I'm not talking about something cheap and standard, but a nice and pretty dress that doesn't cost a million dollars. What is the average price of a nice wedding dress?

Answer
Depends on your definition of "nice."

Some brides are happy with gowns from Target or JC Penney. Some brides find gowns at the David's $99 sale. Still others borrow a gown from a relative or friend.

Prices can go from zero (the borrowed gowns) on up to designer gowns costing thousands.

So it all depends on your definition of "nice."

I found this site interesting.

Put in your zip code. It will give you the average cost of weddings in your area.

What works best with a black and white wedding?

April

My bridesmaids are going to wear black chiffon gowns and carry white roses. As for me, I am wearing of course the traditional white dress and will carry red roses. Any ideas on how we should decorate the reception hall? Should we go with red roses or white to decorate? Any creative ideas on decorating?

Answer
You picked some really elegant colors. With your color choices you could do sort of a Bride & Groom theme. It would play up your black and white with your red accent color. Here are a few ideas.

Bride & Groom
Wedding Theme

FAVORS

Bride and Groom favor boxes - could use a red chiffon ribbon for accents. http://www.invitationsbydawn.com/ProductCluster.cfm?prev=1&TempPrev=0&blnPreviewRequestSubmitted=0&recordsperpage=9&CompletedOrder=0&sBasketID=0&ClusterItem=Clust5341&alogo=1&menu=none&morethanonepage=YES&HostDomain=0&FirstTimeThrough=1&option=ProductCluster.cfm&format=PG0250&CFID=13346111&CFTOKEN=50283539

Invite guests to ring the bells when they have been seated to prompt you to share a
kiss. http://www.myjeanm.com/engine.cfm?iCatID=11290

CAKE

Add a tiara and veiling to your classic white tiered cake. And why
not have a grooms cake that looks like the groom.

DECOR

Chair covers in white with a crisp black sash. Why not have Mr. & Mrs. put on the Bride and
Groom chairs. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/602-4295007-0453432?asin=B000O1A9N8&AFID=Gifts.com&LNM=B000O1A9N8|Mr._and_Mrs._Chair_Sashes&ref=tgt_adv_XPND0030

Here's a twist, instead of flowers as table centerpieces try individual table cakes each decorated
with different Bride and Groom cake toppers.

Think that classic inexpensive wedding - paper wedding bells, etc. Just play up those traditional icons of a wedding, wedding bells, rice, bride and groom cake toppers, veils, tiaras, tuxedos, roses etc. If done right it can look classic and really elegant. Play up your black and white and use the red (as in your bouquet) as an accent color. Hope you can gather the vision of ideas.

Good Luck and Congratulations.
