Ok so I've been wedding dress shopping a couple of times at several stores many of which ONLY sell strapless dresses. I HATE strapless dresses. I don't know why anybody would want to show off their armpits at their wedding. And I'm a swimmer so it does nothing to feminize my broad shoulders. So I want to get a custom made dress. Does anyone know where I could find a designer to work with In the greater atlanta area?
Answer
I've seen a LOT of dresses that aren't strapless. Check out David's Bridal or Alfred Angelo. Cap sleeves are really popular on dresses too, and you could easily have them added to a dress you like for not much money.
I'm guessing you also don't like thin sleeves or spaghetti straps, because those are popular too.
You can also add something like a lacy top to a dress you like. Something like this:

Here are some other non-strapless dresses I found:

If I get a strapless wedding gown, can I have some kind of sleeve added?

There's no way I'm wearing strapless or spaghetti straps, but since that style is so popular, I was wondering whether I could get a dress of that type and have some kind of sleeve sewn on? Anyone have any experience with this?
I realize strapless is very nice, but I am not interested in the look for myself, so I need something with sleeves. I thought if this was possible, I'd have alot more dress choices available.
Answer
Absolutely, you can do everything from simply adding spaghetti straps, to cap sleeves, to even a 3/4 sleeve. You can do sheer fabric, lace, or even a solid satin to match your gown. Actually, adding sleeves of a basic type is a fairly simple procedure on a strapless dress. Find a good dressmaker who can help you with this.
