Did anyone wear their Mother's Wedding Gown?

I'm getting married in October, and I'd like to wear my Mother's wedding gown. I love the sentimentality of it, but it is a bit old fashioned for my taste. I want to modernize it, but I'm afraid that might take some of the sentiment out of it. Did anyone wear their mother's wedding gown as is, or did you take it to a seamstress to modernize? I'm from the North Georgia area, so any help would be appreciated as to where to go, because Atlanta is nearly an hour and a half for me to find someone. Can you tell me your stories of wearing your mother's gown? Thanks! :)

Talk to you mom about this and see what she thinks - if she'd be willing to have her gown altered, etc. I think modernizing it won't take the sentiment out of it - it's wonderful that you want to wear it. Do some research and make some phone calls (find a wedding dress seamstress etc.) and meet with them to go over the possibilities. Have fun

Simple Wedding Dress ?

I live in Georgia and I am geting married in April. I am having an simple out door wedding and a somewhat casual receprion. I am looking for a wedding dress that does not weigh 50 lbs (lol) and is not floor length. You would not believe how hard this is to find. I have been shown long dresses that can be altered to shorter but I will pay almost twice as much for the dress. Please help.
