Bridal Shop near San Francisco?

llamar3105

I am looking for a gown for my July wedding. I have experienced and heard horror stories about Davids Bridal so I am trying to avoid them. If someone could recommend a bridal shop that is not ridiculous with their prices. I'm not poor but i'm not rich!!!! Thank you in advance!!

Here's a link to the Yelp page where they review SF bridal shops:

Bridal Gown Discount Wedding Dress Plus Size?

EndeDDDn S

I am planning on being san francisco in Sep. and I wanted to take a friend to try on wedding dresses for her upcoming wedding. We are both plus sized girls and would feel more comfortable in a store that either specializes or at least has plus size wedding dresses . Names, addresses and phone numbers would be great, and the person to give them to me, gets best answer!

Answer
Even though plus size brides are a big part of the wedding dress market,it is very hard to find a wedding dress shop that just specializes in plus sizes. This is for several reasons one because to make it in todays market you have to cater to every type of size. and two most wedding dress stores can not afford to have sample gowns in 2 or 3 different sizes. It's just to cost prohibitive. If you are a plus size bride know your silhouette type. Once have a clear understanding of what type of neckline, silhouette and materials look good on you, then you may have to go online as you will find a bigger selection there than anywhere else. Here's a guide to buying online wedding dresses https://www.mybigfatbeautifulwedding.com/Articles.asp?ID=244 . Once you have determined your silhouette code you can shop online and get a gown that will fit your body type. This website also specializes in custom made wedding dresses to your measurements https://www.mybigfatbeautifulwedding.com

should i get a sash on my wedding gown?

Laurel

I found my wedding gown and bought it about 3 days ago.
i love everything about it and i dont really wanna change it but would a sash/ribbon look better near my waist line.
my mother says it looks so plain, but i love it.
http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?line=m&pageSize=96&style=A3191LU

Answer
A sash would not work on that dress at all! It would do nothing but detract from the beading. Leave it how it is, it's lovely without a sash!!!

Good luck!

I dont really like blue flowers tho
what color flowers should i use??
the wedding is sept this year!!
\please help

Answer

That bouquet is gorgous and will look amazing with the dresses.
http://www.explorewisconsin.com/georgesflowers/georgeflowers1.jpg
This is a little risky but will compliment the blue dresses.
http://www.flowersauckland.co.nz/images/wedding_flowers_bridal.jpg
Or this bouquet you can never go wrong with its beautiful and is a classic.
http://www.nzflower.co.nz/images/wedding_hot_pink_wedding_bouquets_group_med.jpg
Also these beautiful flowers will look great with the blue.

Im not positive the names of these flowers but if you like them you can print the picture to the florist or the person making the boquets and they will make the exact copy of the picture.
I hope I helped have an amazing wedding! Good luck!

Best place in Los Angeles, CA to preserve Wedding Dress?

jtw91

My wife is looking into preserving her Wedding Dress and came across plenty of Bridal Gown cleaning and preservation sites that advertise it but we must ship it to another State (i.e. Texas). I was wondering if there is a place local to us that will come highly recommended from the knowledgeable Yahoo Community.

Thanks all.

Answer
Check out http://www.projectwedding.com/. There should be some reviews, and it's all local.

Buying a wedding gown?!?

Benji's Mo

I just got engaged recently, and am getting married in 2 months. I think I need to find a place where I can buy off the rack? I generally wear a size 8, so I am assuming I will be a size 10 or 12 in wedding attire.....

I prefer to go try things on vs. getting it online.

Where can I find a place here in Southern CA? I live in the San Gabriel Valley.

Answer
Try Alfred Angelo in San Gabriel. Its at 205 Las Tunas Drive. They have a great selection and dresses to fit your budget. I DO NOT recommend Davids Bridal. I had my bridesmaid order their dresses from the store in Burbank and the service and quality was awful. Also in Montebello, next to Toys R Us there is a bridal outlet... I went in once but didnt really look around. I would suggest trying Downtown Los Angeles as well. I had my dress cutom made from a design I created and a seamstress charged me $2500 for the dress which I thought was a deal.

I know skinnies are already in. Flats too.
I'm a mixture of a bunch of different style. But please... no meat dresses.

Answer
Chunky, loose sweaters are pretty in for fall/winter.
The color burgundy for anything - vans, tops, jeans, etc.
Combat boots and furry boots like uggs are in every year :)
Riding/equestrian boots have been super in even if you don't ride.
Peplum was really trendy in the summer, not sure about fall.
Same with mint^
Colored and patterned jeans are in this season!
Maxi skirts and dresses are always trendy when styled right.
Military is a super big trend now, with military style jackets and boots.
Statement necklaces with plainer shirts are really nice.
Liquid (Leather) Leggings and denim shirts are really trendy now.
A lot of people are wearing peter pan collared tops now too :)
edit: Patterned and infinity scarves are trendy now too.

Anyone know where to find nice "goth" bridesmaid dresses?

SimplyMe

I find dark dresses to be nicer and any ideas/pictures of "goth" themed wedding receptions?

Answer
How about instead of goth bridesmaid dresses, you have the girls wear corsets and skirts in a color you like? It would be easier to find the corset and skirt as separates. Will there be a Renaissance faire in your area before your wedding? That would be a great place to get high-quality corsets.

As far as a goth wedding reception, I have a feeling that most "goth" themed decor would be tacky. Rather, pick table decorations and etc that look very, very antique. Like for your centerpeices, find Victorian and pewter candle holders and go NUTS with the candles. Every surface should have candles. Keep the lights low, so you're lit mostly by candlelight. Use lots of mirrors to amplify the light. Choose dark, rich colors for your linens. If you don't want flowers, feathers are a neat and modern substitute (just be careful around the candles)!

I wouldn't really do skulls or tombstones or silly stuff like that. It's a wedding, not Halloween (not that Halloween weddings aren't awesome). Draw inspiration from gothic styles in the true sense... elegant, architectural, dramatic.

Happy wedding!

What do different wedding dress colors mean?

Wedding Dresses of Different colors: A Bit of Folklore
As with many other things in life, there is much folklore and legend surrounding the various other colors that brides have been known to wed in. One old rhyme seems to sum up these notions:

Married in white, you have chosen all right.
Married in green, ashamed to be seen.
Married in red, you will wish yourself dead.
Married in blue, you will always be true.
Married in yellow, ashamed of your fellow.
Married in black, you will wish yourself back.
Married in pink, your spirits will sink.

Pink dress? What color shoes?

kittycat32

Okay, The dress is hot pink . It has a silver broch. What color shoes and bag should I wear? Please help? My mom says silve, but black and pink look so cute together.

Dress: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110155763584&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=001
Yes. I bought it off Ebay. For $9 I couldn't resist!! Oh, And I will be wearing it to homecoming.
Cliquey, What give you the idea that I don't care about my homecoming dress? I don't understand why you think that. If I didn't care, I would have worn mine from last year instead of getting a new one.

Answer
The dress is cute But no gurl if the dress has a silver broch on it then go with a silver bag and shoes..but if you really want black then find a black shoe that has silver in it..But stay away from anything gold or white because those colors would absolutely clash with the dress......But once you chose a color shoe to go with everything else has to be that color as well or it will not look right..so this means if you chose silver you shoes have to be silver, bag, acessories, etc. and the same 4 black..But personally i dont recommend black Go with silver trust me!!!

WOW! dress #1 is absolutely gorgeous!!!
I actually ordered my gown and veil from them and I haven't had any troubles with my order. they gave me an estimate arrival day for my veil which was mid April and it arrived today, not too late :o). They told me my gown would arrive towards the end of May so I expect it to be here in early June! Gosh I'm super excited!!

I would say that if you love their gowns that much then just stick with them!! They customer service is AWESOME!! But then again I couldn't speak for IL, I live in Seattle, WA.

Also, if you think shipping might be a problem, you could always get rushed shipping.

Congrats!!!

*****EDIT:******

LeslieR.

I also went to Bride's by Demetrio's in Bellevue. I'm sorry you had a terrible experience with them :o(. Do you (by any chance) remember the name of the bad seamstress lady? So that I can avoid having my alterations done by her please. Also, if you can recommend someone who can do awesome alterations for wedding gowns in the Snohomish Co. area? I would greatly appreciate your help! Thanks!

Problem with bridemaid dresses?

Angellover

A friend of mine was asked to be a maid of honor in a wedding. One of her jobs was to find bridesmaid dresses of a certain style and color for the wedding party. The problem is this. One of the bridesmaids is very tall and skinny. The other bridesmaid is short and very over weight. The other one is tall and overweight. Luckily one is average height and weight. My friend asked me to help her find one style of dresses that would fit each bridesmaid. The bride wants her to come up with three styles that she could choose from. My friend and I searched online at several websites. What would fit the larger ladies wouldn't fit the smaller ones and vice versa. The plus size dresses at most of the boutiques and online looked awful. I know that the bridesmaids aren't supposed to out shine the bride. Still you want them to be fashionable. I came up with the idea to get a pattern and make their dresses. No one knows how to sew. I told my friend that I would ask this wonderful people of this community to help. She is worried herself sick. I mean sick to the point of vomiting and severe headaches. My friend don't want to let the bride down. What can she do? Thanks everyone! :)

Answer
Your idea to have them made will save everyone a lot of money, and they will look so much better if they are custom made for each girl, because that will fit each girl's figure better. Even if none off the bridesmaids know how to sew, it will cost less to buy the fabrics, patterns and pay someone to make them then to order each dresses from a bridal store. (I used to work in a fabric store and my mom used to make wedding and bridesmaids dresses.)

The bride should pick a colour and one type of fabric (I suggest chiffon because it's figure flattering with it's matte finish and flowy-ness). Then find two different patterns for dresses, one that flatters the larger girls and one that works better for the skinnier girls. There is no way that one style of dress will look good on all those different body types. And the one dress you will all settle on will look good on no one if it has to please everyone (especially a picky bride).

The bride needs to show a little flexibility and sympathy towards her shapely (and skinny) bridesmaids and realize that dresses that are custom-made for them will look great, and if they are all the same colour and fabric they will look fabulously-matched, even if they all aren't identical dresses.

Good Luck!

Should I wear this lovely dress?

Bree M

My senior prom is in april, and i would like to wear something very unique and elegant. even though this is a wedding dress, I love it!!!!! My date will be wearing and all white tuxedo with a champagne colored tie with a paisley pattern to match the ribbon around my waist. Should I go for it?

http://www.goodgoodschina.com/lace-wedding-gown-gwbnl0010

Answer
I love it! It wont even be noticeable as a wedding dress.. But if your going to order that online I would be really concered, I order my wedding dress (which was something very stupid of me but I wanted to find out myself) it was from china I spend alot of money and she sent me wrong dress size, wrong color and the sewing was coming out. PLus it was suppose to be a deisgner dress and it wasn't. If your going to do something online i would highly use paypal since they backed me up and I got all my money back and I got to keep the wedding dress and I just went out and bought a new beautiful wedding dress at a bridal store. So if your looking for that dress I suggest you to go to a bridal store!! good luck and have fun

Family Wedding Drama?!?

hpdrew15

So my fiance and I have set our wedding date for August 4th of 2012 and my fiance's brother has set his wedding date for September 29th of 2012. I've been engaged since last november, which his parents said they were not going to recognize, and my fiance gave me my ring at the end of June. Well a week after that his brother proposed to his girlfriend. They set their date and asked us to stay away from september, so we did. Two of my siblings are teachers, so the school year doesn't really work for us and my aunt who lives out of state works for the courts of her city; so the end of fiscal year, which is up in July, doesn't work for her either.

My fiance and I are having a very laid back Lutheran ceremony and our reception is at a bowling alley. His brother is having a very formal Catholic ceremony and a very formal reception at a reception lodge. We have been figuring things out for our wedding since last November and we decided on the colors purple (my favorite color and my grandma's, who passed away 7 years ago), green (my second favorite color) and silver as an accent. I have bridesmaids dresses ordered, along with all my stationary ordered.

I just found out today that his brothers colors are the same and now my fmil is asking us to change our date, which we can't do, or to change our colors, which I can't do either. I'm so upset right now, I have never felt like his family accepts me and I'm just about ready to say that I'm done with his family all together.

My fiance has told his mother that we are not changing and now she is accusing us of not caring about his brother. We don't feel like his family is supporting us at all, ever since the beginning of our relationship and now they don't care for our wedding and our choices. I'm so fed up with his family and I'm about to totally lose it.

Am I wrong to be upset? Am I wrong to not be willing to change to accomadate his brother? What should I do?
My fiance, my parents and I are the ones paying for the wedding, they have offered no support or help. They never even ask us how things are going.

As for religion, his family is Lutheran as well, it's his brother's fiance that is Catholic. And I would never ever marry into the Catholic faith.

My fsil and fbil are the ones that have the problems with the colors being the same and they are the ones that dragged their mother into it. She always sides against my fiance.

And there have been many many more large problems with his family that make me want to be done with them, it's not just this. Our contact with his family is already very minimal, they don't even know that we have moved. So if we made contact anymore minimal than it already is, we wouldn't be talking to them at all.

And I have told them that I can't change my date or colors, they knew this when they asked us to change our details.

Daver: I am not wrong to be this upset, seeing as this is not the first major problem tha

Answer
Wow, his family are A-holes! You have every right to be upset. I would not change your colors or anything for that matter. Keep planning your wedding with the colors YOU want and the way YOU want it. It's your wedding, not his mothers or his brothers. If anyone should change colors, it should be your soon to be sister-in-law. Not you.
Just keep planning it, and if his mother keeps going on about how you guys don't care about his brother, someone needs to say to her "oh like everyone cares about us & our wedding"
Eff 'em. And the best of luck to you!!

Which color scheme for July 2012 wedding?!?

Allie M

We'll marry July 14, 2012 in a church then our reception will take place under a tent in the famous gardens in our town.

Option 1) "Peacock/royal" blue bridesmaids dresses with blue wildflowers. My bouquet will be white wildflowers. Note: Blue is our favorite color.. This is bright, summer and just pops! While still being elegant.

Option 2) Slate/gray bridesmaids dresses with white and pink bouquets. Mine will be white and pink flowers as well. It's so soft, elegant and beautiful!!

Which option?

Answer
I think you should split the difference - I think royal blue is too dark for a summer wedding - and grey is too dull, but if you like blue you can still go with something a little further up the light spectrum - go for a lighter shade of blue and you can still have your hints of blue and pink wildflowers but it is more in keeping with the month and time of year

Friend's wedding - which dress to wear?

SimplySwee

A very good friend of mine is getting married this May & I need help picking out a dress to wear! It's an Asian wedding so there'll be an eclectic mix of formal/casual I'm sure. I'm a fairly pale-skinned, petite Asian with dark hair...which of the 3 dresses do you guys think I should pick?

Answer
Well it's a spring wedding right? So you should stay away from dark colors such as the two gray's you chose. Try more light colors or even floral dresses. Out of the one's you gave us, I say you should go for the second one with some silver heels and light silver jewelry. But maybe you could look for a slightly longer version of the dress you gave. It almost looks like an underslip because of the length.

Here are some other options if you're willing to look:

Wedding clothing help?

bill

So I am going to a wedding saturday and I want to dress really hipster. I want to wear a combination of nice dress pants shirt suspenders and bow tie but do not know what would look the best as a combination. I look really good in a light baby blue but im not sure what colors to get everything to look perfect! Points to the one who can come up with the best combination

Answer
a light blue, pastel shade will work well with black, navy or grey dress pants - make the suspenders match the pants or could be white and make the bow tie a regimental stripe or even a polka dot - again using the pants color as the primary color, black, navy or grey. The bow tie could even bring in other colors, for example a navy and red stripe would look cool.

Enjoy the wedding.

Brandon and Kelly on Beverly Hills 90210?

Jason Liu

I'm just finished season 7 of BH 90210. while reading the plot summary of season 8, I saw that Brandon had an affair with Emma. He and Kelly put an end to their relationship. Did they get back together? Which episode? What happened after? Please fiil me with details. Thanks

Answer
They do get back together, fairly early in Season 8. I'm a little fuzzy on most of the details as its been sooo long ago that I watched the original..I can tell you however, that Kelly and Brandon are >this close< to getting married, Kelly is pregnant and Brandon is working so much, Kelly fears that they won't last. Impetuously, Brandon proposes and all seems well until at the last moment, literally...before Kelly walks down the aisle, they agree to call off the wedding and just be friends. Kelly miscarried the baby before the wedding.

Eventually, Donna wants to use Kelly's wedding dress that she designed in a show and Brandon tells Donna that Kelly would love that idea, when in fact, when Kelly see's the dress in a store window...she gets really upset.

Kelly and Brandon will always have a piece of one anothers hearts, but they never do get together.

In the 90210 that is airing on the CW now, it was revealed in the first season that Kelly and Dylan end up back together, briefly and they have a son..Sammy...

I'm just now watching the new Melrose, Is Sydney really dead already?

Murphy

Not to mention the fact that she died in the original series!

Answer
this is why melrose place and 90210 should have just been left be when they went off the air. if sidney faked her death which i saw on the old show in her wedding dress, either brookes car was made out of cotton or sidney had a twin. i wouldve believed that more than the whole michael thing

I'm getting married in less then two weeks....?

Drea

I need whatever advice on what I can do on a very small budget. My fiance and I are getting married once before he goes into the Army and then again later when money is better in a big family church wedding. The first one will be outdoors in my familys yard. There will be about 40 or so guests. I just want it to be special for him and need any advice I can get.

Answer
KEEP IT SIMPLE!!

My husband and I just planned a wedding in less than 2 weeks and it can be done.

Get what you absolutely need...
We did invitations by going to www.evites.com and we picked up a pack of invitations from Hobby Lobby for those who didn't have access to a computer and delivered them personally.

We ordered a cake from Wal-Mart. 2 tier was only $56

I ordered a nose gay from the florist which is a smaller version of a bridal bouquet and I also ordered him a boutineer. (Not sure about the spelling on that)

I didn't wear a traditional wedding gown. (thank goodness!) I wore a beautiful evening gown that I can wear again in the future and he wore a suit.

Got the rings we wanted which we saw online and was blessed enough to find them in a local mall.

I had no bridesmaids and all that girly mess. I wouldn't have had that even if I had a year to plan. (LOL)
His dad stood in for him and my son walked me down the aisle and stood in for me.

Someone recommended a minister who turned out to be wonderful and we had it outside at a spot here in Nashville that overlooks the city.

We were married on 7-7-07 at 7 p.m. and we're still loving it!

Good luck and God bless!

Is it okay to wear a black dress to a wedding party?

Megan<3

My friends brother is getting married today and he said that she could bring a friend to the party afterwards so i'm going, i've got a dress, it goes to about the knee, silk-ish look, and sliver shoes, i'm worried that i'll look like i'm going to a funeral or clubbing instead of a wedding party.
Any idea's if it'll be okay?
I wore the dress, it was in the afternoon and the bride loved it, i added a white cardigan so it looked fine :) thanks for all the answers anyway :)

Answer
It's best to call the bride FIRST, people do it all the time - like suddenly it became trendy, but they are being disrespectful to the people who are being honored there. In SOME countries, wearing black is worn for funerals, and the bride may be uncomfortable bringing 'bad luck' to her special event.

Just show respect, to the bride, by calling her if it's OK.

In the 80's all the bridesmaids wore black for Paul's & Cricket's Wedding on the Young & the Restless, and before the wedding, someone got in a wreck! Of course the wedding was postponed. That's one example the soap opera TV series were trying to show what would happened if someone wore black to the wedding. . . .Even on soap, SOMETHING could happened to jinx a wedding . . .

If that was me getting married, I would prefer someone asked me!

What Color should my wedding dress be, and my bridesmades dresses? I dont want white, Any Help?

Heather T

I sort of like the color pick, but i dont know, id just like some ideas for everyhting about weddings, thanx for ur help :)

Answer
When is your wedding, i.e., which month?

My brother's fiance is using chocolate brown (that beautiful, really warm brown) for bridesmaids and ivory for her wedding dress. It's an October wedding. I think you should consider how the colors will look on all the peeps in the wedding party--does it enhance everyone, for the most part, like that......you may also try to find something that'll be "timeless", not too trendy or (trust me, I've been married 14 yrs.) the wedding photos will SCREAM the year they were taken. Look at wedding photos (vintage) for inspiration, e.g. Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelly.

Just my thoughts, Good luck and blessing for a wonderful, lifelong marriage!

Discount bridal shop for wedding gowns in New York City?

Curious

I heard there's a large discount bridal shop in mahattan with different 4 floors of wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and accessories. Does anyone know what the name of it is? Thank you!

Answer
RK Bridal -

But, I had a terrible experience with them, and went through a different Bridal shop with exquisite gowns, and top of the line staff (all dresses were reasonable).

Las Vegas Wedding Arrangements?

dee2512

We are planning to get married in Vegas in October 2009 and a few friends & family have expressed interest in coming along too. What would be the best way of organising this? Is it better to do a group booking on-line direct with Hotel & the Flight separately or book both together, or to contact a Travel Agent to arrange it all for us? Also, when would be the best time to book this - ASAP or next year nearer the time?
There will be approx 12 people inc 2 kids & we will be flying from Manchester, UK and staying at either the MGM Grand or Mirage (cant decide which 1 yet).
Any advice from anyone who has arranged a Wedding in Vegas would be appreciated. Thanks

Answer
If you are planning on getting married in a major hotel, work with the wedding coordinator to get a block of rooms set aside at a discount rate. They will handle all of the details for the wedding, reception and the rooms.

We were married at the Top of the Stratosphere and only had to show up dressed in gown and tux. Everything else was taken care of for a 45 person wedding. We couldnt have asked for anything more.

I know this one is from ebay, but I found the same one at a local store, and I was just wondering if you like it. Also, what color should I get it in, white or ivory?
If you have a favorite dress, put the link below and I'll check it out!

Answer
I think it's gorgeous! the color depends on your skin tone, if you're very pale then white might wash you out. see if you can try on dresses in both colors to see which one looks best :)

ooohhhh i like HeeM's fiance's idea.... thats pritty cool. have you seen 27 dresses?? i like the LA wedding idea... hehe
lool just for the record my aunt had a rainbow wedding.... all her bridesmaids were in different colors.

Answer
I'm having a chocolate wedding (getting married on Easter Saturday) - chocolate bridesmaid gowns & chocolate tuxes for the boys with ivory & red accents. Centrepieces are bouquets of chocolate dipped strawberries and truffles. The cake is different layers of chocolate sponge and ganache topped with truffles. My dress is ivory, but I have chocolate accents in my headdress and red shoes.

We're going with a more modern idea for the reception with chef-manned food stations instead of a traditional plated dinner (stations include a freshly made pasta station, freshly made stir fry station, mashed potato martini bar, ham carving station, beef tenderloin carving station among others) - selections of veg will be available on the tables so everyone can avoid having to queue buffet-style. The good thing about the stations is everyone can get exactly what they want, freshly prepared and I don't have to stress about allergies, intolerances etc.

The venue is here http://www.fairmont.com/banffsprings/Photos/ - the 3rd photo down (Mount Stephen Hall) is where the wedding will take place.

Where can I find a wedding dress in red or other colors?

jazzgirlpd

I recently attended a bridal show and saw lots of gowns with color, either with colorful sashes or embroidery. However, I'm looking for a wedding dress that's a different color from white or ivory altogether.

I love the idea of pale gold or a deep red, but I don't want it to look like a prom dress (most prom dresses are a bit too frou-frou for me).

I've found a few, but I need something around $700 (give or take $75) and available in plus size. Does anyone know if there's a company that sells something like this?

I'm trying to avoid going to every wedding boutique in town, so I'm shooting for seeing the dress online, going to the dress shop, and just ordering it.
EDIT: To answer one poster, white does not symbolize purity. In many, many cultures, red symbolizes purity. Also, the whole white wedding dress idea is a relatively recent trend in weddings, and it was created to show that you had money to burn.

Answer
I believe that red is a traditional color for Indian wedding dresses -If you want something exotic, you could try searching for sites that offer Indian wedding dresses or bridal wear.

Another option for ideas is Ebay - I've seen dressmakers offer all sorts of lovely things there, some custom.

Or, you could have your dress made for you - ask around to find a local dressmaker who can make one for you within your budget. If you don't get too elaborate, you should be able to get one made in the style, color, and size you need, with a customized fit.

Congratulations!

Help finding a perfect wedding dress?

Anna

I'm trying to find a wedding dress with long lace sleeves. I really like these two:

http://www.dreambridaldress.com/wedding-dress-with-sleeves/sleeve013.html
http://www.eastbridal.com/wedding-dress-style/long-sleeves-wedding-dress/plus-size-a-line-strapless-neckline-chapel-train-off-the-shoulder-lace-sleeves-white-wedding-dress-sgwd0005.html

but both those companies don't seem reputable. And other more well known companies just seem to have lace jacket style coverups for older brides. I know david's bridal will attach long lace sleeves to any sleeveless dress, but the pictures of their sleeves didn't look very good.

I'm 5'10'' and a size 14. So a little overweight, but I don't really need a huge cover up dress. I just have a scar on my upper arm from a skiing accident that I'd be more comfortable if it was covered up. And I think those two dresses look classy, yet sexy.

Thanks!
I was concerned about those companies because reviews I found said that the dress wouldn't arrive, or would be low quality.
Those Casablanca dresses look really nice! There's a retailer about 30 miles from me, I'll definitely go try them on. I couldn't ever find the brand name on the sites I was looking at. Thanks!

Answer
You write: Help finding a perfect wedding dress?

Go actually try on gowns, please! The only way to find the perfect dress? Go try on gowns. That is the only way to tell which is the most flattering to your individual body type.

This is a major purchase. Don't order online. Actually go try on dresses. See the quality with your own eyes before purchasing.

If you are a mature bride, you can consider evening gowns and mother-of-bride gowns too. Often, a mature bride will prefer a more sophisticated look.

Answer
Go to a store and try some on, even if you don't plan to buy one there. You might find out you like a silhouette you didn't expect to like. Plus, wedding dresses run really small. When I was shopping for my dress, I wore a size six, but all the dresses that fit were a size 10.

If I had to guess, though, I think a mermaid or an a-line with lace sleeves would look gorgeous.

Help - can't find affordable bridesmaids dresses, Portsmouth UK?

ALICE H

Hi there - I am getting married in 2.5 months and need to get bridesmaids dresses (2 ladies, one 9 year old, one 7 year old and one 1 year old).
This is not wedding season so the shops I was counting on have no off the peg bridal, and the xmas party dresses are flying out the shops - I can't find all the sizes that I need. I am not even trying to match them all - just keep them similar, ie all blue or all white and gold and so on.

Does any one have any tips, where can I look?

Plus I have the world's smallest budget so am going to have to find these in high street stores, not posh wedding shops.

Thanks

Answer
Who says the dresses have to match? I think matching dresses is silly now. Plus, the bridesmaids rarely wear the dresses again. I think you should pick a color (black, navy, beige) and ask everyone to go out and purchase a long/street length (you decide the length) dress for themselves. Then, they will all wear the same color but will have clothes they like. Bridesmaids in the U.S. buy their own gowns anyway.

What should a woman's bathroom attendant have in her accessory kit?

Me, Cee

Sure she should have breath mints and something to get rid of static cling, but what else?

Answer
Take a look at the answers to your question over in the Etiquette section.

You don't often see attendants these days, even in upscale ladies' rooms. When they were still around, they'd be prepared to offer tissues, hand lotion, Band-Aids, safety pins, combs and hairpins, brush lint off your shoulders, use cleaning fluid to remove stains, or help with needle and thread to repair small tears in seams and hems. Some could provide emergency sanitary supplies.

It would be nice to have wrapped mints available, as well as a spritz of anti-static spray. For weddings, the maid of honor often comes prepared with most of the above items, plus white chalk to conceal any dirt or stains on the wedding gown, extra panty hose in case of runs or tears, aspirin, Tums, and Pepto-Bismol tablets, and of course lots and lots of Kleenex.

Nowadays, upscale ladies' rooms with comfortable sitting areas are a welcome refuge for mothers to feed their babies. A supply of good-quality paper napkins would be welcome, as well as a changing table in the sink area, and disposable diapers in various sizes.

I think too many women thought that "Thank you so much!" was all they needed to say, when a generous tip was actually customary. That's probably why you don't see very many of these helpful ladies any more.

Under your wedding dress :))?

::Mare Bea

What do you wear? What type of bra? Girdle? SERIOUS QUESTION.

Answer
I suppose that all depends on style and comfort.

If you are wearing a strapless dress, most brides wear a strapless bra or a long line bra. A long line bra is a partially backless bra that has no straps. This bra has a front like a regular bra but it extends down to the waste band where it hooks closed in the lower back area.

If you want to wear nylons, then you wear nylons under your dress. With or without panties.

If you want bare legs, then you wear panties.

If you want to go braless, you do not wear a bra.

If your dress needs to be poofed out, then you wear either a hoop slip or a multi layered tulle slip or a crinoline slip.

Girdles have been replaced by other garments such as Spanks, a tight fitting nylon body hugger for the waist down to the shins. They can be uncomfortable and cause a bulge at the waistline.

It is best to try your undergarments on with your dress. Move around, sit and stand, raise your arms and move about. If everything stays put, then you have the right undergarment. If not, keep looking.

As a seamstress, I cannot express how important an undergarment is, especially on your wedding day. Go to the store and purchase all of the options that suit your needs. Take them all home and have a fitting fest. You will know when you have the right combination. Remember, above all, comfort is key. You do not want to be tugging on your dress or undies all day.

What do you think of short wedding dresses?

Q. i am having a small wedding and wanted a mroe unusual, contemporary wedding dress. what do you think?

http://www.boohoo.com/amfcart/shop.php?code=AZZ9772400

Answer
If your wedding is small and non-traditional then wear whatever you like the best. I like non tradional dresses, to me they signify a person who is original, unque and not afraid to be different and express their individuality, sort of like me. my advice would be to keep everything in the contemporary and non-traditonal theme. Good luck!

Bridesmaid dress colour?

Dec2012

I am getting married in December and I really want to do silver/charcoal bridesmaid dresses I have found a really awesome bridesmaid dress, long with ruching, but it only comes in a light silver with the next darkest colour - black. I don't want to do the black. I want to do some bold coloured flowers. Here is the question(s).
1) I have 1 light blonde bridesmaid and 1 darker blonde bridesmaid. Will the light silver wash them out?
2) Will a dark/bold purple flowers look good with silver?
Also....will the silver make the bridesmaid look big instead of slim?

Answer
I think light silver will likely look pretty on blond bridesmaids and won't wash them out. Blond women wear white all the time to their weddings.

Purple flowers will look awesome with the silver. It sounds beautiful.

One thought though, the light silver may be very close to the shade of your own dress white dress. If your comfortable with that, go for the light color. Otherwise considered a different dress with a darker silver color.

Need plus size wedding gown with high neck and long sleeves.?

tweedledee

I am 23 and about to get engaged for a second time. i am looking for a wedding dress that fits my reloigious modesty rules of sleeves covering the elbow and a neckline covering the collarbone. i am a size 16 , and seeing that it is a second marriage i don't wanna go all bright white. perhaps ivory or gold or champaign . can someone help?
i have found that most modest gown sites cater to LSD brides which are beautiful but not what i need. the sleeves are not long enough and the neckline high enough. i have tried the search engine thing with now luck. that's why i'm here.

Answer
Try this website for Jasmine Bridal. They have this thing called "Temple Ready" You get to pick the Jasmine dress of your choice, then you can choose your neckline (high, v-neck, etc.) and your sleeve length (no sleeve, short sleeve, etc.)
All of the Jasmine dresses are beautiful. Most of the dresses can be ordered in gold or ivory. They come up to a size 28 and they are fairly reasonable in price.
Here is a link to their site. http://www.jasminebridal.com/html/en/web2_templeready.asp
I hope that this helps! Good luck :)

Where can I order a Demetrios wedding gown??

christy_71

I found them at demetriosbride.com but theres no where to order them-- they just have a list of stores. What websites offer them to order?

Answer
Unfortunately you will not be able to order a true Demetrios gown online. You could try ebay, craigslist or www.sellyourweddingdress.com - however the chances of someone else selling the dress you like in your size is slim. You really should go into a store and have a professional measure you so that the dress is a guaranteed fit.

How can a mermaid wedding gown be bustled ?

AnswerGirl

I have a Demetrios wedding gown shown in the link . How can we have this bustled as the train is rather long . I have taken it to two seamstress & one suggested a french bustle but was un able to make it work, the Second seamstress indicated a traditional bustle can work but the dress still drags. What can I do to ensure i dont fall on this dress ? http://www.flickr.com/photos/27341760@N04/4667867003/ . How can I explain to the seamstress that the train needs to be hidden and not drag - but at the same time not ridiculous on by rear end.

Answer
what a lovely gown. you should contact demetrios directly and ask them for bustling instructions for this gown. they will be able to give you professional instructions to pass on to your seamstress.

if you bought the gown from a bridal salon, they ought to have onsite professionals who can do the bustle for you according to the designers instructions.

Looking for a Wedding gown designer in the SF Bay Area?

I am getting married (yippee) and am looking for a wedding gown designer in the bay area (SF, oakland, San Jose, Hayward, etc). I have pictures of my dream dress and MUST wear this on my big day. However, I am having a hard time trying to locate someone reputable who does really good work. I don't have a lot of time left as my wedding date is in July, so any references or help are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks In Advance

Answer

I found this website that lists a lot of different designers and seamstresses in san francisco, I think this will help you out a lot. My mom has hand made some of the most beautiful wedding dresses I have seen but we live in the bakersfield area and that may be too far for you. We hand sew all the beads and everything. They are beautiful dresses.

Renting your wedding gown....?

cranberry_

I just heard about this, I may consider this since our wedding budget isnt much {only $5000}; I have already been to Davids Bridal and fell in love with a dress there, its on sale until Tuesday of the coming week for $574.00 down $75.00 {I guess that's a good sale, I dont know}; but anyway I heard about the option of renting a wedding gown, I think that's fantastic, providing I can find a shop locally {San Francisco Bayarea}; and hopefully they have a gown equal to the beauty of the one I found at DB, I dont mind spending the $$ at DB, but what am I going to do with the dress after the ceremony, I do have two daughters that I could pass it down too, but theirs and my style are totally different. Any suggestions and comments welcome.

Thank you

Bride2b
wow, all your answers are great thanks for the help, just and FYI, I'm a street size 18 {just lost a whopping 170 lbs. whew!}; at DB I can fit comfortably with a very lil alterations a size 16 {a 14 fits too but a lil too tight on my back, all that back fat aint cute yuck!}; anyway does anyone have any info on buying a dress via ebay, I see some lovely ones even the one I tried on at DB, the seller is in China {isnt everything???}; I'm kinda afraid but the price is awesome, although I dont know the s&h, I'm waiting for that info from the seller, I dont want to waste my $$$, any feedback yahoo answeres {is that a word...?}: can give would prove invaluable.

Thanking you in advance....

Answer
I was considering renting a dress and then I watched videos of other brides at the chapel site where we married, and you could tell some of the brides who rented theirs-they practically tripped over the skirt part.

If you of average height I would think you would be OK, but I´m 5´2", and wouldn´t like tripping.

Plus size wedding dress and weight loss?

Shutterbug

I am getting married in October 2009 and I am a plus size bride. I have found the dress that I am absolutely in love with (I hate bridal shops) http://www.kiyonna.com/12060909-p-Bridal_Dresses.html?sblid=12060909

My question is, I would like to lose a few pounds before my wedding, but I want to order my dress now so I know I have it and dont have to worry about it going discontinued on me or something. I dont want to order it in any size that is too small for me now, I want to order what fits me now, even if i lose some weight later. Will this dress be easy enough for a seamstress to take in, if I shrink a size or two? I dont think theres any beads or anything like that, its just fabric with lace over it. Please only answer if you actually know the answer to this question or have an idea.

Answer
It can be taken in, as far as easy for a seamstress it depends on her skills. (or his) It will cost you a pretty penny to have it altered. Your best bet is to buy it take it to a seamstress and ask her how much to do the alterations. If you're willing to pay the additional cost go for it. If not take it back to the store within your return period. Alterations can cost anywhere from 200-1000 depending on what is being done. (Also if you lose too much weight, no matter how skilled the seamstress she will ultimately be sewing the dress from scratch and the dress will end up costing you double.)

My fiances mother emailed me a link to a plus sized wedding dress. Thoughtful or Rude?

Q. Ive been with my fiance for 3 years now & we were in the middle of planning a wedding when I just found out 4 weeks ago that Im pregnant. We told our parents & they were happy & surprised. My fiance & I discussed whether or not we will have a little quick wedding with just us before the baby is born or have the baby & proceed with our original wedding as planned sometime when we can afford a bigger wedding. But, here is the thing - we havent discussed any of this with my fiances mother, just the baby news & me being pregnant. So, as far as she knows, we never said we were going to go get married right now. I feel like she is the religious type who wont say so, but thinks down on us having a baby out of wedlock (hello! it's 2009!! times have changed!) and I checked my email tonight & she sent me a link to a plus sized wedding gown that she said "she thought I would look beautiful in" Half of me is like thanks for thinking of me, but the other half is offended because is she trying to hint for us to get married right now? And Im only 8 weeks pregnant so Im not that plus sized, that was a little ballsy of her as well. I just feel like we are grown adults, he's 32 & Im 29 & we can make our own decisions. What do you all think of her doing this? Thoughtful or rude??
To Belle Esprit:

I personally have never cared about whether or not someone had a child out of wedlock, it's their business & wouldnt judge a person over it. There are bigger things in this world to deal with. And, with divorce rates so high, I dont think people should get married because they had a child either. I think having a child is a blessing and that should be the main focus. It sounds petty & immature that you have resented your parents for their decisions. Be appreciative to be alive & healthy!
I dont resent my future mother in law. I know she is a nice person, but I can tell that she is thinking without coming out & saying it, that we should be married before the baby is born & this was her way of saying it without saying it.

The thing that annoys me is that my fiance & I never said we were going to get married anytime soon. Our original wedding was planned for Aug 2010. The fact that she assumes that we are going to do what she thinks is the "right thing to do" is pushy & judgemental. There are no rules to having a child & getting married later when we can have a nice wedding & I lose baby weight, plus have our child in the wedding. Its ultimately OUR decision to do whats right for us & the baby. This isnt Leave it to Beaver days where its uncommon to have a child out of wedlock. And, if I wanted a maternity wedding dress, I can look for one myself in the style that I would actually wear, not something ugly.

Answer
it is so not shameful to have a baby before marriage. im 9 months pregnant and my fiance and i plan on a destination wedding when im tan and thin again. back to your question- i do think she was being a bit rude- how does she know u didnt speed up the wedding? u probably wont show til your 6 months! (if youre anything like me) so to send you a plus size... wow! even if i was getting married today a plus size dress would be far too big- i would just go up a few sizes and alter it in my belly... but say thanks and then send her a suggestion on what she should wear to the wedding that is way too old for her :) teeheehee

Not a traditional wedding dress? Is it wrong to add color?

Tiffani L

I am designing my own wedding dress-for the most part the wedding is fairly traditional, but I want m dress to have color. It's a Christmas wedding and the colors are burgundy, cream, and gold (with touches of mauve). Anyway, the dress will most be cream-pretty simple on top, but the skirt will have the burgundy and gold laced in the ruffles at the bottom. It is 1850's Antebellum style. The outer layer will be cream, but you will be able to see the burgundy and gold. I know celebs where color, but I'm curious if it's considered "bad taste"?

Answer
Who's to say if it's bad? It's your wedding. Traditionally a first-time bride always wore white to signify virginity. A woman marrying for the 2nd time could not wear white.

This is from a wedding etiquette site:
This is your first wedding so you can wear what you like, most any style and color. However, your dress length is considered when you look at the formality of the wedding you are planning. A knee length dress would be appropriate only for a very informal affair and has nothing to do with age. most brides wear either tea length or floor length gowns.

Since it is so rare for a virgin bride to marry she should wear a different color dress than brides who are not virgins.

Answer
White wedding dresses came into fashion after the wedding of Queen Victoria
I think that was in the 1840's
Some time in the 1900's Christian churches said white wedding dressed are for virgin
They were just trying to have people not to have sex

So I would assume, a non virgin would be doing the white dress base on Queen Victoria, a fashion statement; not the view that came many years later that white wedding dresses are for virgin

Today they have maturity wedding dresses in white

In some cultures, they do not wear white, they wear red or black or other colors
