Anyone know of a cheap place to have a reception and ceremony in north jersey? We have a budget of about 15000 to 20000. 20K is the limit tho! I want something nice and affordable. We live in NYC so north jersey is about as far out as we can go!
Even if you know of places in Long Island, NYC or CT that are within the price range of about 70-100 per person.. please please let me know
Thanksss
Answer
you have a pretty good budget for finding venues in new york, so you shouldn't have too much trouble.
for something different, try the royal princess which offers harbor cruise weddings. the package price is 16,000 for up to 100 guests plus 500 for the officiant to perform the ceremony. there are also docking fees of about 500 dollars depending upon where you depart from. if you add in a dj, theirs is 1000 and the gratuity is about $10pp. so for about 19,000 you can have a first class (real linen, china, silver and crystal service) wedding and reception on a fun venue. http://www.nyboat.com/gallery/weddings/wedding-package/
if you are interested in a historical site, the morris jumel mansion rents its facilities for 350 dollars per hour (min 2000) to members who have a membership of 250 dollars. it is a lovely old mansion with pretty grounds. you can rent the whole place for a wedding and reception lasting say 6 hours for 2100 plus the 250 membership fee, which would leave you plenty of money for a good catering service for the food and drink. even if you spent as much as 150 per person on your catering (which is alot) you would still come out ahead. http://morrisjumel.org/information/index.php?sec=info&sub=site
for an all inclusive place where you don't have to do much besides find your gown and show up, ariana waterfall is a very nice venue which has great package prices. their all inclusive packages range from about 9950 to 11950 for up to 100 guests and 55 to 70 pp respectively for everyone over 100 guests. this includes everything you need for a great ceremony and reception party including the bar. they also do off premisis catering if you decide to use a venue where you need to bring in your own catering. http://www.arianawaterfallcatering.com/priceplans
if you are interested in a great view, check out this site which offers several loft of rooftop venues. they don't list prices because the price depends upon which venue you are interested in and how many people you want to have, so you would need to contact them. http://loft11.com/
have you always wanted to see your name up in lights? the cherry lane theatre (home of off-broadway) is now available for rental. they have either two or three sites they will rent out. again the prices are not listed, but you can check on them for something really different. http://cherrylanetheatre.org/

We've been married 2 yrs. We had a June wedding so I wore a strapless gown. I wanted a very elaborate gown with lace, beads, and crystals. Oleg Cassini from David's Bridal.
We had a tropical theme. We love cruising and were going on one for our honeymoon. My bridesmaids wore a long turquoise. We ordered extra fabric and my flower girl had a seamstress make her what she called a "mermaid dress". It was turquoise but had a green sheer overlay. I used turquoise for most of my tablecloths, lime green for the buffet tables, and coral for the cake table, gift table and head tables.
My cake was tropical as well. I had 3 tier traditional cake with coconut, almond, vanilla cake with pineapple, mango, and chocolate filling. I had a non-alcoholic pineapple punch. This also inspired the flowers. I used coral roses, some birds of paradise, a few orchids, and stargazer lily. And the centerpieces were glads since they are multibloom per stem and you can use fewer flowers. In tall clear vases with river rock and votive candles scattered around the vase. We decorated with Caribbean pictures, hammocks and palm trees, to set the mood. One of them was a nice oil canvas set on an easel at the entrance. We have it hanging in our den now. We had tiki torches leading up the walk and around the bar. A handpainted bowl from Mexico for envelopes on the gift table. A bunch of Caribbean pictures around the area. Hibiscus flowers scattered around and tied to trees. Lots of greenery in the foyer. The reception had a foyer so that when they walked through there was a jungle element before coming into the island. And the favors were candles in tropical scents--mango daquri, pina colada, margarita and ocean. Despite the tropical theme, it was still an evening formal wedding.
It completely suited us b/c I am completely against pastels and I hate pink. We are both the outdoorsy type and wanted the wedding to make you think of snorkeling in some of the islands we love. Most of all we wanted a party. We wanted a wide variety of music that a lot of people like, keeping you on the dance floor all night long. We had wine flowing all night long but couldn't afford liquor. We served tropical drinks at the rehearsal but the wedding was just too much. We completely succeeded. Even my grandparents were partying til after midnight.
As for the wedding itself, it was very traditional. Though I was very careful not to make it too Christian. I had a large bridal party (4 on each side) and multiple religions so I didn't want my wedding to make anyone feel out of place.
