touch with their wild sides and enjoy a performance called the lion dance, in which performers dressed as powerful felines sway to the beat of drums, gongs, and cymbals to scare away evil spirits.
Added Perk: Even after the wedding feast, guests traditionally follow the couple into their bedroom, making as much noise as possible and taunting them. Then, as if they need any prompting, the newlyweds are encouraged into faux acts of intimacy as part of the game. Guests typically try to stay in the room for three days -- or as long as they can before the privacy-starved couple kicks them out. Call it a perk or a complaint, but youâll get plenty of time with your friends!

IN MEXICO ...

When: In the evening around 9 p.m.
Attire: The bride might don a brightly colored, Flamenco-style dress with ruffles at the hem. But the groom gets off easy: Rather than sweating to death in a tux, heâll most likely wear a guayabera. This light, short-sleeved shirt is not only perfect for tropical temperatures, itâs a Latin symbol of masculine elegance. Some guys take this to the nth degree by dressing like a matador, with a bolero and those cute, snug-fitting pants.
Activities: During the ceremony, the groom offers his bride 13 gold coins, called arras, which stand for Christ and his apostles (or you could just say they represent a groomâs promise to keep you knee-deep in furs and all sorts of other finery). Following the vows, the priest wraps a lasso, a large rosary, or a band of flowers in a figure eight around the couple to symbolize their eternal unity.
The Food: Spicy rice, beans, and tortillas. Save room for the wedding cake, which is made with nuts and dried fruit -- and soaked in enough rum to get everyone slurring during their toasts.
The Music: As the bride and groom dance, guests gather around in the shape of a heart. Then things can get a little saucy: The couple forms an arch with their upheld arms, and single women dancing la vibora (the snake dance) pass through until the couple captures one of them. Then the single guys dance until one gets caught and lays claim to the brideâs garter belt. You know what happens from there.
Added Perk: Bridal servants called madrinas (godmothers) are at your beck and call, making the plans and arranging bouquets -- so you donât need to lift a finger.

IN SWEDEN ...

When: A liberal bunch, Swedes often decide to marry after living together for a few years, or after the woman is pregnant with their first child. With almost 20 hours of sunlight each day, summer is prime wedding season.
Attire: A crown belonging to the brideâs family or church, and, although it hardly sounds comfortable, a gold coin in your right shoe and a silver one in your left for good luck. Making walking even harder, your shoes stay unlaced to improve your chances of easy childbirth.
Activities: If you want to follow a seriously old-school tradition, breathe as little as possible, since brides and bridesmaids carry bouquets of weeds that stink to high heaven in order to ward off trolls (donât knock it -- trolls havenât crashed anyoneâs wedding so far). According to another old tradition, men dance vigorously around the bride to knock her crown off, and the victor has good luck.
The Food: The traditional Swedish smorgasbord lasts for three days and can include sill (herring), lingonsylt (lingonberry jam), and köttbullar (Swedish meatballs).
The Music: Throughout dinner, all of the guests sing drinking songs -- and they are also welcome to give speeches or toasts in honor of the new couple.
Added Perk: A Swedish woman gets two gold rings: one for engagement and one for marriage, with the engagement and wedding dates engraved on the inside.

IN MOROCCO ...

When: Moroccans commonly celebrate weddings on Sundays in the fall at the end of the harvest, when thereâs plenty of food to feast on.
Attire: Lots of color, including yellow (it scares away the evil eye) and green (itâll bring good luck). Plus, youâll get some intricate temporary henna tattoos on your hands and feet.
Activities: Better keep your schedule wide open -- Moroccan weddings can last up to seven days. The first three days are spent preparing and partying. On the fourth, a sheik unites the couple. On the fifth and sixth, more parties. On the seventh, the bride is held aloft in front of friends and family and then placed in the arms of her groom, signaling the end of the ceremony. The couple departs in a shower of figs and raisins but even then, it isnât over: Once she arrives at her new home, the bride might circle the house three times to establish ownership before she can go to sleep.
The Food: Fish and chicken, ancient symbols of fertility, are often served. Guests may also dig into tajine (a chicken stew mixed with almonds, apricots, onions, and other spices thatâs served with pita bread) and plenty of those candy-covered almonds, which are considered aphrodisiacs.
The Music: Belly dancers often usher the bride and groom into the reception in a parade formation called the zeffa. There, guests may also boogie down to the Middle Eastern sounds of drums, tambourines, and a string instrument called a zither.
Added Perk: Sure the weddingâs exhausting, but Moroccan brides do get to indulge -- namely, in massages and milk baths to purify themselves for the big day (er, week).

Does anyone know who designs this dress, or where I can find it?

Q. The site does not give any of that information and I absolutely love it!

Chicagoland wedding dress under $600?

Liv

I'm looking for a mermaid, trumpet, or drop waist wedding gown with a nice fabric under $600. I've been to davids, jasmine's and fell in love with a dress from Wolsfelts(sp) but it was $1,000. I can't imagine spending more than $600 for a dress...any good places local or far! Wedding is in October, this year... Thanks and help! ;-)

Answer
Have you considered looking at formal and bridesmaid dresses? I bought my wedding dress for $350au. It is a beautiful 'grecian' design, very simple and classic but well cut and fit perfectly and I ordered it in ivory. It looks stunning on, and when I looked at similar dresses in a wedding boutique they were several times more expensive, and I couldn't see the difference (except they were covered in too much glitz and glitter - ugh! cheap and tacky!). Neither my mum, sister or friend guessed that it wasn't a 'wedding dress'.
