I LOVE the idea of yellow and grey together for a wedding color scheme. My mom thinks the grey is too drab so I'm wondering if I should add accents of another color? If so, what color? I definitely want the bridesmaid dresses to be grey, and the groomsmen will wear black tuxedos with grey vests. My fiancee loves the whole idea too, we just aren't sure what to put with it.
I would love some of your creative suggestions :)
Answer
Actually, I would ignore your mother's input on this. Yellow and gray are complementary colors and look well together. Gray is not drab. It is elegant and sophisticated. Gray is silver--is silver drab? No, it isn't. I don't think your mother is able to visualize just how stunning the color combo really is. You don't need more accent colors, as you can use a variety of yellows, grays, and silvers which will look very rich and sumptuous. A little white in your dress and maybe the table lines should be the only other color you use.
You and your fiance should use the colors you like and let your mother's opinion fall to the side.

I'm having a hard time coming up with wedding colors for my wedding on October18, 2008. I'm very picky about making sure it doesn't clash with the venues. The church has dark brown pews with red cushions and the floor is red. the floor goes up into steps and onto a stage so the red is pretty prominent. The reception hall has sage green floors and that color goes halfway up the walls.
Any ideas? pics and links to schemes are greatly appreciated:)
Any other ideas you have for the decor or all around look of the wedding would be wonderful:)

Question
Dear Nancy, My daughter is getting married this October. The church is quite old and has red seat cushions on the wooden pews. She has chosen plum bridesmaid dresses. What fall flowers could you suggest for the church and the reception as well as the bouquets for the bridesmaids? She wants and all white bouquet. Her dress is formal and the wedding is in the afternoon. The reception is to be at a country club which is a renovated Pennsylvania fieldstone farmhouse. The ballroom carpet has plum, cream and dark green. Thanks so much!
Answer
Hi Leslie,
I would stay away from all dark colors like plum for bouquets. Dark colors photograph as a hole in the bouquet. So sticking with the other fall colors would be the way to go. You may choose yellow or red. Or yellow and red.
Many flowers are available all year to choose from. Roses always top my list and come in many color varieties.
If you want to do an all red bouquet for the maids consider Amaryllis and roses. Peak supplies of Amaryllis are October through May. They are very long lasting. They go together beautifully with roses.
Lillies are also nice. Your local florist may have a few ideas of her own, too. They will also may be aware of local suppliers that may come into play. And also what she likes according to her artistic talent.
