My wedding is on July 10th 2011. That means that it's only 11 months away!?

I have found two dresses that I love because they are simple and would be great for a summer wedding. I am having the wedding at the Hilton Hotel and the hotel itself is big and beautiful. I need to know which one of these dresses would be a better fit for the venue and the time of year. Plus I have no idea how early I should buy the dress. I have heard of girls buying a year in advance and 6 months in advance.

I work in a bridal salon as a consultant. I always suggest to my brides to allow 6-9 months to special order a dress. Yes, I've had it take 9 months to get a dress in before, it doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen, especially if you're wanting to make changes or you want the dress in a color they don't do all the time. As far as which dress you should select, you should try them both on, and see how you feel then, and pick the dress that makes you feel absolutely beautiful and like a bride. A bride knows when she's got THE dress on, you'll get emotional, you'll carry yourself differently, you'll glow, both inside and out. They both have a completely different feel, the first is definitely more vintage inspired, very 1950's New Look. The 2nd dress is more modern, particularly with the ruffles. Never pick a wedding gown from pictures, remember those are models wearing those dresses, they're about 5'10" to 6' tall and are about a size 0 or 2.

You wouldn't be unusual to go ahead and purchase your dress. Many brides do, and the dress really dictates so much about the wedding.

Good luck!

When should my bridesmaids order their dresses?

I'm getting married in July 2011. When should my bridesmaids order their dresses? I have the dresses picked out already. And when should I order my dress?

Answer
Sometimes, salons have what are called "in stock" dresses --- ones that are popular so the manufacturer has them readily available to ship & you can get them quickly. And the salon can usually give you an idea of how long it will take, too.

I'd be hassling them to order now or by end of January at the LATEST. Two of my bridesmaids are plus-sized and one of those two is very tall and needed extra length on her dress. It took 5 months for the dresses to come in and then they had to get alterations on top of that!
And you should also be ordering now, too. Wedding gowns can sometimes take longer than bridesmaids dresses to come in!
