Wedding Color Advice?

cjacque

I am getting married in August of 2011. Our wedding ceremony and reception are both in a large hotel, but in two different rooms. The ceremony has deep red/maroon carpeting and chairs, and the reception room is similar but with some navy involved. Any ideas of color combinations we can use? I originally wanted summery hues like yellow, tangerine, and pink, but don't want it to clash... ideas?

Answer
Do you really think your guests will be looking at your wedding party and thinking to themselves "wow, this is a nice wedding, but the bridesmaids' dresses do not match the floor."

Do you think people will be
a) looking at the walls;
b) looking at the floors; or
c) looking at the faces of the people in front of them

And in a room filled with people, tables, flowers, activity, dancing, drinking...do you really think people are going to really notice the backs of chair covers, the carpeting, or the wallpaper in relationship to your bridesmaids' dresses....especially if the decor sn't so butt ugly and tacky that if screams for attention.

I am almost done planning my wedding. Have picked out the dress and everything.

The problem is I was not around for my fiance's sisters wedding and today when I was looking at her wedding pic's I noticed she had the same color's! White, Ice blue with Silver.

Should I change my colors or just go with what I want? We are having a Winter Wonderland and the colors are perfect!

My fiance say to put a darker blue in it. Any Ideas? Please help

Answer
I too disagree with the bridezilla "It's my wedding I'll do what I want." But in this case, I don't think you are being a bridezilla by accidental choosing the same colors, but not changing them.

The colors you have chosen are very very common for a winter wedding. Stick with it. If your sister in law was that concerned about being unique, she would have chosen more unique colors. Also, her wedding has obviously been well in the past - and you never mentioned that SHE has a problem with it. So don't over think it.

That would be like me being mad if my brother marries in the springtime like I did, and uses floral-toned colors. Duh. Spring wedding - what do I expect??

Just make sure your wedding is your own, perhaps add a darker shade of blue to the mix like your fiance suggested. Use more crystals than silver when possible. Go with your own flair!

She may even have some things left over she's willing to share.

Unless she had the same bridesmaids dresses, held it at the same reception hall, used all the same decorations as you, your wedding - color aside - will be vastly different.

No worries & good luck.

PS - And although the dress is not my personal taste - I appreciate it's beauty and think you will look lovely in it, especially given your time of year and colors. I LOVE that it has sleeves for a winter wedding - it's perfect for it!!
