wedding gowns 500 image

I am thinking of buying a size 4 cymbeline wedding gown. My real size is about a 2. Is it safe to alter? Would it even work without looking weird? How much does alterations on wedding gowns usually cost?
Answer
Almost all wedding gowns need altering, for that custom fit. So it will of course be safe to alter it, if you have experience altering wedding gowns. A wedding gown is a lot different from a regular dress, so only use a professional/experienced seamstress. Depending on what you need done it could cost anywhere from $50 to $500. But if you just need it taken in a bit and the en done it will probably be less than $200.
Have you tried the dress on? Usually wedding gowns fit a size bigger anyway, because of the way they are made and the many layers of fabric involved. So a size 4 dress will fit like a regular size 2 anyway. (I'm a size 2 and all the wedding gowns that I tried on were a size 4 and fit fairly well).
Good Luck!

Any guesses as to about how much to expect to pay to have my wedding gown altered?

Being on a tight budget, a friend gave me her old wedding dress. Its what i dreamed I'd get married in. Its the size 4 i need but when she got married she was nursing with a DD bra size...i'm only size A. It has beading across the bust and a gather on the side. I'm kinda afraid to take it to a taylor to ask with no idea of the cost. Anyone know any price range i could expect?
Answer
You do NOT want to take this gown to a tailor, you want to take this gown to someone who specializes in wedding or prom or pageant gown alterations (check the local telephone book or newspaper or local services ads on the internet).
Gown alterations can range in price from $50 to $500 . . pricing is based on how much ornamentation is on the gown, and how many hours of sewing are required.
