Is it too much to spend $7,800 on a wedding dress?

Q. My cousin just bought her wedding dress. Well, she's getting it tailor made. It's going to cost her $7,800. Is this price reasonable?

Thanks.
Note: she is very fussy. lol.
I keep telling her it's too much for a dress she will only wear once...she doesn't agree =\ i figured i would ask this question so she could see that she's the crazy one and not me...
It's her wedding i guess so i'm going to stop pestering her haha

I work as a bridal consultant, and have sold gowns that are over $10,000. It really depends on the wedding. Some brides want silk with hand done embroidery--that's going to start you off at about $3000, and that would probably be a discontinued sample. Any dress less than that price is probably going to be polyester. Is there anything wrong with that, absolutely not, unless you have an allergy to poly. I had one bride who didn't tell me, I put a dress on her, she immediately started breaking out in hives. Someone pointed out that your wedding gown is roughly 10% of the overall wedding budget, and that's a pretty decent rule to follow. If she's getting this dress custom made by a dressmaker/seamstress/designer then I'd say $7800 is probably pretty decent, depending on what she's having done, and where she lives.

For everyone who's saying that's crazy, just because YOU wouldn't spend that much $$ on a wedding dress doesn't mean there aren't plenty of people out there who don't think anything about it. A wedding dress is a (hopefully) once in a lifetime purchase. A bride has the right to spend whatever she wants to, without having to justify her decision to anyone, assuming she has the money to spend in the first place.

Good, affordable wedding dress shops in Seattle?

Looking for a place with low prices (my budget is 800) but nice gowns. I am going to look at Davids Bridal but I would like a few more places to look around at in the Seattle/Tacoma area. Any suggestions?

Recently I helped someone select dresses for her wedding. While paging through the racks of brides maid dresses I saw some really gorgeous styles that I absolutely loved. Months later, I went back to the bridal shop and looked at those dresses again because I needed a dress for a formal affair. I ordered a beautiful dress, in black, for myself and it was the perfect dress for this fancy cocktail party I attended.

If you take a good look at the brides maid dresses you will see some really nice styles there. And, these dresses can be ordered in white. Clear your mind and look at each dress objectively and you may just find something you love, well within your budget. Really, these brides maid dresses come in every imaginable style and some even have small trains. Also, any qualified seamstress can add some bling to a dress for the fraction of the cost of a wedding gown. If you want a longer train, you can have one added in a sheer fabric, a tulle fabric or lace draped beautifully from the waist. Consider the possibilities.

Unconventional, yes. Doable, yes. Worth consideration, yes. What do you have to lose? Nothing.
