what do you do about a future mother in law making you wear her family heirloom for the wedding?

I am wearing a beautiful chantily lace wedding gown and wearing my great grandmothers pearls with nothing else. My fiance's mother has told her son that I will wear her familys necklace for the ceremony what do I do?

Answer
I'm assuming your grandmother's pearls are a necklace (not a bracelet or earrings, etc)? If that's the case, this is very easy. You already have a necklace. Ask her how she feels if you were to carry it instead, perhaps wrap it around the base of your bouquet or something?

I understand - what you wear on this day of all days should be 100% your choice. If she was asking to to carry a handkerchief or something, I'd say just humor her, it's not worth anyone having their feelings hurt. But if there is any way that you can incorporate her family heirloom without compromising the look you're going for, I think you should try. :)

If that won't work - just stand your ground, decline politely, and be as nice as possible about it. She's just excited about her son's big day and wants to be part of things. I'm sure her heart is in the right place even if her manners aren't!

Does anyone know how to whiten old lace?

momP

My daughter is wanting to use the lace from her Grandmother's wedding gown. It is turned almost to an off white instead of pure white. Does anyone know if I can clean it with something to whiten? Or maybe just take to the cleaners?

Answer
Oxy clean worked for me! I used it on my grandmother's old doily and it worked great!

The shop I'm buying it from didn't have a veil to go with it, so I'm going to find my own. I was thinking fingertip or elbow, but not sure which would be best based on the gown's train. Also, anyone have any suggestions for what kind of edge?

Answer
Elbow length. Cut edge or a very thin pencil edge

I have really long, dark, thick gorgeous hair (when its fixed lol) should I wear it up or down for my wedding?

My ceremony is outdoors and the reception is indoors. I want the wedding to be elegant/rustic it will be in Austin in June next year... Updo or down, or half up? My sister says down, I think I would feel more elegant with it up though..

Im wearing the Enzoani Dulcina (2009) collection gown, google it, its strapless.

I was wondering can plus size women have a nice wedding.?

Michelle

I'm currently married now. Me and husband got married at the county court right before his grandmother passed 4 years ago. I would love to have a nice wedding but the only problem i have with myself is that i'm plus size. I'm not big to the point where i can't walk and can't fit in a car or chair. People say that i'm not big but i think i am. I have four boys so a lot of the weight gain happened while being pregnant. I would like some possible feed backs. My husband say's he loves me for me and say's he is happy. I've always had low self-esteem since i could remember. So i would like some advice on what to do. One more thing my father passed away last year and i wondering if i do decide to have a wedding, who would be the person to give me away to my husband. I would appreciate any advice.

Answer
Being plus size is not a problem at all. Your only problem is you're already married. Married people don't have weddings. Everyone makes choices and we have to accept them. You and your husband got married in a courthouse and that was your choice. It made perfect sense to do that because of his grandfather.

Be happy you have a husband that loves you no matter what. Be happy that you have four healthy boys. Any money you spend on a fake wedding would be better used for a college fund for your children.

If money isn't a issue and you can really afford it, throw a huge party for your 5th anniversary. No ceremony, no bridesmaids, no gift registry or the other trapping of a wedding. Wear an elegant gown in your favorite color, no white wedding gown. Rent a beautiful venue and properly wine and dine your guests. You just might get some really nice anniversary gifts.

Why isn't it more "expected" for women to RENT their wedding gown?

ipodchik

I'm a little confused about this... ever since I've known about American weddings I've been told that the groom always rents a tuxedo to wear, yet the bride BUYS her wedding gown. I've seen that bridal gowns can cost thousands of dollars, so why is it not so.. "normal" for a bride to rent her gown? They even have reality shows about the dress choosing process, lol I mean she's only going to wear it ONCE for a few hours... why buy it?
I wasn't "bothered" by the fact that brides buy their dresses, I was actually just curious; so thanks for the answers you guys! With the type of wedding I'm having though, the 'American style' dresses are a bit unnecessary for me, lol... But thank you all for answering, except for the smartmouth ho "â TTC#1â " she can suck it, lol.
Well "â TTC#1â " a hoe is a garden tool, so I wanted to make sure no one confused my intended meaning. No worries, you're still a ho, lol. As long as you've learned that your inferior mouth can't compete with me, it's all good lol. Now shut up =]

Thanks for the answers everyone else, lol!

Answer
It's more difficult to rent a dress, because they often have to be altered. Men usually only need to have their pants or the length of the sleeves altered. Dresses need to fit properly in the bust area, through the torso, hips and thighs. They also need to be altered for length.

Most brides end up buying the next size up for wedding dresses. For example, I'm about an 8, although, in some places size 8 dresses are too snug. You can't really take out a dress. But, you can order the next size up (for example, size 10) and have the specific areas where it's too big taken in to fit your exact body.

If women had to rent dresses, then rental companies would be tearing apart dresses and letting them out and taking them in multiple times. The life of the dress would be short lived. Plus, you can't really keep playing with the dress. Eventually, a dress that's been altered too many times will have puckers in the fabric and bad stitching.

What kind of a company would invest in buying expensive dresses and only get a few wearings out of them? What kind of bride wants a dress that's been altered and re-altered for 5 other brides before her?

What color of tux to go with knee length wedding dress?

wedding dress and color
on Gothic Wedding Dresses Show Your Personality from Wedding Planner
wedding dress and color image

Puddin Pop

My wedding dress is ivory colored and my colors are pool (light blue) and soft yellow, like an canary. I was thinking it would look nice for my fiance to wear a ivory colored tux with a pool colored vest and tie, with possible no vest at all. The wedding is this summer outside. So Im not sure if the best would be ivory tux with pool tie, (matches bridesmaids), or go with the simple and casual black tux. Thanks!

Answer
Tuxedos are evening wear--no good for day weddings. "Matching" is also a bad idea. Men's formalwear is based on subdued elegance, not bright matching colors.

Unless you want to get into day formalwear:
http://www.blacktieguide.com/Supplemental/Morning_Dress.htm

suits are your best bet. Seersucker is always a good bet for summer:
http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=419&Product_Code=188K&Parent_Id=216&CMP=KNC-WC0165751557
http://www.josbank.com/JAB_Partner.process?Section_Id=1000&Product_Id=446587&p_Id=3&link_Id=2&CAWELAID=323725860

and a tailor can make a bought suit fit infinitely better than a rental. Tie color is up to you, but try to coordinate instead of matching.

How can I get awesome makeup for a black and white engagement party?

Ms. Rhodes

I have a black halter cocktail dress that's very simple and I want to do a smokey eye with my makeup. I'm really good at doing eye makeup, but I can never get the black smokey eye just right? Any suggestions? Pictures and step by step instructions please???
I'm also open to other colors besides black and gray...I have tan skin and brown hair and brown eyes...and I also don't need negative comments so don't answer if you're too stupid to help.

Answer
Hi there,
here are step by step directions on how to a smokey eye look!!

Step One:
Prepare your eyelids by applying an eye shadow base. This will help reduce creasing and smearing, and also prevents flakes of makeup from falling into and irritating your eyes. The shadow base works to absorb oil from the skin, giving a smooth and dry canvas for the color to cling to. Mac makes an excellent base for first time users.

Step Two:
Eyeliner is a pivotal cosmetic used for smokey eyes. For a novice, it is best to stick to the typical shades of brown, gray, or black. This should be applied above your upper lash line. Try to thicken the amount in the center of the line, while applying more sparingly along the edges. If you are going for a more colorful look, check out some of the violet, dark green, and blue eyeliners available for purchase.

Step Three:
Blend a lighter shade of eyeliner to your bottom lash line and gently smudge it. This smudging is what gives you the "smokey" look, and it is important to have definition on your lower lashes without overdoing it.

This may be a challenge at first, so a pencil liner is often recommended over liquid. If you want to use a liquid liner, ask your beauty counter consultant which is easiest for a beginner. She may be able to recommend a product you wouldn't have otherwise chosen.

Step Four:
Apply your base color of eye shadow. This works best if it is cream colored or perhaps a light shade of gold. This should always be lighter than your final "smoky" color. Brands such as Cover Girl and Stila make some fun shimmers and lighter hues, which will work perfectly as a base.

Step Five:
After you have applied your base color, reach for your darker eye shadow. Start at your lash line and blend with your base color upward. Creating smoky eye makeup involves your eyeliner pulling a disappearing act. It should be completely blended and smudged into the shadow by the time you are done.

Step Six:
Finish off your eyes with a few coats of heavy mascara. Look for a thickening formula, and always opt for a deep shade such as black. The lashes are an important part of finishing off this stunning look.

***TIPS:
When you are preparing to wear such a style of eye makeup, remember not to overdo it with the rest of your face. Lips should not draw attention to themselves while your eyes are in the spotlight. It is important to decide which feature you wish to play up, and leave the rest to a treatment of neutral and subtle product shades

just anoth

How much did you spend on your wedding? Can you please tell me what you spent on things? Thank you

Answer
Shelby,

I applaud you for being so honest and realistic about this question. I am proud of you. First I would like to say it should not have to cost a lot of money to say your wedding vows. Weddings have become so commerical, overdone and fake some couples forget the real meaning of the vows and what a wedding is supposed to be, a commitment to stay together always.

To answer your question I got married over 16 years ago. My wedding cost about $7000.00 however my parents paid for the buffet/carrot cake and coffee which was 23.00 a person at a local hall.(the hall reception we had 165 people as I am one of seven children and my husbands mom is one of 8) I paid $650 for the djay cash in a money order. Instead of a cocktail hour I had a cake and punch reception at the church as we could not invite everyone to the reception that was cake coffee, punch mints and assorted cocktail nuts my parents were very generous to pay for that as well.

My dress was a discontinued gown which was very beautiful I was going to get a tea length gown above the ankles but the gown was ivory which I wanted and had a small faint stain on it that you could barely see when you covered it withthe boquet flowers that was $419.00 with alerations I am a large size woman my mother in law made my viel for under 60.00 which was a bow with a viel that came down to my shoulders. My earrings were a gift for my birthday which I wore as a wedding gift in addition I got the shoes for about 20.00 uncomfortable looking back I would have gotten shoes with no heel but maybe a wegde. I had a friend make the flowers in pink silk costing 80.00 $60.00 for the flowers and a twenty dollar tip for her making them.

In addition to that I had very simple flower arrangments of blue and pink flowers with baby breaths and the trellis that we got married under in the church auditorium I put some silk flowers on them.
We were very blest to have the flowers that you put on the seats given to us from a couple who got married 2 weeks before us and they were beatuiful.

My phtotographer was 800.00 and we got a lot of pictures for a very resonable price being most phtogrpahers went for $1500.00 or even more. We paid for that ourselves. I ordered corsages for my mother and mother in law to wear and the groom my husband and my dad and stepdad and the best man and grooms men wore a simple flower. For presents for the wedding party my husband got the wedding party nice pens and I gave my girls gold bracelts which we paid for my cash.

I had family and friends video the wedding which only last 25 minutes my request. I sang to my husband on the altar. I had wedding programs made up those were not expensive. I had my invitations made up at an office place for a fraction of the cost that it would have been at a wedding expo or cars store they were so pretty.

The groom my husband and his wedding party rented black simple tuxes which they returned the next day after the wedding. My dad was kind enough to return my husbands tux as he was going to be busy on his honey moon:) The maid on honor and bridesmaid gowns were beautiful teal color and something that they could wear again like on a cruise and/or cut the dress below the knee and use it has a cocktlail dress for a formal event or a wedding with alternations for the girls dresses it costed under 150.00.

My wedding was semi-formal meaning that even though everyone dressed up there was some who could not afford to dress up so wore nice jeans and a shirt. We had handicapped people at our reception as well. I was not a stuck up bride and or a bridezilla.

We did not go in debt over our wedding and paid everything by either check, cash and or money order.

Our honeymoon for 8 days to Lancaster PA was 8 days long and costed for the 2 of us with logding food, about 950.00 which we paid off as soon as we got the bill that was the only thing we charged we also took some spending money as well. We wanted to go to a place not surrounded by people, so we could truly be alone and together as husband and wife (btw it was never "just the 2 of us" until we were married) We stayed at a Howard Johnson that had an indoor pool the room was neat and clean and the food there was very reasonable, afforadable and as well as tasty and delicoius:) THe fall foilgage around us was so beautiful:)

Just remember the wedding is for one day the marriage is for the rest of your life. btw it is possible to have an economic but very nice wedding we did it and you can too now there is the internet avaialable and shop around ask like you did on this site. I hope this helps God bless:) e4g

I have a predicument...
my wedding dress is ivory and want the groom to match.
My question is this, If my b-maids dresses are lilac, can the groomsmen wear platinum vest but with a white shirt not ivory, or should the guys shirts match the ivory like the groom?

Have the groom wear all ivory, guys wear black with the appropriate color accents. Don't try to "overcoordinate" ... remember, you'll be taking pictures.

Q. I have spent all day looking at modest wedding gowns ( yes i am
lds )

And almost every single one has the same exact neckline with
cap sleeves. Cap sleeves are those perfectly square t-shirt sleeves.
I realize the need to cover up to a certain point but at least
try a new style! Like puffed sleeves or tulip sleeves, maybe
a slightly different bodice. I mean every single one looks like
a satin T-shirt attatched to a wedding gown skirt.

What the heck?

Why?

Answer
I'm not LDS, but the main reason this has become a popular style with brides, not just members of your faith, is that it is cool, comfortable, in May/June/July heat. It is a flattering style on most women without being overdone or showing too much skin.
I suggest you try

http://www.bridesave.com

for a wide selection of styles. They have the best gown search on the web. You can select to look at gowns by designer, neckline, sleeve, bodice, skirt, price, and many more.

I've always liked the idea of hanging mason jars with tea candles in them from trees. My dream wedding would be in the evening when the crickets and frogs are singing. I don't think of it as country/hick, I think of it as southern romantic...Maybe that should be your theme?

What is the healthiest kind of salad dressing?

dress grape color
 on Ecouture Clothing
dress grape color image
Q. And please don't say "no dressing" or "lemon juice!" Haha I hate both. I'm thinking light balsamic vinaigrette. I know it has a lot of sodium but it seems to be the lowest in carbs, fat, & calories.

Answer
Generally there's more nutrients in darker colored vegetables, Spinach has plenty of vitamins and minerals that are good for you, peppers are good, carrots (I like them shaved in salad), onion doesn't have a lot of nutrients but adds a big flavor punch. You can put fruit in there too if you want, grapes can be good in a salad, raisins, orange, apples too and of course tomatoes. Really you can add any vegetables or fruits you like.

There is plenty of nutrition value charts online and of course everything has calories so the "healthiest salad" depends on your goals and what you want out of it. You can add some lean meat in there too or cheese for protein if you are eating the salad as a meal rather than with your meal.

When I am trying to drop a few pounds I eat a fairly large salad with lots of Iceberg lettuce in the middle of the day (between lunch and dinner sometime), it doesn't have many nutrients but has water and fibre with almost no calories and makes me feel full so I don't eat a bunch of other crap, plus it's cheap.

As far as dressing. I usually just make one, it only takes a few minutes and I can tailor it to what I feel like eating and whats in my salad or if I want more calories or less. Usually I go with Olive Oil and Vinegar as a base (malt, balsamic, or cider vinegar depending what flavor I want) then add spices (different types that I like on a given day), pepper, garlic and shake it up and it's good to go or I throw it in a small container and take it with my lunch then shake it again and add it on. Cream based dressings are usually the highest in calories as they naturally have the most bad fats and usually the low fat versions replace fat with sugar but most low fat dressings will have sugar instead of the fat.

Answer
I'm not too into name brand clothing really. Here's some of the things in my closet:

colorful t-shirts with words or pictures on them (obviously not like dora, but like i have a shirt that says (im not short, im fun sized!' and a picture of a turtle next to it)
baggy 'lounge looking' pants and capris. like, you know, the ones that are all super loose all around your legs except there is elastic at the waist and ankles
jean shorts and normal jeans
colorful tights with a black, grey, or white skirt to go with.
tons of neutral and colorful hoodies
jewelry with the super huge beads that are like the size of a grape and really colorful and plastic
hats (like its hard to explain. its not a beret, or cap or baseball hat, but its kinda poofy in the top and idk its hard to explain but they're cute)
flats, flipflops, converse, and hightops.

Okay, well I'm trying to have our wedding this year on 10/10/2010 and i was just wondering if anybody had any ideas. I kind of want it to be a small, intimate, romantic wedding the colors are a dark purple, with hints of gold and ivory but the thing is I live in a pretty small town so I have to drive like an hr away to San Antonio to get things. I want to keep it as cheap as I can, we're still pretty young and have a baby who is almost 9 months...and I don't feel like spending all these thousands of dollars lol...anyways if anyone has any good ideas or pictures with those colors or any opinion i'd appreciate it =] ohh and umm theres like 100 guests right now but i kinda doubt that all of them will come...
ohh yeah and because i live in a small town there is kind of a limit to where we can hold the reception and one that i've seen has picnic tables...any ideas on how to decorate them? or has anyone ever had picnic tables? and also they have an inside to it where there are the metal folding chairs any ideas on how to make it look nicer without the chair covers or do u think that just leaving them alone would be better?

Answer
Why don't you and and fiancee get married in a tiny wedding at home or nearby.
Have a few family members over for the wedding and cake and champagne.Have no more than a dozen people.
No reason for an expensive dress or huge flowers or colors. No wedding party.Just a fun group of people.
Then you and hubby go off for a long weekend without baby.Is there some one to care for your child for a few days ?
I have heard great things about San Antonia.Get a great hotel. See the attractions and relax. Have a nice time.

How do I plan a small, cheap wedding?

Liesel

I want an outdoor wedding, we're looking Septemberish, I want to spend as little as possible, and hope to keep it small. I live in San Antonio Texas. What are some things you think I should know? Any good, cheap places here in SAT? How about just general wedding planning? Here's what I thought of so far: My dress (what girl hasn't), my bridesmaids dresses (only 2 bridesmaids), who I'll invite, having the wedding outside of SAT (maybe in Fredericksburg) that way people can't say we didn't invite them, but that'll severly limit the # of people who actually do go, invitations, engagement pictures, wedding cake, location for wedding and reception, flowers (don't really want any), honeymoon locations (the closer the better). Basically we aren't big on lots of attention, and though money won't really be a problem with us, we want to start on the right foot by not being overly-extravagant. Now, I've thought about all these things, but have taken no steps towards anything (we haven't set a date yet), but absolutely hate not being prepared, and want to be ready for whatever curve-balls come my direction. Thank you.

Answer
If you're open to buying a used dress, look online. I checked our local Craigslist and got an excellent condition designer Maggie Sottero gown for only $350! Going green and saving money!

If you're wedding is fairly relaxed, you could have your bridesmaids buy their own dresses. Just tell them the color it needs to be, and they can pick their own style/dress. That way, they feel more as though it's for them, it's their style, and they can wear it more than once. That's what I'm doing for my wedding in July, and my bridesmaids definetly appreciate it.

Consider baking the cake yourself, or, doing wedding cupcakes. If you DO hire someone to do it, DON'T tell them it's for a wedding. I've found people automatically charge more for things when they know it's for a wedding. Just say you need a large cake for a special party.

Have the groom buy is suit/tux instead of renting. If you don't need something extravagent, International Clothiers is a great store for a great suit, for CHEAP.

Check out your local plant nurseries to see if they can give you a good deal on flowers. If they're not that important to you then you won't need very many.

Get your invitations from a local craft store. I got mine from Michaels. $25.00 for 100 invites and envelopes. We printed them ourselves at home. Totally personalized, and exactely what we wanted.

I'm not from your area, so don't really know what's around there for locations. If you're looking for an outdoor wedding, try some nice parks or gardens. If you're wanting an indoor party, check out local clubhouses (they have tons of space, and are generally cheaper than halls or other locations).

Cheers!

It isnt an inappropriate colour to wear to an english wedding, usually you can wear watever colour you want unless it states on the invitation to stick to theme colours. Cocktail dresses and evening dresses are most common depending wether wedding is smart/casual or black tie :)

There are some examples but it really depends on your own style and what you look and feel good in :)
Generally it is wise to steer clear of dresses the same colour as the bridesmaids/bride.

What states don't have sales tax on clothing?

elli_princ

I know Massachusetts doesn't but I need un updated list of which ones don't have sales tax on clothing. Is New York one of them?

Answer
The 5 states without any sales tax: Delaware, New Hampshire, Montana, Oregon, and Alaska. Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont don't tax most clothing (things like wedding gowns are usually taxed and sports uniforms are usually taxed). Massachusetts doesn't tax clothing that costs less than $175.

New York's system is complicated. The State of New York doesn't tax clothing that costs less than $110. The problem is that most cities and counties still do charge tax on that clothing. So clothing under $110 is only totally tax free in New York City and 11 other counties outside of the city.

My daughter is getting married, which is more affordable caterer and hall vs hotel package?

Answer
There is no doubt that it is normally more affordable to go with renting your own facility and arranging for your own catering over using a hotel or wedding site package.

The reason for this is that you are in more control of what you get for your money. Choosing a hall or site on your own gives you the ability to look at venues which can be very low cost, such as public parks which often have some kind of shelter or buildings used for such events or even art galleries or other buildings which are not used for their normal functions on the weekends and so are available for wedding events, like state buildings or museums or even some office buildings that have great foyers or conference rooms.

Choosing your own caterer also allows you to set a menu of things your daughter may love which are not normally available at hotel or wedding site catering. You can make choices that are relatively inexpensive and still make a lovely presentation. You are also free to look for caterers who are relatively new in the business which can be a benefit financially as well as giving you more for the money since new businesses are often willing to go the extra mile in order to please customers and build business.

The draw backs to going with your own site and caterer include that fact that it will be a great deal more work for you to go this way. If you have a wedding planner, then no problem, but if not, you seriously ought to think of hiring someone who can help you to navigate all the contracts and pitfalls of this kind of planning.

Using hotels or weddings sites take a great deal of the work out of the planning stages and can offer a number of advantages such as convenient locations, guest rooms at the same site, and normally the hotel will have a wedding planning consultant who will work with your planner to make everything come off without a hitch.

A word to the wise, don't confuse the wedding planner at a site with having your own private wedding planner. They are there on behalf of the establishment, to make sure their facilities are properly used and cared for more than to accomodate you and your wedding party. They will be very helpful and can do many things to assure the success of your event, but they will not be able to do anything about such emergancies as the florist sending their deliver driver with your flowers and forgetting the cake topper or the brides maid tearing her gown, or the best man forgetting the rings. Those are things your own wedding planner is hired to know how to take care of.

As for great places in massachusetts for weddings, here are some suggestions. I chose several from various areas since you didn't say where in the state you are looking.

Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston.....an award winner and truly beautiful facility which can handle everything from romantic to chic and modern.

Myriad Ballroom at Lakeview Park in Mendon....lovely place where you can have an indoor or outdoor event overlooking the lake.

John Carver Inn in Plymouth.....very romantic and beautiful setting.

Daniel Webster Inn at Cape Cod.....also a romantic spot which requires very little decorating.

Primavera in Mills.....a wedding specialty house where they do many weddings a day.

Crestview or The State Room both in Boston....good food and locations.

Help me find a dress to wear to a wedding?

Q. This summer i have a couple weddings i'm going too, what kinda of dress should i wear? if it helps i have long brown hair and i have a tall slender figure!

Answer
It helps to know your skin tone and eye color. So I won't be able to suggest colors really. But I like the idea of a sky blue with satin fabric.

No white.
Nothing above the knees(In my opinion it feels disrespectful)
If it's a jewish wedding you might have to wear something specific.
Spaghetti straps or strapless seems like a good idea since it's the summer.
Be conservative.

Why do women wear black dresses to the weddings?

Matt S

Shouldn't the colors be light and happy? Or is it to keep the attention on the bride? What are the differences between a Christian and Jewish wedding traditions (mostly what people attending should wear?

Answer
I think it is because every woman has the perfect little black dress that they look and feel wonderful in. Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with wearing black to a wedding as long as it is in good taste- not to revealing etc- and as long as you stay away from white your golden.

It has heaps of wedding and bridesmaid dresses at fantastic prices. I spoke to the lady Leah who owns the site and she is awesome really helpful and informative. There is not a dress over $500.00. And they make it to fit you and dont charge you extra for material, usually if you are a size 18 + they charge you extra for material, as I am a bigger size.

I wanted to check around before i made the finally decision, does anyone know of any websites like this that only deal with in Australia and are at these prices? I like the local service

Answer
Where about in Australia are you? There is a website www.bargainbridalgownsonline.com they service worldwide but most of their customers are within Australia and if your near Toowoomba QLD they even welcome brides to come in and try on their gowns!

They source their dresses from liquidation sales and can sell them on for great prices. New dresses are always being added and old ones removed from the site.

What color eye-shadow shoud I wear with an orange colored prom dress?

Sabina E

This would be my first time wearing eye shadow because I am afraid eye shadow would be too much, but decided to try it for prom. My dress is orange and I am black(dark skinned). I would like to know which color combinations would look nice on my skin tone and compliment my dress at the same time. But I don't want anything crazy because the dress itself is already bright.

Answer
Definitely NOT orange eye shadow or anything of the sorts -_-,
Think of it as makeup with orange being your lipstick,
women commonly pair bright, citrus lips with very sheer brown eyeshadow and sometimes light peach eyeshadow colors, a darker brown would be good to :D just have it blended with a lighter shade. Keep it light.
Or do pin-up makeup but exclude the red lips (too bright) which is a lighter brown on the lid and a darker brown in the crease, with black winged eyeliner on the top lid only and mascara

How would I be viewed by Japanese women in Tokyo?

Joe

I am going to study abroad this year in Tokyo and I was wondering if I would be appealing to Japanese women and what I should expect when I go there. Also where would be the best place to meet women similar to me or just in general. (I've heard clubs are just to grab your money and to avoid them mostly)

1. I am a very light skinned red head, age 20, 5'9", about 140 lbs. Very fit (not huge but skinny with decent muscle.)

2. Decent looking with somewhat red cheeks and freckles.

3. I am a gamer (3DS and PC)

4. Somewhat shy at first, but can definitely make good conversation.

5. I dress nicely, not fancy but good color combinations that look "Fresh?" I guess you could say haha.

Any kind of information would be great thanks!
My japanese is minimal right now, going to be taking an intensive class for it there. Will probably learn a bit more before I go.

Answer
You are not so bad. But being a gamer will give negative image to some of them. Some of them think you are like "geek" who does not know how to treat women. Because many "gamers" in Japan are like that.

What material should a plus size BM stay away from?

Need advic

I'm between a 12 and 16 (depending on fabric and store). I'm a bridesmaid for a friend's wedding and we can pick our own dresses.

What fabric should I stay away from? I know to stay away from jersey knits. Anything else?

Answer
Anything clingy (jersey, most polyester blends) or really "flowy" - chiffon, organza, etc.

Matte satin, a cotton blend, taffeta, and some raw silks will have structure and make the most of your shape. Dark, solid fabrics tend to be slimming.

Stay away from bubble-hem dresses, anything with tiers or layers, and anything that hits below mid-calf. A dress that hits just below the knee will add height and lengthen you.

Strapless isn't the optimal cut for a bigger figure because it emphasizes width. A gown with a moderate V-neck will draw eyes up to your face.

Good luck!

Was Madame Baldwina the name of a wedding gown shop in the Bronx area in the 1950's?

chart2008

My parents' 50th anniversary is approaching, and I'm compiling a history for the occasion. I don't want to ask my mom to give it away. I've been searching online without any results. Thanks!

Answer
I found a map of the bronx area that pinpoints the wedding gown shop.
There's a phone number listed, so you could call the shop and ask if they were around in the 50's

I have really dark brown, pretty much black hair, blue eyes, and extremely fair skin in the winter time, but do get tan in the summer. What dress colors should I look for? Thank you!

Answer
I think you'd look good in silvers, blues, and greys. But you have a really pretty, unusual combination, so you'd probably be able to pull off any color! I just think stay away from red, it might look kinda dark with black hair and pale skin.

What dress colors looks best with fair skin?

I have found two dresses that I love because they are simple and would be great for a summer wedding. I am having the wedding at the Hilton Hotel and the hotel itself is big and beautiful. I need to know which one of these dresses would be a better fit for the venue and the time of year. Plus I have no idea how early I should buy the dress. I have heard of girls buying a year in advance and 6 months in advance.

Answer
I work in a bridal salon as a consultant. I always suggest to my brides to allow 6-9 months to special order a dress. Yes, I've had it take 9 months to get a dress in before, it doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen, especially if you're wanting to make changes or you want the dress in a color they don't do all the time. As far as which dress you should select, you should try them both on, and see how you feel then, and pick the dress that makes you feel absolutely beautiful and like a bride. A bride knows when she's got THE dress on, you'll get emotional, you'll carry yourself differently, you'll glow, both inside and out. They both have a completely different feel, the first is definitely more vintage inspired, very 1950's New Look. The 2nd dress is more modern, particularly with the ruffles. Never pick a wedding gown from pictures, remember those are models wearing those dresses, they're about 5'10" to 6' tall and are about a size 0 or 2.

You wouldn't be unusual to go ahead and purchase your dress. Many brides do, and the dress really dictates so much about the wedding.

Good luck!
