What is the name for this style wedding gown?

Yahoo Fan

I know it is strapless, but what is the name for this type of style, where it shapes to the mid-thigh, and flares out?

Mermaid style shapes all the way to the bottom of the knees, this style shapes to about mid-thigh, then flares out, making it easy to walk, and very shaping. Im more voluptuous so I prefer this style to bring out my figure. The A-line dress flares out from the waist down, so it doesn't shape as much as this one, right?

So what do you call this style, and do you like it?

Answer
That style dress is called a trumpet silhouette. They are perfect for brides who have hour-glass body type and tall brides. They aren't recommended for petite brides, those with pear-shaped body or plus-sized. A-line dresses are supposed to be generally flattering on most body types - it complements natural curves of the upper body. Volumptous sounds like you probably are hour class figurish - so trumpet OR mermaid dresses are made for you! I really like that style. Congrats on your engagement and good luck with the wedding planning!

Non-Floofy Wedding Dresses?

I've already tried to post this question... but for some reason answers just isn't making it visible.

As the reality that I'm engaged hits me, I'm getting more and more into the whole idea of planning a wedding.

I've started considering THE DRESS.
I don't want the typical princess gown with layers and layers of gauzey fabric.... and I don't want the pick up skirt that makes a bride look like a walking frosted cupcake. While I love the way trumpet and mermaid (and other form fitting gowns) fit other women, I'm large and, well, kinda lumpy in all the wrong places. Basically, no amount of binding undergarments will ever make my silhouette worthy of the mermaid, and I'm okay with that.

I'm just looking for ideas that are unique and not cookie-cutter that also lack that princess/tiara thing.
Even if you have something in mind that isn't offered in a plus-size, please suggest it. Chances are I can find something similar through another designer.

One thing I kind of like is this dress from Allure Bridals: http://www.allurebridals.com/index.php?id=3&product_id=656 I think it's very feminine but not over-the-top floofy... and I like the pleated skirt.

Any other ideas?
If it helps, I have a pretty weird body type. I'm a large woman but I don't have the large chest of one. I'm fairly well proportioned for my size but would definitely like to hide the tummy.

I also like things that are either a) more modern or b) have something that stands out. (the pleats in the skirt of the link I posted, for example)

I felt the same way about dresses when I was looking, and I liked a lot of Allure Bridals designs, as well. I found I gravitated toward most designer's "destination" gowns, even though we weren't getting married on a beach.

However, I ended up picking a dress that was fancier than I *thought* I wanted, because when I gave it a chance (I dismissed it at first), it turned out to be the right dress. A LOT of people I know have had a similar experience, trust me!

If you want to hide your tummy, there are plenty of empire waist designs out there. Examples:

Maggie Sottero is more or less in the same price range as Allure, btw. See how a lot of those dresses have rouching or detail on top? That will make you look more busty and balanced out. Some more examples:

I would just advise that you try things on anyway, even if they're different from what you wanted or you think it won't look on you. Some dresses will look RIDICULOUS, no matter how flawed or perfect your figure is! But you'll be surprised at what does work, too!
