My fiance and I decided that we would like to get married April 12th, 2014. Which is about 7 months from now. I've obviously have never planned a wedding before and I feel like I'm behind on the check list. I'm not sure what I should have out of the way or when I should be "window shopping" for my dress or when I should go out and start dress fitting and whatnot. Please help, I'm really not trying to stress myself out too much.

Answer
Have you booked a ceremony and reception location yet? What about an officiant and caterer? Book those things BEFORE you worry about a dress, because your date is not set until those things are booked.

If they ARE booked, then I would start looking around for a dress pretty soon. Some salons take 6-8 months to order a dress, so depending on what you want, you may not have a lot of time.

That being said, there are plenty of stores where you can get a bridal gown quicker than that. David's Bridal and Group USA are examples of stores where you can walk out with a bridal gown in one day.

Some salons may have a floor sample that they'll sell you, and you'll just need to spend some extra money getting it dry cleaned and maybe have a tailor fix some little errors (if it's the store sample then it may have small rips or the beading may be loose, from so many people trying it on).

If you order a bridesmaid's dress in white, it'll probably arrive within 3-5 months of ordering it. There are plenty of elegant bridesmaids' dresses out there that could easily pass as wedding gowns.

Some department stores have wedding gowns that you can buy off-the-rack, or off their websites. Check out Macy's, Nordstrom, and Dillard's, for example.

Look in a store like Windsor that sells prom gowns, or look in a department store. Or look in a regular clothing store like BCBG or White House Black Market.

Jcrew.com and AnnTaylor.com have wedding gowns on their websites.

You can look around in consignment stores, thrift shops, eBay, and Craigslist for a gown. Or visit a good local seamstress and see if she can custom-make a gown for you by April.

Ultimately, you can wear anything you want ... so if you're in a department store and you see a knockout red evening gown that looks fantastic on you, get it for your wedding! You aren't limited to a white "bridal gown," you know ... wear anything that you love.

Which bridesmaid dresses would look good with this wedding dress?

Answer
Off the bat ... this looks like this is a formal wedding gown, so I assume that your whole wedding is formal? If so, it'd probably be best to put the bridesmaids in long gowns, or at least very well-cut and well-made cocktail dresses in a quality fabric.

It's hard to give you exact suggestions because you didn't mention what price range you have in mind for the bridesmaids' dresses. Have you contacted each girl in private to ask what she would like to spend? If not, do that BEFORE you even start to think about what you'll ask them to wear. You can't just pick a dress and expect them to pay for it ... you need to get every girl's budget, and then look for a designer that every single one of them can afford (or you need to be willing to pay the difference yourself).

As a VERY general rule, I'll tell you that people in my (high cost-of-living) circle generally shoot for $200 or less - anything more than that is really ridiculous. But, again, DO NOT set a price without talking to the girls first. And remember that they'll need to pay for alterations. And DO NOT make them get matching shoes, or get pro hair/makeup/nails done - if you mandate anything outside the dress and alterations then you need to pay for it yourself. Otherwise you can pick a neutral shoe color (silver, black, gold) and allow them to get their hair/makeup done anywhere or do it themselves.

You need to let them try on some dresses, rather than just arbitrarily picking something for them. If you more than 2 or 3 total bridesmaids, I suggest going to a salon or a department store (whichever you prefer) with your Maid of Honor and narrowing it down to a few dresses within everyone's budget - maybe 5-8 max - and then you can invite the other girls to pick a winner from that selection.

Also, remember that most designers will offer different styles (different necklines, sleeve options, form-fitting vs. a looser cut) within the same color/fabric/skirt length. So you can always give each girl an option to pick her own style ... that way, they'll look very similar, but they all get to pick an individually flattering style. Many bridal parties nowadays go this route, and sometimes it's easier than trying to find one magic dress that'll flatter different women (which is almost always impossible).

That being said, here are some basic styles that I would personally try out if I were you:

My friend and I have been scoping out Homecoming dresses lately. She keeps commenting on how I can wear any color because of my tan skin tone, and how no colors look good against her pale skin. She has very pale skin and beautiful red hair, so I suggested teals and greens, but she still thinks they look bad on her. Do you have any suggestions of dress colors or shades that would work well on very pale skin tones? Thanks in advance for all advice and suggestions =)

Answer
Greens, maroons, and dark/warm browns will look great on your friend.

LDS members, What is with the cap Sleeves on Wedding Gowns?

wedding gowns with sleeves image
Q. I have spent all day looking at modest wedding gowns ( yes i am
lds )

And almost every single one has the same exact neckline with
cap sleeves. Cap sleeves are those perfectly square t-shirt sleeves.
I realize the need to cover up to a certain point but at least
try a new style! Like puffed sleeves or tulip sleeves, maybe
a slightly different bodice. I mean every single one looks like
a satin T-shirt attatched to a wedding gown skirt.

What the heck?

Why?

Answer
I'm not LDS, but the main reason this has become a popular style with brides, not just members of your faith, is that it is cool, comfortable, in May/June/July heat. It is a flattering style on most women without being overdone or showing too much skin.
I suggest you try

http://www.bridesave.com

for a wide selection of styles. They have the best gown search on the web. You can select to look at gowns by designer, neckline, sleeve, bodice, skirt, price, and many more.

Congrats and Good Luck!

My fiance & I just had our son. We want to have a small wedding with around 75-100 people next year on about a 10,000 dollar budget. My mom has a beautiful backyard so we have the venue covered. I'm not into the huge "party reception" I just want an elegant ceremony & a few hors derves & drinks to follow. My main priority is to have a beautiful gown, flowers, a gorgeous cake & invites. Any suggestions on ways to make it look lustrous & fantastic without going over budget? I'm open to any suggestions.

Answer
Look for packages. and Dress Sales. I got my wedding dress new for 99.99 and everybody's freaking because it looks like it was 1000.000(I think the original price was 647...) I got my 2 tier veil with my dress half off as well.
Plus we're getting married at a beautiful bed and breakfast that does the catering, cake, serving, tents, clean up, ect, for over 100 guests, for 3500.00.

I'm also looking at cruises for our honeymoon. Carnival does 7 day cruises to 3 caribean islands, food/drinks included for 864.00(I think that's per person but I still like the thought)

Plus for reception things that I'd like to add in, I go to http://www.orientaltrading.com

You can also make your own bouquets or find a crafty person who can make them for you. Just go to a walmart, dollar tree, hobby lobby, sams club, ect and pick out the flowers.

Need help finding a wedding venue in Chicagoland & burbs. Need both ceremony and reception ideas?

I'm looking for something a little different. Looking at dates in spring. I don't want the typical big expensive ballroom/banquet hall (unless it's cheap!). We cannot afford $50-$100 per person for dinner anyway! I'm even considering southern Wisconsin. A restaurant with big private room would even be nice. A scenic lake/river ceremony or waterfall (haha) would be so pretty! All ideas would be appreciated! Where was the prettiest wedding you've been to?

Answer
there are so many lovely places for weddings in the chicago area. here are a few ideas with some pricing info to guide you.

the jacob henry mansion in chicago is a great place for weddings and receptions. the old central church makes a lovely spot for the ceremony and the mansion for receptions. their luncheon menu starts at about 19.95 per person, dinner around 29.95...which includes use of venue. http://www.jacobhenrymansion.com/index.html

bryon colby barn at prairie crossing in grayslake is a nice rustic type of site. the gazebo is a lovely spot for a ceremony and rents for 250 dollars which includes chairs. the barn for the reception rents for 2395. if you use their catering, it starts at 20.95 per person. http://www.prairiecrossing.com/pc/site/barn_index.php

grove redfield estates offers both gazebo weddings and the schram memorial chapel. the chapel rents for 475 for 4 hours, but you get 15% off if you have the reception at the estates, which rents for 2,200 for 7 hours. byo catering. http://www.glenviewparks.org/The-Grove/Redfield-Estate.htm

astoria banquets offers great packages starting at 19.99 per person for luncheon...which includes use of the venue for ceremony and reception and the food and drink. http://astoriabanquets.com/

the bennet-curtis house in grant park has one of the best package deals i have seen in the area. the house and grounds are lovely with beautiful garden areas for the ceremony. with several packages to choose from, the prices start at $11,200 for up to 100 guests....but what you get is incredible. this price includes the ceremony site, the minister, music, gift table with a card box, guest book table, place card table, a 200 dollar allowance toward invitations, the bridal bouquet, a toss bouquet, 3 attendant bouquets, up to 7 boutonnieres for groom and attendants and fathers, 2 mother coursages, centerpieces for the head table and all the guest tables, a wedding cake with your choice of flavors and fillings, a horse drawn carriage for your arrival and departure, departure goodie basket, photography package, free groom's tux, gown preservation and cleaning for your gown, 4 hour bar and champagne toast, appetizers for your guests while you do your photos, chicken wellington full plated dinner for 100, cutting and service for your wedding cake....all in that one price. i know you said you cannot afford 100 dollars per person and this does work out to be slightly more than that, but it provides you with everything you need for a beautiful wedding and leaves you with no headaches. to look at the place and their package deals, http://bennettcurtis.com/weddings.htm

there is a bed and breakfast in geneva called the oscar swan which offers use of their lovely facility for wedding ceremonies and receptions. their prices start at 17.50 per person which includes venue use, as far as i was able to discern. http://www.oscarswan.com/

one of the greatest even resources you have is the chicago park district. they have so many lovely venues, some on the lake, some in garden settings, some with fountains or waterfalls. they can all be rented starting at around 500 dollars up to several thousands, depending on what you want and how many guests you have. some of them require you to choose their prefered caterers, but some allow you to byo. take a look at this site for a listing of all the event centers which are available for rent in the parks district and their prices. you are sure to find something you will love. justt scroll down the page to view where to click for each one. http://www.cpdit01.com/resources/permits.special-event-venues/

Best places in Denver for wedding dress shopping for a gal who is size 16?

Laura

My sister will be visiting in December and we are going shopping for the first time to check out wedding gowns. She's a size 16 and I know many bridal boutiques only keep stock up to size 10...
Anybody know of a bridal shop that carries sample dresses in a larger size?

Answer
I think you would probably have luck at Abbydress. This shop is making more dresses with sleeves now, too. It also has sales all the time.
If you aren't scared of buying online, try http://www.abbydress.com/, that's where my best friend got her wedding dress, and she loved it! It has a great return policy, and awesome customer service. I know two other women who ordered there dresses there after seeing hers.
Regarding the size, it won't be a problem. It got plus size category, it helps you better find a suitable wedding dress. I have also checked the size box, nearly each dress got 16. So you really do not have to worry about it.You can also customize your own size anyway. And the most important thing is, you can enjoy fine quality at affordable price.
I also like to give suggestion and share fashion and interesting things on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/abbyweddingdress You can come and share your fashion opinions with other people.:-)
Good luck!

Would you care if someone else wore a white dress to your wedding?

PackersFan

There's that rule that says only the bride should wear white because otherwise it is seen as upstaging the bride. If I had a wedding, especially an outdoor wedding, I think it would look nice to see my guests wearing white and other light colors. It would add to the fairytale. How do you feel about this rule of etiquette? Would you feel like you were being upstaged or do you not really care?
@Tina: I wasn't there, but I'm pretty sure if Kate didn't want Pippa to wear that, she could have said so.

Answer
I wouldn't like it.
Look at the Royal Wedding, a lot of people said that Pippa upstaged Kate.
They both looked beautiful, but Pippa really should have worn something else.
I can't see me being upstaged at my wedding, but it's nice to know that I'm the one that's in white (well, I'm wearing ivory) but you get the point, lol.

What kind of hair and makeup would go good with a purple satin dress?

Silly Bear

Me and my husband are trying to save our marriage with a date night. What kind of hair and make up will go good with a purple satin dress that has a diamond middle piece. its a short dress. also what kind of nails. and accesories. and wwhat color shoes? also the plans are going to dinner and movie and then dancing. so something that will look good for all that?

thanks :)

Answer
if it were me, i would leave my hair flowing out, and maybe some diamonte hairclips to match the diamond middle piece in the dress, if anything. i think a basic french manicure would look lovely with that, very classy, and "natural" to a mans point of view anyway. i think a diamond/diamonte elegant necklace and matching earrings would look beautiful, if not then purple feather earrings, and matching necklace would also look stunning. feather jewellery is very in at the moment, and sets of the "natural" look i've been trying to portray. with shoes my general rule is either the exact same colour of the dress or darker. so if you cant find shoes to match th exact purple of the dress, wear black shoes, heels, of course. black heels are always guaranteed to make your legs look slimmer and longer. hope i helped, good luck :)

Wedding dresses for short plus sized women?

My friend might get married soon and I was wondering what type of dress would look best for her. She is about 5'2 and is about a size 20 so she is a little bigger. She is bigger waist down has a very big bust. Im not doing this to be rude I'm just trying to find answers so she knows what to try on when we go dress shopping.

Answer
An A-line style will likely be the best, they are the most forgiving in the stomach area. Next would be a ball gown. My cousin was 5 months pregnant when she got married (she was planning the wedding before she was pregnant) and she wore an A-Line dress and you couldn't even tell she was pregnant.

I would also have her check out corset shops to help with body shapers, body shapers work great! But some are god awful uncomfortable, which is why I'm recommending a corset shop instead of buying one off the rack, they can custom make one. Yes, they cost a little more, but they fit a lot better!

I was once her size (I'm 5'0" weighed 230, my stomach was my "big" area and I have a big bust, I'm 135 now, my stomach is still my problem and I still have a big bust).

I can tell you from personal experience that she will need to be sure before she goes looking that these bridal shops will have dresses she can actually TRY ON! Many do not for plus sized women, but if you call and make an appointment they usually will try to accomodate you and have them on hand.

If you have a David's Bridal near you, I would really recommend going to them, they have a huge selection in wedding dresses for plus sized women, they have the most to choose from of any designer for that, and they are very nice. Just as an FYI: David's bridal is expensive on their alterations, you may want to find someone else for that.

I was in my brothers wedding, and when we went to get fitted for the dresses, the bride was also a plus size and they didn't "really" have dresses for us to try on that fit. Mine was a special case that I was getting fitted for a dress in Feb/March, having bariatric surgery in June and then the wedding was in October, since we knew I'd weigh less but not how much my dress was ordered a few sizes smaller than what fit for me the day of the fitting, it still had to be taken in more.

Also, formal wear is not very forgiving on sizes, they run very small. A size 20 dress in normal apparel is a 28-30 in wedding apparel. I had sticker/size shock when I figured that out.

What style of wedding dress is flattering for my body?

pixie_vixe

I recently got engaged, and even though the wedding is a bit off, I would like to start looking for a dress now since I understand it is a time consuming process sometimes. I would like to know what would be most flattering for me. I have a very large bust (42 DDD) and many say it is unproportional to the rest of my body. I have recently gained weight, and wear a size 14-15, but up untill recently I have been somewhere between 10-13. So I am not very large, but not tiny either. What style (bodice, waist, sleeve, skirt, train etc) would be most slimming and supportive for my chest? I like lace up front corset tops, but having trouble finding them anywhere.

Answer
I have a 40DD bust and I look good in a halter neck gown, especially one with a v-neck:
http://www.alfredangelo.com/index.cfm/fuseAction/COLLECTIONS.productDetail/fromAdvancedSearch/0/productID/7d754c0c-9efb-4745-92d1-84dde261eb80/categoryID/1af402e9-205f-4b7b-9d22-6fec77b3d187

An off the shoulder gown with some coverage on the arms is also a really good look:
http://www.alfredangelo.com/index.cfm/fuseAction/COLLECTIONS.productDetail/fromAdvancedSearch/0/productID/9f1d71bb-48e6-4e74-827c-7ac490c0f34f/categoryID/1af402e9-205f-4b7b-9d22-6fec77b3d187

I really like gowns with sheer sleeves and a deep v-neck that you can wear a regular bra with:
http://www.alfredangelo.com/index.cfm/fuseAction/COLLECTIONS.productDetail/fromAdvancedSearch/0/productID/0da8b75e-d78b-4b69-b2fa-e7cfc8c1c313/categoryID/1af402e9-205f-4b7b-9d22-6fec77b3d187

If you are going to wear a gown that requires a strapless bra make sure you get a good one. Also, you don't want a backless bra, once your cup size gets above a D backless is not attractive. I wear a Goddess long line and it holds up the goods pretty well:
http://www.biggerbras.com/goddess-full-figure-plus-size-bras/gds-689.shtml

The train isn't that important, it's more what you want because they all pretty much look the same when you wear it. The skirt isn't as important as the bodice. Pretty much any skirt except maybe mermaid should work for you.

The best advice that I can give you is go and try on gowns. Try on alot of different types of dresses until you find something that looks good on you. Don't get caught up by the little details of the dress, don't buy something because you like the beading. It's more important that the gown looks good on you, not that the lace is nice. You really have to look at yourself in the gown and make sure that it's flattering. Make sure it's not too tight, there's nothing worse than seeing all of brides rolls around her middle. Also if you go with strapless make sure there aren't any rolls hanging out over the top, very unattactive.

Another thing you might want to consider is a bridesmaids dress in a lighter color. Separates might work for you with your large bra size and you can do separates a little easier in bridesmaids dresses, and they're usually less expensive. Although, most bridesmaids gowns don't have a train.

I have a navy blue sweater dress what color tights and shoes should I wear to match it?

Answer
There are many colorful and patterned tights to choose from today that will look nice with a navy blue sweater dress. However which color you choose has to do with your figure and age/attitude. If you are on the short side you can wear navy tights with navy or black shoes. Another safe color choice is to wear black tights and black shoes. You will appear taller and thinner with these color combinations. If you are tall and thin and young or have a young attitude you can wear colored tights like red or wine colored tights with navy shoes or navy tights and red shoes. Try some different color tights and shoe combinations to get an idea what is most flattering on you. You can also check out some tiny patterned tights with navy blue in them. When wearing colorful tights and shoes attention will be drawn to your lower leg. You only want to draw attention to good looking legs (accentuate the positive). If your legs are heavy stick with navy or black tights.

What color shoes and nail polish would be appropriate for this dress?

I am wearing this to a wedding this weekend. I was thinking either shiny black, silver, or maybe white, or maybe blue if I can find one close enough to the color of the dress. Not that it matters, but I was planning on not wearing heels since my boyfriend is already the same height as me if not slightly shorter. For nail polish, I didnt know if I should try to match the dress or do something different. Any suggestions? I was also wondering about the purse, is it supposed to match the shoes? Thanks.

Answer
I would definitely do French Nails but if you can't do that or get that done then definitely go with silver nail polish. And If it were me, I would do some really cute wedges, maybe red for a pop of color, but since you don't want to wear heels then maybe try finding ballet flats, just try and add a pop of color to your outfit, whether it be your nails, your shoes, or your purse, as for the purse, do a clutch bag, its supper cute and classy!!! Have fun at the wedding!!

Who buys the dresses for the bridal party?

R.

We are having a vow-renewal ceremony (wedding), and I am wondering who usually buys the bridal maids/maid-of-honor dresses? Also mother of the bride/groom's dresses? Thanks.

Answer
Traditionally, the bride/bride's family picks up the costs of those in the bridal party and this includes the dresses. However, as more couples have started to pay for their own weddings, they have put the cost of being in the wedding back on those participating which means the bridesmaids pay for their own. The mother of the bride and the mother of the groom may choose whatever they wish to wear (although they usually ensure it coordinates with the wedding colors) and are responsible for paying for their own outfits. Congratulations.

What colors should I use for an early October vow renewal ceremony in Florida?

Ggirl99

It's still warm/humid in the early part of October there. Any ideas about colors? I like these combos so far:

Coral, browns, pinks (lillys?)
or
Navy blue, light pink, roses?

what color dress should I wear? I don't want to wear white again or cream colors, something brighter and more fun instead.

and your suggestions would be so helpful! :O)

Answer
My opinion too you might suck .. Cuz everyone says i have no taste but .... I think
Flowers
A light Yellow , dark Pink , and a medium Orange . Those would look so pretty togather ( well to me they would )
And
The Dress
Just wear something Fun . Something u would normally wear . But something Elegant and Lovely All at the samee time .. I think i would go with a Bright Orange Flowing Dress ..

I hope this helped ( probley didnt )

I am a size 16-18 and I want to wear a strapless dress for my wedding but my mother picked another dress. She says because of my strecth marks and I guess my fat back lol and the dark spots I have under my arms I shouldn't wear one but I want to wear one how can I get rid of these issues to look good in a strapless dress.

Answer
Don't get stuck on strapless. Try on lots of different styles, and be open-minded. You might be surprised!

For example, a halter-style top is great if you have narrow shoulders. It makes your shoulders look more broad and balances you out:

A sleeveless, thick-strapped dress is ideal if you are very busty, because you can wear a regular bra underneath. If you're heavy up-top, this is a good option because it will flatter your decolletage more than a strapless bustier: http://www.janema.com/uppic/2009427174830American-Famous-Designer-Bonny-s-Plus-Size-Wedding-Dress-B-01023-.jpg

A short, sheer sleeve or shrug is another option, especially if you want to hide dark underarms. These designs are sophisticated and pretty without being matronly: http://www.bigisbeautifulatbridaldreams.com/userimages/1712l.jpg

Another option that has the same sexiness as a strapless gown is the off-shoulder sleeve. It gives you that lovely neckline, but covers up a bit more in the back so you're not so "exposed." They also hit the shoulders in *just* the right place, which creates and "hourglass" image AND makes your arms look slimmer:

Why are most wedding dresses strapless and sleeveless?

Amelia

I like the show Say Yes To The Dress and I've noticed most of the dresses are strapless and sleeveless, even in the plus sized edition. Honestly, I don't think strapless or sleeveless dresses look good on women with big arms. Why aren't their more options for dresses with sleeves, for both sizes of women?
I thought Kate Middleton's wedding dress was great and it had sleeves.

Answer
Strapless is the current fashion trend. Its harder right now because of that to find dresses that are not strapless or sleeveless.

Really only about 10% of brides (if that many) can pull off a strapless gown and have it look good.

Any dress though can have sleeves added to it. My dress was originally strapless but I had sleeves added to it. My husband is Muslim and the wedding was in a Mosque where sleeveless/strapless is frowned upon and in many cases not allowed.

Even without that I had planned to add sleeves or look for a gown that had them. I know what doesn't look good on me. I lost 100lbs but I still couldn't pull that off.

There are dresses out there with sleeves the style you need to look for is a "modest" gown.

How much dose a Kimono cost in Canadian dollars?

I would like to wear one at my Wedding!
Kimono's are form Japan -_-;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimono
Yes from Japan.
A wedding one so Silk!

Answer
Okay well, since you want a silk one, that answers the question of material. But there are a lot of other questions to take into consideration as well. Do you need it to be new or would you be willing to get a second-hand one as long as it was in good condition? What style do you want (furisode, houmongi, etc.)? The style will be determined partly by your own tastes, partly by what kind of wedding you're having, and partly by how accurate you want your kimono to be for the occasion. For example, a Japanese bride usually goes through at least two uchikake and two furisode at her wedding, but you probably don't want to put up with that many costume changes, so you might only want one formal kimono. If you want to be able to use it after the wedding, you might consider using a houmongi or an irotomesode, since both can be worn by married women. If you don't plan to wear it again, you could probably get a furisode and either give it to a friend or resell it for a good price (nice furisode can get very high bids on eBay).

So, let's assume furisode. A second-hand silk furisode in good condition can cost you as little as $100 (or maybe a bit less). However, they can be a lot more expensive than that. I have seen some go for almost $1000, but those are usually either antiques or part of a set that includes a juban, obi, obi age, obi jime, zori, and/or a purse (it varies from set to set and seller to seller). If you absolutely must have a brand-new furisode, you're going to be hard pressed to find one for under $1000. It's not unusual for a brand-new furisode to sell for $10000, $20000, or even more -- there's one on Yamatoku going for $30000 right now. You'll also have to make sure you include room in your budget for the following accessories: one fukuro obi, one obi age, one obi jime, one juban, one obi makura, one obi ita, a pair of tabi socks, a pair of zori, one date jime, and at least 4 himo ties. Other things you might consider adding (but that aren't required) are a decorative han eri to attach to your juban collar, one or two date eri (sometimes also called kasane eri), a purse to match your zori, Japanese hair ornaments, and some kind of shawl or stole if the weather is cold.

In all, a full furisode set will probably cost at least as much as a high-quality, expensive western-style wedding gown, and possibly even more -- and that's if you get all the items second hand! Seriously, a price tag of $1000 for a complete set wouldn't shock me at all, though some careful shopping could cut that price down for you. Now, there are ways to cut costs a bit further, and exactly what you do is going to depend again on how accurate you want to be and what kind of wedding you're having. If you're having a huge, very formal wedding, you probably don't want to stray too far from the furisode because the furisode is the kimono equivalent of an evening gown (or wedding gown, in this case) for young unmarried women. You might be able to get away with a houmongi, which will require the same basic accessories as the furisode but which can often be bought for much cheaper than a furisode. If you're having a smaller wedding or if you don't care about being 100% accurate to the Japanese uses of different kinds of kimono, you could probably get away with a tsukesage or an iromuji. Actually, an iromuji with a nice obi might be an excellent option for you, since iromuji are extremely versatile and their formality can be adjusted according to the number of crests they have (none, one, three, or five, with five being the most formal) and what kinds of accessories you wear with it (you could use a nice nagoya obi instead of a fukuro obi, which seriously limits the kinds of bows you can tie but also cuts costs down even more because nagoya obis are usually WAY cheaper than fukuro obis). I hesitate to put an exact price on anything, but I'd say a nice iromuji with appropriate accessories and a nice nagoya obi instead of a fukuro obi could cost you half of what the furisode set would cost, if you look around hard enough and if you're flexible with what you're willing to buy and wear. In other words, don't set your heart on a red iromuji. Pick two or three colors you would be happy with and look for all of them.

Okay, this is turning into an essay and is probably way more than you wanted, but I felt like I needed to include the info because kimono are kind of complicated. I also used the Japanese terms for everything because it's often hard to explain what things are in English, and because when you start looking for items you'll want their proper names to make sure you're getting the real thing and not some horrible cheap satin-bathrobe knockoff. Anyway, if you want any terms explained, or want help choosing things, or anything like that feel free to email me. There's a link in my profile.

How many people did you have? Was the food served or buffet style?

Answer
I have attended weddings which cost under $1000 easily all the way through.
I have attended weddings which cost the price of a really good home.
The ones I felt most relaxed in were the ones I mention on the top line of this response.
Are you aware you can purchase a bridal gown at a second hand shop? I think you can even rent.
Are you aware a man's suit costs a little more brand new than renting the tux ensemble?

What type of wedding dress would compliment a plus size figure?

DaniGirl

If the bride is a bigger woman, are there wedding dresses that will look better on her? Can you give me a few examples?

Thank you.

Answer
I looked at the sites one of the posters suggested. Here's my advice:

â Don't choose a strapless gown, or even one with thin straps. Choose one with a halter top or a built-up neckline, perhaps with sleeves.

â The fuller skirts look prettier than the more closely-cut ones.

â All the dresses look great on the models standing still, with ideal lighting. But as you move, bend, dance, etc. a covered-up style will look beautiful on you at all times. Personally I like the "Return to tradition" concept very much.

It is really bothering me because I have a dark brown circle under my eyes and my skin is very light brown. It looks creepy because I am only 22 and young. I want to get rid of it

Answer
The answer? No beauty products can do that. If you have concealer on, and you look sideways, you can still see those dark bags under the eyes or some calls it dark circles. Only in magazines they're airbrushed & TV, they look like they're NOT THERE.

Without wearing tons of make up, they can't just go away. Don't believe me? Google them and see their latest photos.

I have these moderate sized bags under my eyes. I'm pretty sure it's because of my horrible fall allergies, but I'm not 100% sure. Do you know how to get rid of them besides waiting until the season ends? Also, if you don't know, what are great under eye concealers for pale skin?
Thank you. :)
